October Sleeved Indy got a reaction from BLERDgirl in FitnessPal Nutrition Goals
I've actually been able to customize the MyFitPal goals to fit what is needed. When you go to set the goals, you can hit the custom button, and enter exactly what you want. (On the computer/web based version....don't think I can do that on my phone app.)
If you set the calorie total you want, it then it lets you set a percentage for carbs, Protein and Fat, along with anything else you've added (sodium / Vitamins, etc.)
I used 950 calories, with 40% Protein, 20% carbs and 40% fat. That works out to 95g protein, 48g carbs and 42g fat as a daily "limit". I really only pay attention to the protein as a measure, to be sure I'm getting in all I need to. The carbs and fat calorie/ totals: I find I do not pay as much attention to them, but I'm always "under" at the end of the day anyway for those.

I usually just order a Water, then do not drink it...I find it easier than saying "Yes, I'm sure, nothing to drink. Yes, I'm sure" :-)
The 1st time I went out with my family to a restaurant, I ordered the "light plate", which was just a taco with some Guac on the side. The waiter took my order, then leaned close and said quietly, "Um...I wanted to make sure you knew, the Lite Plate is veeeery small...not much food at all." I was quite amused and just said, "Yep, that's OK". He looked very confused as he walked away. I didn't even eat the whole thing, and ended up boxing some of it at the end.

I've found that the powerade-zero drops are much less sweet and more "watered down tasting" than the Kool-Aid and Mio drops. I particularly like the orange.

October Sleeved Indy got a reaction from Thumper79 in Protein Questions?
@@CheleLynn45 1st Sleeve buddy! Haven't seen anyone else on 10/27 yet. Looks like you are rockin' the sleeve! Great job!
@@Thumper79 Have you tried just drinking milk? A few cups of lowfat or skim milk has quite a bit of Protein as well. That might be a way to get it in without having to use the shakes you don't like. My NUT also said that skim milk with some added powdered milk can really boost the Protein per cup...I haven't tried that yet myself, though.
I've actually started drinking lowfat buttermilk (something I remember liking as a kid, but never had as an adult because it just didn't sound all that "healthy" :-)) I know now that each cup has about 9 g of protein, 2 g of fat and the same carbs as regular 1% milk. A cup 1st thing in the morning, a few throughout the day, and it really helps me avoid the Protein drinks.

Too good to be true! Today is my one week surgeversary. I was 247 when beginning my two week pre op "torture", and I was down to 237 the morning of my surgery. Today, I am down to 229!!! I have had the easiest recovery and transition period that anyone can imagine. I had a large hiatal hernia repaired during my sleeve surgery, which added a bit to my post op soreness, but I was up walking two hours after I was out of recovery. I have been walking 3 miles a day since coming home, and haven't had to take any pain medicine since leaving the hospital. I have had no problem getting my daily Fluid or Protein in, I've developed a new taste for yogurt (ABHORED IT BEFORE). The only thing I've had even the slightest issue with is Jello. I love it, but I think its just too thick for me at this point. Two bites is about all I can handle before it triggers my full feeling. I have had zero cravings and no real hunger, let alone head hunger. food doesn't interest me in the slightest although I know I need to eat to live. Before surgery, I wasnervous that tv would trigger head hunger/cravings. Last night it seemed that every commercial was for food or the holidays. Believe it or not, my reaction was quite the opposite. I almost gagged over some things that USED to be favorites of mine. I also began thinking about serving sizes, and how in the world we get to the points in our lives that a SERVING isnt enough. It was a measurementthat was developed for a reason...its all we need to give our bodies fuel. Why and how did we begin thinking we had to clean up our plates that was loaded down with enough "servings" to feed 4 people?!?!? How gluttonous!! At this pount, it makes me physically sick to remember my eating habits...so sad that i never connected the dots before. I don't know what I expected after the procedure, but I certainly didn't assume it would be an easy journey...and it may not always be, but for the present its been a walk in the park. I am BEYOND blessed and I'm so grateful for this opportunity to get healthy and LIVE again. Good luck and prayers going up for each of you on this journey along side me.
