    Please help a newbie.

I had only been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a couple of months when I had the band. I quit taking the junuvia (sp.) cause I was keeping under 140 with diet and exercise. However I quit losing and was going up and down the same five pounds, also my BG started getting wacky high. I started taking the meds again and have lost five pounds in a few days. Does that make any sense?

    Does everyone take vitamins?

I take centrum chewable vitamins. I cannot eat enough to get a balanced diet with the band (all the servings of fruits and vegetables, etc.).

    1500 calories pre surgery

I have to try to stick to 1200 maximum, but really I seldom make it up to 1200 calories. I think the difference is that I look at food and think about food in a totally different way now. It's just something I have to do. I enjoy it, but I don't live for it. I don't think the calories are different, it's the ease with which we can stick to a limit that is the difference.

    My Daily Plate

I use sparkpeople.com and I love it. I love the feature on sparkrecipes.com that allows you to enter a recipe and then gives you the nutritional info. Also it lets you enter "food groups" and since I have the same breakfast most days, it saves typing.

    Question on juices?

It was recommended to me to dilute fruit juice by half at first to avoid getting an upset stomach.

    Anyone have the Realize band?

Realize band vs. Lap band - Lap Band Talk Forum - The largest forum for Lap Band Surgery Discussion and Lap Band Surgery Support Click the above to go to another thread that was on this site about this topic. You can always search on a topic before you post just in case . . . I don't think there is much difference between one band and another. I think they both work.
  7. I'm sorry this is a struggle for you. Your body has been through a lot, with the surgery and the Fluid diet and all. I think the not eating is also a sort of sensory derprivation. Do you have any sugar free popsicles you could chew on? Hang in there, just remember we all went through it and that this is a short period of your life (even though it doesn't feel it). You will do fine.

Why are people afraid of atheism?

I don't have a whole lot to add to this conversation, except to say, we took a law suit to the US Supreme Court over prayer at graduation. The Supreme Court delayed until my child graduated and then declared the case moot. I will say this: I learned more about hate from Christians than from any other group.

    The new exercise equipment....

We just got a trikke and are looking forward to using it. I can't wait. Just bumping this thread up a notch.

    Counting calories?

I do track my calories as much as possible. Sometimes, it's not possible and I just live with it. It's the only way I really know whether or not I should be losing. I also weigh my food. Everyone is different, though.

    Slime/PB question (kinda gross)

I had an issue with deviled eggs. I love deviled eggs, but I won't be having them again in the forseeable furture. PB.

    Diets Questions/Concerns

Liquids only don't have to be sweet. You can have all sorts of broth and cream soups if you are past clear liquids. I had a lot of pumpkin and butternut squash soup and some really good tomato soup (not campbells). It is a very short period of time that will improve the rest of your life. Hang in there.
  14. My entire family would be grossed out if I lifted my shirt and offered to let them touch my port. lol
  15. Actually I never feel hunger. I'm about two months out. My pouch gets full easily, it's not stuck and it doesn't hurt unless I force myself to eat more.

    Already Testing...

I used to tell my children that being hungry is NOT an emergency. It's true, it's not. You are worth taking the time to do it right. Plan ahead. Keep on truckin'.

Scary Experience - Choked on pill

Ah, I'm talking only a pb. For me it's from drinking or eating too fast. Nothing stuck is involved. Might be a difference.

Scary Experience - Choked on pill

I've never choked with a pb. Maybe just me.

Wow just tried PB2 Peanut Butter

There are lots of different regional satay recipes. I just used my old standby, which is Thai, and mix up the pb2 and use in it. Huge huge savings in calories.

Wow just tried PB2 Peanut Butter

There was a thread earlier on PB2. I use it for satay sauce and put it in chocolate sugar free pudding.

    SLOW LOSERS...read this

You're right, losing is all good, when it comes to weight. :cool2:

    Sweet tooth

When I quit smoking about a year ago, I learned that sometimes you just have an unsatisfied craving. Recognize it for what it is (a seductive drug that will kill you in the end) and don't give it any more head space than you can help. They do go away.

    SLOW LOSERS...read this

When she said "prepare for the worst" I think she meant slow losing. I think people often have unreal expectations about the band. How fast they will lose, what foods they can eat, etc. I approached it with cautious optimism and was prepared to be a slow loser, reckoning that it was better than gaining, which is what I would have done.

    Time span

I didn't go to a seminar. I went to an interview and we talked about my research and what I had learned. We submitted to the insurance and i had surgery about a month later.
