  1. I had three ccs put in a 10 cc band at surgery. I haven't felt hunger yet. I was banded on March 5, 2008.

I weigh and measure and keep track of my food. I am losing well enough and enjoy cooking and eating my meals.

I am uncomfortable if I eat too much.

    I eat between 1000 and 1200 calories a day.

  2. I try to get in about 1200 a day, but I usuallly drop to 1000. I've found myself lately losing much more quickly by getting in at least 1200.

Look up your BMR on the net. If you can reduce that by 500 daily you would loose a pound a week, or achieve a reduction of 3500 calories. Reduce it by a 1000 a day, with diet and exercise, and two pounds a week. It's pretty simple math.

  3. Why do you feel you are eating too much if you are losing weight? The point is to lose weight, not to eat the tiniest amount possible. Is there some magic amount you want to eat? I eat between 1.5 and 2 cups of food (mostly veggies) at a meal and I'm losing 2 pounds a week.

By the way the doctor has to tell you your medical information. There was a huge law suit over just this thing and the courts held that records are the patient's property. Just be more firm with him. Insist.

  4. I didnot get a lapband to do a weight watchers!! I didnt get cut up in surgery so I could do Weight Watchers. Then whats the use?

It would be sweet to say that all we had to do to lose weight is to get a band on. I think you need to rethink your food choices and to learn to eat in a more healthy way. If you have children, now is the time to set a great example as far as food goes.

  5. Bandguy, go back and see your doctor, you will not be the first of his patients to gain weight. A fill might help you get back on track.

To get back to the thread topic. Yes it was worth it, but somehow I missed the drama queen phase so many seem to go through. I didn't have much pain at all. Day three I was exercising. You'll do fine, but you must be committed to the process.

  6. Debbygburg, I hope you are feeling better soon.

Have you considered some counseling to help deal with any food issues you might have. I think this might help whether you keep your band or not.

    Best of luck to you.

I completely agree with MsJai. You must do what is right for you.

  7. I started on it while trying to get pregnant...I was successful - twice! it also helped take a few pounds off. Initially the side effects sucked, but they do subside, you have to give it time. It definitely made me ovulate. After 5 yrs on it, my doc took me off just prior to my lap-band, 3 weeks ago. I haven't been losing anything and wonder if it is b/c my body was used to the metformin and I think I should have stayed on it until I was skinnier and not still insulin resistant.

You have to be off metformin to have surgery, as far as I understand it.

  8. I was on Glucophage for about two years for PCOS. It did NOTHING for me (except make me sick to my stomach everyday). I also had a problem with my bloodsugar dropping quickly while I was on it. I came of it cause I hated it and haven't had that happen since.

Well yeah. Metformin is used most commonly for diabetics to help control their blood glucose levels. lol

  9. I think you are right, Jachut. There seem to be many ways to use the band "as a tool".

I don't mind being on a diet, I never have. I like the control and the decision making on a daily basis. Others like to use it for Portion Control. Whatever works for you, is my motto.

To answer the op. I can eat chips, but I never do cause I would eat the whole bag. I can't eat Pasta and rice. cheese, melted or otherwise is fine. I love garlic bread but I have to nibble at it, otherwise it sticks.

I don't go to fast food restaurants.

  10. Lately, I've been switching over to the powdered Peanut Butter a fellow Shamrock mentioned. For me, so far, the jury is still out - the powdered stuff has about 75% less fat in it, but I'm not finding the flavour I liked in the Peanut Butter. Trader Joe's has a reduced fat peanut butter, so maybe I'll give that a shot (even if "reduced fat peanut butter" seems a bit of a Frankenstein product).

We ended up quite liking the PB2 powder in chicken satay and all kinds of peanut sauces and in chocolate sugar free pudding.
