  1. From what I can tell the pre-op liquid diet makes you go through detox getting all the sugar and junk out of your system. So basically we go through sugar/carbs withdrawal the first few days.

    I've been trying to cut out sweets, breads and pastries this past week. And coffee too is down to one cup every other day or two because boy coffee headaches can be awful. But like everyone says, by about the third to fifth day you're through the rough patch and then it's pretty good. I'm counting on that being true.

    I start next Monday and trying help myself now if I can to avoid too much awfulness.

  2. @@cab127 I'm sorry I thought you were on Jan 9th. I think I've lost 8lbs. Like you I've also enjoyed my Opti-fast. But I will be happy to move on to the next stage. It's hard cooking for my hubby and not eating any of it. But it's all going to be worth it I'm sure.

  3. @@Ivanova8 - Thanks! The reality is, I'm lucky that the province is going to cover the surgery at all, so I'm just thankful for that. I don't mind the wait, even though I'd do it tomorrow if I could!

    I am doing well. I am nervous about the surgery but looking foward to being post op. I am so use to Optifast. I think I might even say I like it now????


  4. @@cab127 I'm so happy being back at work went well for you. That's a big plus!

    I hope I can find myself not hungry after the 3rd shake. This is only day two for me so I guess I'm still going through the break in phase. Looking forward to day 3 or 4 where I heard it gets easier.

    I was mildly hungry all day yesterday. Nothing terrible but annoying. Hopefully today will be better. And you're right staying focused on the goal is important.

    Jello is not the same for sure. But my mouth was happy to chew on anything. I also have a low calorie chicken broth that I find very satisfying. And tea! Caffeine free herbal teas have been great once or twice a day. They help break up the monotony.

    Congrats on the 5 lbs! Now that's a real bonus!

    just wanted to check in and see howmthings are going? I had a hard day today bwcause I waited too long to drink my shakes and was trying to do all the things a buay mom does. I realize I have to slow down. Hope things are going well for u


  5. I started Optifast today! Woohoo! 2 weeks to surgery.

    So far my favorite one was for lunch. vanilla with tangerine/grapefruit crystal light. It tasted like a Creamsicle. Loved it!

    I've also had a bit of Jello with lunch and chicken broth for my afternoon snack.

    @@cab127 how are you doing today?

    I am doi g good. I went back to work today and was surprised how I wasn't really hungry. After my 3rd shake I have to remknd myseld to drink the last one.I don't have sugar cravings like I used to but I do miss chewing . Jello is not the same and gum gives me gas . I am focused on the prize and I am down five poundd!


  6. LowCarb is good, another place that is good is well.ca. It is in Guelph, fast service too. I used the sugar free flavoured syrups for my Optifast period. When I was on the Protein Shakes I really liked the Bariatric Foodie site. Never had a problem drinking them with her recipes. Started at 242 in February 2014 when I had surgery, and am now 100 pounds lighter. Can't believe I am back to me.

  7. @@cab127 Have your started your Opti-fast? I start on Monday. Have you tasted any good recipes for them?

    Hope you had a great day yesterday. I did start Optifast today. I got some sugar free flavoring from Lowcarb online with next day delivery. I had a french vanilla this morning and it was pretty tasty. I have a bit of the runs but having fluids as much as possible. Not really stomach hungry yet. Having shakes every four hours


  8. @@cab127 Yes, I guess I'd have. I'm still amazed by it. I'm taking it as a good sign that all is as it's meant to be.

    This list of recipes I got from Tracey 112205 on Obesity Help so I want to give her credit. There's a group there called OH Ontario recipes. I hope you like them.

    Queen of Opti and I loved it so here goes some ideas.

    Always use extra liquid and lots of ice, blended is best,not just shaken.

    vanilla with rootbeer extract.

    Vanilla with cinnamon mixed in.

    Vanilla made with cold coffee.

    Vanilla made with pineapple passionfruit crystal light, add some rum extract, coconut extract, banana extract, instant pina colada

    Vanilla made with Water and add a splash of SF caramel syrup

    Vanilla made with extra strong cold chai tea and extra cardammon.

    Vanilla with tangerine grapefruit crystal light

    Vanilla made with coffee and 1/2 tsp of pumpkie pie spice

    Vanilla with 1 tsp of instant coffee and some maple extract

    chocolate with some coconut extract.

    Chocolate with SF caramel Syrup.< /span>

    Chocolate with mint extract (very small amount and this one is super strong)

    Chocolate with orange extract

    Chocolate with cold coffee.

    Chocolate with banana extract.

    Chocolate made with strong mint tea

    Nice compromise on the 2.5 weeks on Opti! The less the better it seems like.

    Staying focused and practicing good habits now. Those are my two biggest tasks.

    Thanks formall the great ideas. I know the end goal is insight but am nervous about the Optifast part . Really hoping to get through it with no slip ups.


  9. @Ivanova8. The stars must be aligned for you that you got a cancellation. I haven't been to any of those support group meetings. I would be interested in any receipes you have for Optifast. When I orderd they only had vanilla. I got some sugar free flavorings online at the Low Carb store. I was originally told three weeks for optifast by St Mikes doctor and then two weeks by TWH. So we compromised and decided on 2.5. I start Dec 26th.

    Let's stay focus on our goal. ????


  10. So I contacted my nurse practitioner earlier this week and told her about the big wait with the other doctor. Long story short I met the new surgeon yesterday and my surgery is scheduled for January 12. I'm tickled pink, a lot nervous all of a sudden and I couldn't be happier! Thanks cab127 for your suggestions.

    I am so happy for you . You will be post op by the time I have my surfery on Jan 13. Good luck with the pre-op diet . Before you kniw our journey will have begum!
