  1. Hard to believe it has almost been two years. Best decision of my life and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. sw 234 gw 140 cw 139

    Telling Your Children

My son was 12 when I had my surgery and I was upfront and honest with him about what I was doing and why. He said he was so happy that I wanted to get healthy and would support me no matter what. He asked about what they soukld actually do in the surgery and we googled the procedure and watched a 20 min video on the surgery on YouTube. This was actually great for us both because I got to see how it was done and it answered all his questions. I think the biggest impact for him was afterwards as I was great up to about day 5 and then I was hit with dizzy spells and lack of energy and needed help getting stuff done around the house. By day 15 when I started on food I started getting better with energy and feeing back to normal.
  3. Sleeved 9/30/2014 and best decision of my life and only wish I would have gotten over the social stigma of a "failed" dieter and done this sooner. At first I was not comfortable telling anyone that I had a surgery and as time went on and therapy for how I got to be morbidly obese I couldn't be prouder to say I was sleeved and I will answer anyone's questions. I am down 97 lbs, reached my personal goal and my surgeons goal and I couldn't be happier with that but I woul be lying if I didn't say I'd love to get to 100lbs lost. I have run 2 official 5k's, one 10k and my first half marathon will be in November. I have been a slow loser for the last two months but figured out calorie intake needed to increase and start losing again a little faster. This time last year I couldn't make it up the stairs without breathing heavy. This surgery was a life saver for me both mentally and physically!
  4. I will be at 3 mths 12/30 and haven't had too many issues. I started noticing minor hair loss last month. I asked my hair dresser about what could help with hair loss due to surgery and he recommended Nioxin. It seems to help but I also noticed for me that it lessens if I'm in the 70/80 g of Protein a day. So I've just been making sure I'm 80g or more of protein a day. My only issue with the smaller amounts was at holiday sit down dinners where I ate off a dessert plate and they all had huge plates. I still didn't finish what I had but my husband and son love it as they just finish it for me. It was strange sitting there watch people eat enormous amounts of food and having the realization that that was me three months ago. I'm so thankful for my sleeve!
  5. Hang in there! The head hunger is one of the toughest stages but once you get to the purée stage you will start to feel better. Take it slow and remember this is a life long journey that you will be so happy you are a part of.
  6. The other day I was shopping in a department store and looking at Christmas present options when I glanced to my side and caught my profile in a mirror, I quickly looked away as that is what I have programmed to do for so long and kept walking down the isle. Then I stopped and actually processed what I saw, turned around and went back to the mirror. First, I couldn't believe that I actually went back to the mirror and second I absorbed the fact that I was changing physically and I was becoming a new person (inside and out). I know my clothing sizes had been changing and I was losing inches along with weight but I don't think I really saw myself changing until that day. Anyone else have those moments where you go "Wow... Is that really me?"
  7. Thank you Shizwiz. It's right around he corner for you, make sure you share your Monet because I would love to hear about it. They all make me smile and its so fantastic to hear about everyone's feel good moment.
  8. Awesome!! Makes it for a Happy Thursday ????
  9. Hi Alana and Lateese - I also had similar weight loss and then stopped for about 2 1/2 wks. I was officially 6 wks out as of yesterday. I decided to start measuring inches per someone else's recommendation and even though the scale didn't move I lost 11". I just got back from a trip and the scale is finally moving again as of this Monday. I don't know if it was a change in routine or that I also had my "monthly" during my trip. Maybe your routine change of going back to work will kick start it for you both.

    9 month anniversary.

Congratulations! You look amazing!!! I'm one month out and in a stall and these are the kinds of posts that motivate me to stay positive and realize it's a journey but a race. So thank you for sharing
  12. I was sleeved on 9/30 and have lost 18 lbs. I'm finally feeling like I'm get into energy back and staring to hike with my dogs again. I'm only able to do about 1.5 miles but trying to increase my distance each time. I am slowly moving to soft foods and haven't had any issues other than dizziness and low energy from day 6-11 and the dreaded constipation. HW -234.4 SW- 225.9 CW - 207.4
  13. Sorry bmi ....not borderline
  14. If your borderline is above 35 you need only one comorbidity to qualify. You have two for sure that are on their list : diabetes and sleep apnea. Cigna makes you go through three months (90 full days- so ends up being four months) of nutrition supervised diet. Here is their bariatric policy (best document!) : https://cignaforhcp.cigna.com/public/content/pdf/coveragePolicies/medical/mm_0051_coveragepositioncriteria_bariatric_surgery.pdf
  15. Moving to pureed stage today and feeling more energized everyday

  16. I can have any of the "cream" soups and tomato made with milk. So far cream of chicken, potato and tomato. I do have to our the Soup through a sieve after heated to make sure no chunks are getting through. I usually have a 1/2 cup of the soup with 1/2 cup of skim milk and it takes me about two hours to finish.
  17. I would get the hot flashes when my stomach was turning. So good to hear that I am not alone . Reading most posts I hadn't seen anyone with the lack of energy.
  18. Lauren - thank your for posting this! There are many days I fell like I'm the only one lacking energy. I am so thankful for the procedure and for a pretty painless recovery. I guess that gave me a false assumption that Icould still go at the speed pre surgery. Reality set in around da 6-7 when my body said, sorry I think you need a break, and my mind was saying get out there get moving. Hopefully moving to the pureed stage on Monday will give me more energy and I can get back to walking my dogs.
  19. Lateese- I had the exact same issue but mine was at the 6th day. Day 10 today and I am starting to feel the energy come back. I started getting some soups in rather than just protein drinks and water and that seemed to help me. For me it was very frustrating going from don g great and walking tons to no energy and getting dizzy.

    2day liquid pre op diet

Each surgeon is different so don't worry. I only had a three day pre-op clear liquid diet
  21. I am a 9/30 sleever too and also seen the scale stay the same for the last few days. I'm more frustrated with the amount of energy I have, or the lack of it. I cannot wait til Tuesday to be able to eat something rather than drink it. @@jjinWA - I love your goals!!
  22. Congrats! That must be a fantastic feeling.
  23. unjury unflavored Protein powder is great. I add it to my Vitamin crystals, Soups and you can even add it to plain milk. I also like the pure protein ready made drinks (30g of protein in 11oz). The first couple of days post op the Isopure clear helped too. Each person is different so I tried to make sure i hd options when I came home. Hope that helps and good luck!
  24. You can do this! We are the same post op and it has been a struggle today for me with energy and just getting moving. Try strained cream of chicken with milk ...this seems to help fill be up when I feel really hungry. You got this!
