  1. I had my consultation with a surgeon close to home and will be having a tummy tuck and breast lift April 20. I did look at doing it out of country Mexico, Dominican, Miami, but ended up choosing a surgeon close to home in Toronto. I will be exactly 7 months post op from Gastric Sleeve and 15 lbs away from my goal weight. The doctor will see me one week before surgery for a final assessment but felt that my goal weight may be under where I should be. She does a no-drain tummy tuck which did help me make the decision to do it close to home. I did my Sleeve in Mexico but because the recovery may be harder I wanted the follow up care. Thanks for letting me share. Anyone else do it within the first year of being sleeved

    How to tell the kids

I have a 15 & 17 year old and did not tell them, I pretty much haven't told anyone except for my husband. I went to Mexico and they just figured I was away for business and that I am on a diet.
  3. Actually the no drain technique decreases the chance of fluid build up and faster recovery. This method removes excess skin and fat by liposuction from the abdomen and then tightens the muscle of the abdominal wall and the skin of the abdomen. Muscle is tightened from the breast bone to the pubic bone and extra skin and fat are removed. The remaining skin is sewn together, closing the space and leaving no room for fluid to accumulate. Progressive tension sutures hold the tissue together controlling abdominal movement during the healing process. How long was the recovery for you. Any complications

    Upcoming Surgery

I was up walking within a hour of waking up from surgery. By day 3 I was out shopping and by day 5 I was flying home. I would say there was really no down time. Just more sleeping in the first 2 days. I do think you need to push your self and when you do you recover faster. Good luck
  5. I only told my husband and one friend. Not even the rest of my family including my parents and kids don't know. I have heard the rumours that some people think I did something "crazy" like gastric bypass. I just feel it is nobody's business except for my own. I don't regret the decision at all not to share it with others.
  6. I posted this in Plastic Surgery forum but thought I would post here as well for experiences. I had my sleeve done in September 2014. I have great progress and less than 20lbs away from my goal weight. Has anyone done plastics before a year post op. I have chatted with 3 doctors and none of them have concerns. Anyone with experience of doing it 9 months post op.

  8. I am 4.5 months post op with no complications. I have lost 62lbs since the start of my journey and feel and look great. I eat well very minimal carbs, no sugar, and usually not over 800 calories. Sometimes I question if my stomach has stretched because I don't experience many of the tummy feelings I had in the first few months. I question maybe I am just making better choices and that's why or has my tummy stretched. Well tonight I went out to a pub for a networking event my friend who is a personal trainer suggested having a cheat meal once a week. I don't use that card often but decided tonight to go for it. We ended up having Poutine with chicken. It was delicious and I didn't eat much, less than 3 oz. Well it didn't take long for my tummy to say it was unacceptable less then 20 min later I needed to visit the porcelain throne and vomit and return the delicious poutine to where it belonged in the toilet. Once I threw up,I felt great. Very happy to know that my tummy has my back when I don't make the best decision. Just thought I would share any body else have a similar experience. Thank you Sleeve you were the best decision I made in 2014.

    Love my tummy

Thanks for your feedback I don't even think I overrate I just think it was just not a good food choice, and my tummy decided that it wasn't interested in consuming it.
  10. I would think looking on the BMI chart and using your height find out what your ideal weight should be. How tall are you

    Got sleeved today

They can give you stuff for the pain and nausea but sometimes you have to push them a bit. Then get up and walk every 2 hrs. I needed to remind nurses that the doctor said it was important to keep on top of pain and nausea. Hope you feel better soon

    Gagging through protein shake

I can only drink the premier Protein shakes. In the beginning they were even hard to get down but what I did pre surgery was gulp them down so I barely tasted them. Over time they have grown on me and I actually enjoy them.

    Premier Protein

I think they are great and the only ones I can stomach. They are actually on sale this week at Costco at least in Canada.

    Comparison: VSG to C section?

I would say c-sec was worse. In both cases the more you walk after the better it is.
  15. I just spent a week eating at restaurants for dinner and sometimes lunch while on holidays. As I was with my family I would let the 3 of them order and I would take some of the protein options and put on a small plate for me. My husband would always try to choose a option that I would enjoy mainly a fish option.

    Travel question

I am 3 months post op. We went away to Puerto Rico for the holidays. We were not at a all inclusive which would give you more options but for me everyone in my family ordered something and I would just take a small bit from the proteins that I wanted. I had a few carbs that I wouldn't normally have but I have stayed on track and did lots of exercise. The only thing I would suggest is to bring your own protein shakes. Otherwise enjoy your trip.

    Constipation

For me it's been my only issue since being sleeved. I have tried a variety of options but ultimately find that laxatives every 3-5 days works for me. Note to others don't take them the night before a flight.
  18. I am currently on vacation in Puerto Rico and have run out if my shakes. I know they sell them at costco and SAMs club but any where else you might suggest I find then. The shakes I have tried here are awful. The only ones I have liked are Premier that I get in canada
  19. Yikes that is a long way. Will suffer with some of the ones I found. I fly home Tuesday. Thanks for getting that info.
  20. Tried both of those neither one had them. Any others you could suggest

    Help needed please, and prayers

Don't take this the wrong way but I work with children who have had severe reflux , feeding tubes , etc . When the issue has been resolved many children have mental aversion to what caused them issues in the first place usually OT will step in and work with them to get past it. Just a thought. Hope you feel better soon remember baby steps

    WLS In Mexico

I also went alone as well. Which surgeon are you using.

    WLS In Mexico

I made that exact flight in September when I had my sleeve done. I flew in and arrived after regular pick up time so I stayed in San Diego right by the airport. That flight there was harder I felt because the guy beside me was eating a Tim Hortens sandwich and I was starving. It was also very crampy as I flew Air Canada. Next am I was picked up brought to clinic text done and had surgery by 3pm I think. I flew back on the 4th day post surgery and when checking in found out that I could upgrade for $150 to first class. I was already going to pay $40 for the extra room seats and $50 for my luggage, I did some shopping in Mexico. Because I was comfortable and could move around easily I only got up once to use bathroom so the flight home was great, but kinda funny that you get offered great food and you can't eat. Hardest part was getting bags off of carousel. Just get up and walk around and at least get your self some extra leg room. Good luck.

    So much pain.

I would say walk walk walk. The more you walk the better and faster you feel. Walk past the pain not easy but you can do it.
  25. I am 3 months post op and just did my 3 month boos work. All came back great except my doctor was concerned that one of levels was showing too much protein that was cause for concern for the kidney. I usually take in 75-97 grams of protein a day very little carb. She has asked me to stop taking one of the protein shakes (take 2 a day 60grams protein) and I will do a urine collection to see if that makes a difference. Has anyone had this problem as well.
