  1. Any recommendations? Or advice on choosing a new doctor?

    How long is the wait?

If you're not already in the group, there is a private FB group for Dr Cantor, Dr McArthur and Dr. Salameh (the VHC surgeon 2% of people get) patients. Let me know if you'd like to join.
  3. I've seen posts where people are getting coverage for their supplements and Protein shakes through their insurance. Are you? What do you get covered? Who are you insured with? What was the process for getting coverage?

Starch questions on pre op diet

After surgery we are allowed very moderate amounts of starch, but, you're right, diet should focus on protein first, flol owed by frech veggies and fruits. The list the NUT gave you is more like limits, not 'have to'. If you'd raher have salad than rice...more power to you. NuT's point is if you're going t o have carbs...have the right carbs in moderation.
  5. As of right now, I'm to report at 6am for 8am surgery. Hope that doesn't change.
  6. I'm not your age, but we're hav I ng our surgeries on the same day!
  7. A lot of people use insureprotien.com to get their protein...but I want to know the magic behind the curtain.

    Anyone from Virginia?

My last NUT appt was 4/20. I think my approval was early May. My consult was 5/29 and I got my date early/mid June . You have to pick up all of your RX and have any followup scheduled (I needed sleep medicine) before they submit you to scheduling. Mine took longer bc dr cantor was in the hospital more and in the office to deal with paperwork less. Now that Dr McArthur is back, should be smoother.

    Anyone from Virginia?

My WLS mentor had Halmi and has been incredibly successful. If I wasn't kaiser, thats where I would go.

    How long is the wait?

I, too, went to nutrition in woodbridge! My last NUT appt was 4/20, my surgeon appt was 5/29. Surgery is 8/17.
  14. The kaiser program is a minimum 6 mo. It generally takes closer to a year, start to finish. I started my program in october, surgery in 2 weeks. Dr Cantor wait right now is about 2 months but that can change on a dime. I finished my NUT appts 4/20....didn't see Cantor until 5/29 and in mid-June, was offered the 8/17 surgery date.
  15. I can't believe I'm finally here. I know I'm not on the table yet...my surgeon has a long wait. But I've wrangled all of the insurance nonsense and have been approved and referred for surgery. I was shaking like a leaf in the surgeons office waiting for the other shoe to drop...for someone to tell me some reason that I couldnt have the surgery. But they didn't! I have to have an IVC filter placed (next week) and that has me totally freaked out. Small price to pay for an extra layer of safety...so i'm glad to be doing it. Just nervous about the procedure in general. I'm expecting to have my actual surgery date in the next 2 weeks. Surgery to be performed in early to mid august.
  16. My insurance requires a 6mo physician guided weight loss program as well as a percentage of weight loss needed. We meet monthly. At my last weigh in, I was only 2-3lbs away from goal. I have not weighed in since bc dont want to hedge my bets on an alternate scale, ya know what I mean? So, I need to basically do EVERYTHING I can this week to be the 'last ditch effort' to ensure a good weigh in next monday. I've been eating smarter, more active, etc. But I'm nervous. So this week, I need to make sure I leave NOTHING on the table. I don't want to regret ANYTHING. (If I miss the WL goal this month, I weigh in next month...but I don't want to wait!) Anyway, what would you recommend to someone in my position?
  17. I wish I hadn't read this. I'm planning GBS too, for many of the same reasons. But I think that I would be too scared to even TRY something that could make me sick....

    First dumping syndrome UGH!

steel cut oats, unsweetened apple sauce. regular cinnamon. Just how I make it for my kids!
  19. Bump....anyone have any advice?
  20. I'm having a hard time getting to the YMCA for classes because of icky weather and sick children...so I figured out how to stream You Tube videos onto my TV! I'd love to know what videos you enjoy especially videos that are size friendly. Thanks!
  21. This is really motivational! I went to a seminar today with my new surgeon and I'm just GIDDY. Tomorrow I call to schedule my Upper Endoscopy on my 'old' insurance and call UHC to make sure there isn't an employer specific exclusion on the policy. Then I am good to go.
  22. Unless I pay extra to keep what I have now. Please talk to me about your experience with UHC insurance and Gastric Bypass. My current insurance has a 6mo guided weight loss requirement and, according to my potential new surgeon, that will transfer over to them for UHC approval. But tell me your experiences? What do I need to know?
  23. I'm 6-8mo pre-op and i definitely want to invest in one to keep track of my ups and downs before and after surgery. Do you have one that you love? I'm *thisclose* to ordering the Polar Loop. It's at my price point. It is Water proof. It 'talks' to the type of technology I have. It comes in purple. What more could a girl want? And then I see that I COULD choose to have a bluetooth heart rate monitor. Do I need this? Do I want this? Will having a HR monitor on during my exercise make a big difference in the output received? If I don't get it now, will I wish I had it post-op? I can buy it later...but it is more expensive and I'm a little bit cheap...so yeah. What say you?
  24. I have Kaiser with a 6mo program to get to surgery. I'm A-ok with that and actually looking forward to the process. However, it will require either schedule changes or time off 2-3 times per month. In general, I'm not sharing about the surgery. Obviously, my husband knows, as do some close friends...definitely only about 5-7 people IRL. I don't want to lie to my employer....but I also don't think my medical procedure is any of their business. Thoughts?
