IWannaBeSvelte got a reaction from sschoch30 in October 2014
My week post op surgeon visit, I didn't lose a pound, I was frustrated, how could that be, a week on just liquids and didn't lose a pound! But my surgeon said it's like any other diet and every body is different. I was still disappointed. I was sleeved Oct 1 and since that first week I'm lost 12 pounds, my pre op 10 day diet I lost 19 pds.
So, it's true, we all lose at different speeds and our bodies are adjusting to what we are doing.
Just remember to concentrate on the good things.

I had my sleeve Oct 1st, everything went great. One word of caution, no matter how good you are feeling, don't overdo it. Yesterday I was feeling good and was taking care of some business stuff, nothing physical but I overdid it and got to the point of feeling very sick, laid down to keep from throwing up, husband called the ER. I was SO worried I was going to throw up and visions of my stomach coming un-stapled kept playing in my head.
Today everything is good, getting all my liquids in but SO not overdoing it.

Capi, I posted earlier that I went for my one week post-op and I did not lose a pound... NOT POUND after being on a liquid diet of 150-250 calories a day. I know used to eat that many calories in a bite! So, yeah, I've had that fear and it was almost like it came true this first week! But I have lost since then.
I think, instead of talking & planning about making a chance to my life, I REALLY made a change and I have the scars to prove it, so if this doesn't work, what now?
I think that's pretty normal, after all we've all done other things that have worked for our friends or friends of friends.
    Hang in there!

Ha, loved your comment, Sleeverino: " It almost has me a little worried that it has gone so well...as if the universe will need to correct itself or something!"
I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop, the BAD shoe.
I went for my one week post-op visit with the surgeon yesterday, I did not lose a pound, in a week!! After only eating liquids, 150-250 calories a day! I was really down. I did lose 19 pounds during the 10 day pre-op diet but was really ready to start seeing the pounds drop. Just goes to show, like with all other diets, everyone is different.
Reading thru the post seems like everyone is doing really good. I am surprised how I don't have much pain from having so much of a major organ removed, I sometimes just feel like I pulled something on the inside and it's like a cramp but nothing bad. The worse part has been the gas and that is getting a lot better.
Love to read about everyone's successes!

Hello. New to posting here but I found reading about others' experiences to be helpful pre-op so I thought I'd share. Had a sleeve done Monday 10/6. Came out of surgery in some discomfort--mostly from the anesthesia I think. There was some nausea and bloating pains that afternoon and evening. Fortunately the nausea never "manifested." Most of all I was extremely tired. Slept most of the day Monday and woke up Tuesday pretty much fine. Had some gas pains but the nausea was gone. I have no pain in the incision site or anything. Aside from what they gave me in the recovery room upon waking up I've had no pain medication nor any want for some. Not even Tylenol. They made me stick around the hospital Tuesday to see how much Water I could drink. I had no problem consuming an ounce every 15 minutes. No problem with pills either.
It's now Thursday and I feel perfectly fine. Went to the mall with my wife for about an hour and a half today. Watched some tv. I take a walk around the block every 3 or 4 hours. Mostly I'm just sipping away at Water and Protein supplements. It almost has me a little worried that it has gone so well...as if the universe will need to correct itself or something! But in any case I'm babying the sleeve per the doctor's orders and I'm hoping everything just keeps going the way it has been. Nothing really to report, no problems at all. Good luck to everyone.

@@IWannaBeSvelte and @BP'sMamaG - It was absolutely the pain meds. I feel so much better now that I have stopped them completely. I have Tylenol and Ibuprofen on standby if needed I am so happy to be past those first few days (currently on day 6)! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and there is a pair of size 7 jeans waiting there for me!

Capi, so sorry you are having a hard time but you have a VERY good point, everyone is different and even tho we KNOW that it's good to be reminded.
JenW, wow, you put your body thru a lot! but you got it all done.
I will remind myself to walk more and drink more. I think I'm getting in my liquids but like Capi, I keep thinking my stomach is so small.
Let's keep the long haul in mind and keep moving forward.

Hi All! Finally ready to give my update from my October 2nd procedure with Mexico Bariatric Center. The was a non bariatric related emergency at the hospital that pushed my sleeve to about 330 pm. I didn't meet Dr. Cabrera until mins before the surgery because he was assisting with the aforementioned emergency. My surgery was without complication and I woke up in recovery around 7pm. 《exact time is foggy》 i had nausea and standard pain expected with surgery. I got back to my private room and the nurses were attentive with meds and the like. My first night was rough. I mean really, really rough. I woke up every 30-45 mins with pain, nausea and the worst part, dry heaving. I have had 3 open abdomen surgeries (2 in the last 3 years) and had never felt this bad. I got up and walked around early in the night because i know that is key. Honestly, I could handle the pain and pressure from the CO2 but the dry heaves were kicking my ass. I felt awful all of day 1. It was frustrating because to me, the other ladies who were sleeved the same day seemed to manage much better. They we showered, in their own clothes and i was a zombie in a hospital gown.
DAY 2 - I started feeling human again. I was lucid enough to notice the nausea and dry heaves came every time the pain killers did, so I asked to stop the pain meds. They thought I was CRA - ZEE! It made a world of difference. I am now on the last leg of a 7 hour flight home and looking forward to my future as a super sexy, less fluffy woman.
Moral of the story - everyone's journey is different. Don't get scared or frustrated when your body reacts differently than others or as you expected. I really wish i had a story that was filled with no pain and skipping through the hospital corridors. However, everyday that goes by i remember less and less what surgery day and Day 1 were like. I am sure that when i am 50 lbs lighter those day will be a distant memory.
I am truly excited for all of you and hope you are blessed with a successful surgery and speddy recovery!

I was sleeved on the 1st too, and today was the first day I felt somewhat normal. I was able to get in 40g of Protein but not enough Water. I've had a headache for the past two days. This is much more difficult than I thought it was going to be. I also had a hiatal hernia repair, and my gall bladder removed at the time if my sleeve. Oh and they discharged me only 6 hours after my procedures were done. I kind of wish I had stayed at least one night.

I had my surgery on October 2 and am still in Mexico. Fly home to Texas tomorrow. I'm doing really good, I think it's normal to be tired and headachy. You aren't eating yet and may not be getting in enough fluids. Try to drink often and keep hydrated. Walking is important too, just don't over do it. Hope you get to feeling better, it won't take long!

BigMAlways, I didn't have a endoscopy either. I'm right there with you on being nervous. My date is Oct 1st and I did have to do a 10 diet, just depends on what your surgeon wants. Now that it's just a few days away it's so REAL. Knowing that this is a life changer. I know I'm ready but I'll also be learning new things, that's a scary thought too, after all I've lived in THIS body for 50 years.

I'm wondering how those that got sleeved already are feeling, I know there were several going on the 2nd and a few more after that. I had mine surgery on the 1st, so far it's one good day, then one not so good day, today is not so good, very tired, no energy and headachy. Just want to stay in bed. How about the rest of you?

I'm done! Everything went well. This is one of the few times I don't want to eat. Just getting the liquids down is hard. Right now all I can say is thank goodness for pain meds! The only thing I could compare it to was my 2 C-sections, they were 20+ years ago and this pain is nothing like that.

I've lost 15 pounds on the 10 day liquid diet, I was shocked but I had gain 25 pounds over the last year trying to get all the requirements done that my insurance needed and there were other road blocks and I'd get to points that I thought what the heck and eat a bag of chips.
The liquid diet my surgeon had me on let me eat 3 oz of chicken twice a day but it will be a long time before I want plain old chicken again!
I was hungry a lot but I kept telling myself that this time the diet is permanent, I won't have to worry about when and how much MORE weight I'll gain back once I go off the diet. I know it's possible to gain after you have the sleeve but it's a very good tool to help keep me from gaining this time.
It really helped me to tell my co-workers, friends and family what I was doing. So when I tired or said or did silly things they'd just laugh with me because they knew I was only eating about 600 calories a day.
Just 2 more days! I check in at 9am on Wed morning for my surgery.

This is a long thread but I'll just jump in here. I'm having my sleeve on Oct 1st, 4 days away! I've been working towards this for almost a year, been doing a 10 day mostly liquid diet and everything been ok but I was reading over stuff the surgeon gave me, post op surgery stuff and I'm getting a little nervous.
I think it makes me more nervous since this is an elective surgery. Making myself go thru all this pain. Maybe just too much time to think.
