    Fear of eating

I think it is too soon to give yourself a break, once you reach goal weight maybe but 6 weeks out I think it is dangerous. I too stay away from anything out of the plan. We do not apply moderation very well or we would not have needed surgery so abstinence is the best way to go for know.
  2. Right on Sthomas! I am a band to sleeve revision. I researched long and hard on where to have my surgery done. I was looking at several things for my 2nd and last surgery. I wanted a place with a good record of doing revisions without complications and in a single surgery. I wanted a real hospital and I wanted a sleeve that had proven results. I got all 3 with Dr. Wilhelmy at Mexicali Bariatric Center. I had surgery one month ago and have lost 25 lbs already. I can eat very little and know this sleeve will take me where I need to be. I thank Dr. Wilhelmy and staff and congratulate myself for making a better decision this 2nd time around. Live and learn I guess.

    Gastric Sleeve revision

I am revision from band to sleeve. Have you had someone check your sleeve? maybe you need something else like a bypass or Ds.
  4. I am a revision patient, had a band now have a sleeve. The band may be great for many but it was not the right tool for me. I think success depends on 3 things. First. Make sure you have the right tool you need to lose weight. If the sleeve is the one you believe will be the one that can help you eat less and lose weight do that one. If not choose another surgery! Do not do this because everyone else is. Secondly. I also believe that having the best sleeve done is important. I see many people getting resleeved because they find out their sleeves are now too big or were not done the correct way. Investigate and see who is doing sleeves that work. Thirdly. Do our part honestly, commit to the changes. These need to permanent changes for the most part. You will only be cheating yourself if you do not. Good luck !
  5. Many sleeved patients lose over 100 and even 200 lbs. Doctors give you conservative numbers or averages. If you realistically think that you can stick to the nutrition plan you are on now and exercise then there is no need to go through surgery. For most of us dieting and exercise without the help of surgery are just not enough. Do you know the stats for keeping the weight off with just dieting and exercise? Under 10%. I never was one of those 10%. Surgery was my only long term option.

Has anyone lost weight without exercise

My doctor told me it was like a 3 legged stool; one leg was surgery, one leg was eating and the other was exercise. You can lose without exercise it is just a matter of how stable you want to be. Initially I will lose no matter what just because I will be eaten very little but long term exercise is important. I have drilled it in my mind that in order to have life long results I need to change how I have bend king things so far.

    Barretts disease

Good luck, I had reflux with my band, not diagnosed with barrette's but bad enough that I was nervous about having the sleeve and it getting worse. I just had my sleeve last week so it is too soon to really know if it will get better or not. From what I was told if my reflux problem was too bad the sleeve was not the best option but rather the bypass. Have you discussed this with your doctor, did he give you any options?

Very soon I will go from Band to Sleeve!

I just had my revision from band to sleeve last week, I was self pay, insurance would not cover it. I am still on a liquid diet and can still drink very little, I am also wondering how the feeling will differ from the band. As long as I do not get stuck have to puke so often I am good.

Band to Sleeve in One surgery

I had my band to sleeve revision in one surgery. This was one of the deciding factors in choosing a surgeon for me. I did to want to go through 2 surgeries when i knew that a surgeon with revision experience could do it in just one surgery. My surgery went very well and I am back home toughing it out on my liquid diet.

    Anastasia interview?

I met with my anesthesiologist the day of surgery, basically he asked all the questions and I provided the answers.
  11. I did not run into his name in my research, I went to Mexico for my band removal and sleeve surgery and researched doctors and hospital for a while before deciding. I chose my surgeon because of his ability to do the procedure in one surgery, it speaks of his skill and experience. I am very happy and extremely impressed with the quality of the care I got, the hospital was impeccable and the doctors attentive and professional.
  12. Dr Wilhelmy sutures over the staple line, I just had my surgery with him last week. He does 3 lines of staples plus the sutures. I had a revision from band ro sleeve which increased my chances of a leak. I passed all 3 leak tests.
  13. I do not plan to drink a lot, the empty calories, jeopardize my weight loss, wait until I am on solid food, etc but I will drink some down the road, I know that. Realistically how much can you drink? I had a system with my band when going out. I would make sure I ate before leaving the house and ate some while drinking. Food slides through the band with liquids so it was convenient. I also alternated with Water between each drink and could handle about 3 drinks in one evening without being empty handed most of the night. Guys really push you to keep drinking so this worked, I was still walking at the end of the night and I did not feel alienated from my friends because of my surgery. Any tips?
  14. Hernia repair sounds good, you can have hernias in different places and even have the same one repaired twice so you are covered with that one. Gallbladder more difficult if you actually need it removed later. I told everyone about my first surgery and this time around only my real close network knows. I figure others are not close enough to insist if I tell them I took a few days off.
  15. OUCH! He is afraid of something, might want to sit down and reassure him of what is bothering him. He might be afraid of you leaving him or even of you dying. Have you explored what he really is afraid of?

Can I be sleeved if band caused damage?

I will keep you posted. I spoke with the doctors office again about this and only on eroded bands they cannot do the conversion from band to sleeve in one step and eroded bands are not very common so my odds are pretty good at this point. They said scar tissue was not a problem, they would take care of that. They have removed 10 year old bands and converted them without complications. I am very optimistic of coming out of the OR with my sleeve. Wish me luck.
  18. I doubt anyone with the sleeve will recommend you have the band instead of the sleeve. if you go to the band forum you will find tons of reasons why they choose the band over the sleeve. I have had a band and am now converting to a sleeve. I would have loved to not have gone through that and had the sleeve from the get go. I was so motivated, so ready to change and chose the wrong tool. I can accept it now, I now see it as time wasted, not to mention the financial expense. It took me while to decide to have a 2nd wls but I have and am ready once again. If you can have the sleeve as a first option go for it!

I ate chicken and got sick

This is pretty typical from what I hear, I do not have the sleeve yet but if you read other forums with long times sleeves you will see that they can eat so much more than that.
  20. nowornever14 thanks for the response, my surgeon will be using 36 bougie myself with my sleeve, happy not a 32. I am interested in seeing your progress. I do not want the acid but want the ft even less, I hoping this will take care of both.

Can I be sleeved if band caused damage?

I am scheduled to have my band removed and sleeve done in 2 weeks. After much research I signed up with a surgeon that had a good track record of doing the conversion in one procedure which is what I want. I do not want to put myself in unnecessary risks and I trust my surgeon's ultimate decision in the OR so if it cannot be done I will accept it but as far as I know I would be the first one he could not do. I have not heard of the band causing so much damage that a sleeve cannot be done eventually. If you have too much damage like with an eroded band the risks are much higher and some surgeons will not even do it but it is still done.
  22. My surgery is scheduled in 2 weeks as well, I am so ready to start with my sleeve, I need to have my band removed at the same time. Little more complicated sugary but I am ready.
  23. Good luck to both of you, the sleeve should only last about 1 hour long so you have less anesthesia time to worry about.
  24. I have never heard of this, the band has given me so many problems personally I just want it out. Did they go around the band? or did they remove it and put it back on?

Band to Sleeve in One surgery

I have my revision surgery scheduled and will be having it in a single operation too , I do not see the reason of having to go through 2 surgeries which will need more time off, recovery, etc when you can have it at once.
