  1. @meghanl Maybe this is what your NUT meant ... this is what I was given from my NUT at Mayo. Hopefully this will help satiate you while letting your insides heal properly.

    When do I stop losing?

We were told in our after care meetings that our bodies know when to stop losing and that it's not up to us, so long as we are compliant. I guess only time will tell as I'm already down 81 lbs. and not even 6 months post-op.

    I HATE protein shakes

@@dannieeliza My latest fave ... Protein2o Water (like H2o)! These taste great! You can go to their website drinkprotein2o.com and put your zip code in to find a store near you. Even though your doctor wants you to get your Protein only from food, if you're going to try and get the maximum amount of protein in to lose weight and not your hair, you may have to still supplement with at least 1 Protein Drink per day. I'm almost 6 months post-op and I still use Premier vanilla protein ready made shakes as my coffee creamer and drink one of these to get in my 110-120 grams per day and keep my calories around 850.
  6. I have it in my master bath so no explanation needed - Yay!
  7. @@twinmomC I guess you could try the lil footstool but the squatty potty has your feet positioned at each side with your knees above, putting you in the squatting position.

Magic Crust Quiche! My FAVE Recipe!

@@LadyReyven You're welcome and let me know if you like it
  9. @@gpmed Here's my FAVORITE recipe Magic Crust Quiche - Ham Ingredients 2 cups 1% Lowfat Milk 1/2 cup All-purpose flour 5 large eggs 1/2 cup 2% Reduced Fat Pepper Jack cheese shredded 1/2 cup 2% Reduced Fat Swiss Cheese shredded 1/2 cup 2% Reduced Fat Sharp Cheddar Cheese shredded 7 oz Ham diced small 1/4 cup Cooked red bell pepper diced small 1/4 cup Cooked Vidalia or sweet onion diced small Preheat oven to 350˚. In a blender or NutriBullet, mix eggs, milk and flour until blended, season with salt, pepper, garlic powder or whatever you’d like. In a bowl combine all cheeses, cooked meat and cooked veggies. Now add blended mixture and stir to combine. Pour into an 8”x8” or 9”x9” square glass dish. Bake for 50-55 minutes. Let stand 5-10 before serving. You can add whatever cheeses, veggies or meats suit your taste. I steer clear of chicken as it seems to dry to me. The small amount of flour firms up the sides and bottom making the “magic crust” while saving tons of calories. The Nutrition Facts are based on recipe above. FYI - the heavier meats, like ground beef, tend to fall to the bottom. 11. @@gpmed I've posted this before, but maybe this might help you. I had my surgery at Mayo and these are the guidelines we were given for the different phases. I was able to get 60 grams of Protein beginning day 3 post-op. I'm almost 6 months out and average 110-120 grams at 800-850 calories per day. This includes 1 Premier Protein ready to drink shake per day. I use it in my decafe coffee and chai tea to make them into lattes. I don't know if you like quiche, but I have a great recipe for "Magic Crust Quiche" when you start your soft food stage. Once I began soft foods at day 15, I followed the 30/30 rule. I still make this quiche as it is a staple in my diet. I try to eat moist meats/foods to avoid any digestion problems. So far so good

    Motion Sickness Question

@@DangerMouse007 This was a lifesaver for me as I've always been a Dramamine girl myself. It's called DiVertigo. My surgeon recommends it for those with nausea or motion sickness as it's not just for those with Vertigo. Here's what their website says: Use DiVertigo for relief of vertigo, nausea, dizziness, and other symptoms. Starts working FAST – DiVertigo can be taken any time to prevent problems associated with sudden onset of vertigo symptoms. However, if you start to feel an attack, you can apply right away. Most people can start feeling a difference in 2-5 minutes. Effective even after symptoms have occurred – DiVertigo begins to work within a few minutes after application. Most medications for the same purpose are effective only after 30-60 minutes. No drowsiness or other side effects – The most common side effect for typical vertigo medications is drowsiness. DiVertigo is an All Natural solution to vertigo and its related symptoms. There are zero side effects. You can stay wide awake while using it and accomplish your daily routine without fear of undue sleepiness. Doctor recommended – Doctors recommend DiVertigo, because it doesn’t have side effects, is safe for ongoing use, and works even after symptoms have begun. Not a pill – When your stomach is feeling irritated, the last thing you want to do is swallow something. DiVertigo is a topical application is simply applied behind the ears and is safe for ongoing use. Because it is an all natural solution and not a pill, DiVertigo also does not require Water as a supplement. You can go to their website and print a $2 off coupon
  15. @@twinmomC With our high Protein - low Fiber way of eating now, you're going to have to use alternative methods if you want to be "pain & poo-free"! I also struggled in the beginning because I didn't want to become "laxative" dependent. Trust me, it wont be forever but the pain and strain can be. You know this first hand. Here's what I've been doing since week 3 and at almost 6 months post-op, I'm regular and pain-free EVERY single day! I take a half of a cap full of Clearlax (Walmart generic for Miralax) in my morning decafe coffee. Keep in mind, the more fiber you take in the more Water you have to drink to move it out. I also have a Squatty Potty. One of the BEST things I ever bought, so much so that I even took it with me on my 2 week vacation to the Florida Keys! That's how amazing it works. Bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond but you can order them online as well. This may not work for everyone but it has worked for me. This is actually the first time in my life I've been regular and it feels wonderful

    What do you drink?

Premier vanilla Protein shake in my decafe coffee as "creamer" or any flavor when I'm on-the-go Protein2.0 Water - berry & Grape Splash are my faves Water with sugar-free Kool-Aid Watermelon Water Enhancer, occasionally as I prefer my liquids to contain protein

    What comes after clear liquids?!?!

@@StephOnTheMove At Mayo, we were only on clear liquids for the first couple of days and then "Blenderized" pourable liquids until day 14. Check out the pics. One of my favorite creations was taking 2 Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurts, adding 4 oz. of Premier vanilla Protein shake and blasting it in my Nutribullet to make lil smoothies. It made 3 - 1/2 cup servings at 12g of protein each. Instead of drinking them, which I could have, I'd dip my lil baby spoon in it and lick it off. Made me feel like I was eating something instead of always drinking - LOL! Oh the mind games we play

    Post-op Ketosis

@@TerraCorrupt I've never used the ketone sticks post-surgery and I was diabetic for 10+ years! Everyone is spot-on, focus on meeting your Protein and Water goals. I had no problem getting in 60 grams by my 3rd day post-op. A great way to meet both of those goals at one time is adding Protein2-0 water to your regime. You get 15g of protein in 16 oz. of water - way cool!!! Sometimes I like to kick them up a notch by adding flavored liquid Stevia. I don't care for protein powders so Premier Protein ready-to-drink shakes are my favorite but these waters are a really good alternative when you need something different. You can go to their website and put in your zip code to find out where they sell them in your area. You can order them on Amazon but I found them on sale locally for only $1.49 each. Best of luck to you on this amazing journey
  19. I agree with what everyone has said. Here's a great Protein Water I recently found and tried. It's called Protein2-0, like H2-0. It has "HydroLean which is a proprietary protein blend that has been clinically formulated to help rebuild lean muscle and strength. The protein molecules have been simplified to improve digestion and minimize waste. This process allows for faster absorption by the body when compared to other proteins" according to their website. I love it because it tastes great. Helps me get my water in and keeps me hydrated. When I need a lil extra flavor, I add a few drops of flavored liquid Stevia. Hope things improve for you soon. Please keep us posted!

    Pumpkin pie

@@toasty I don't think you're a killjoy at all! Here's my own pumpkin pie recipe and it is oh so tasty, especially for only 77 calories and 9g of protein!!! Crustless Protein Pumpkin Pie 1 - 15 oz can pumpkin (not pie filling) ½ cup egg whites 1½ cups Premier Protein vanilla shake ¾ cup Splenda ½ tsp salt 2 Tbs pumpkin pie spice Preheat oven 400°. Beat all ingredients together until smooth and creamy. Pour in pie pan sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes, then turn down to 375° and bake for 45 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. You can also pour into 16 (sprayed with non-stick cooking spray) cupcake tins. I like using silicone inserts. It is best served cold and can even be frozen. Serving size is 3 minis or 1/6 slice of pie. Sometimes I'll top a slice with Greek yogurt (pic) but Nutrition info is for pie only. Nutrition Facts Servings: 6 Calories 77 Fat 1g Carbs 10g Sugars 6g Fiber 4g Protein 9g
  21. @@CHELLB33 I was on Optifast for my 2 week pre-op too! We were given a choice at Mayo so I chose the ready-to-drink boxes of chocolate and French vanilla. I also got 1 box of the vanilla powdered Protein packets. I'm just not a fan of powdered protein, still not today as my preference is Premier Protein ready-to-drink vanilla and chocolate. Don't hate me but ... I loved it! You have to go into the next 2 weeks thinking about how amazing you're going to feel once all of the toxic foods you once indulged in are out of your beautiful body. You have to make it the most FUN possible. Here's what I did. I bought a Nutribullet (well worth the investment as I still use it several times per week), a couple boxes of Tazo tea, coffee and a variety of SweetLeaf Liquid Stevia flavors. Check out my pics ... I added the chocolate shake to hot coffee with a few drops of chocolate Stevia and it made a decadent hot chocolate. You can do the same thing with the teas, just add cinnamon Stevia, etc. as you'll get tired of always having "cold" drinks. I added lots of ice to the French vanilla with the pumpkin spice Stevia and blended it into my version of a Starbuck's Frappuccino - super delish! Volume is key in keeping you with that "full" feeling. I added cold coffee, cold French vanilla, English toffee Stevia and ice cubes for an iced latte. I also added vanilla creme Stevia to the powdered vanilla and ice but only blended it for a short time. It made a tasty mock ice cream - Yay - something to eat with a spoon instead of drink. Make it fun by pouring your concoctions in pretty glasses and by all means use your straws while you can - LOL! I lost 15 lbs. on my 2 week pre-op and my surgeon was very happy. You'll get out of this what you put into it so go BIG!!! You'll be so glad you did

    Gastric bypass and acid reflux

@ I went in saying sleeve, sleeve, sleeve! Then I was asked why? I didn't have an answer - LOL! Since I had mild GERD and had been diabetic for 10+ years I was told to read the research and think about it. RNY has been around for 50+ years while sleeve only about 10. I had surgery at Mayo where they perform both. What they don't perform anymore is the band as they found it didn't "work". Several of the ladies were having them removed and having RNY. I chose RNY as it was my best chance at getting off my diabetes meds and pantoprazole. It worked 100% and as of the day after my surgery, no more meds - YAY! Best of luck on making the best decision for yourself

    Hair Loss

I have very thin fine hair to begin with so I started taking Natrol fast dissolve Biotin before my surgery. I bought the 250 count from Sam's Club for only $11.99. You can buy it at Walgreens and other stores in smaller quantities. It's great for hair and nails. I take one every morning. My Bariatric team at Mayo recommended Biotin. Of course you should check with yours first.
