I agree. After surgery I was given a bunch of medications too including OxyCodone which I am not very comfortable putting in my body when it's relative is heroin one of the most addictive drugs in the world. I had that and nausea medication and a stool softener and prior to surgery before I had used MJ I was on a huge amount of anti anxiety and anti depression and sleep medication, along side medication I take for my arthritis. I don't take two of the medications anymore and the others were lowered significantly because all of those things can be treated using MJ. Of course it's not for everyone, but it seems like a pretty silly thing to be against.

Mad__crow got a reaction from alexa in When will my gas pains go away?
For me this is the only issue. Gas pain is the only pain. Everyone's recovery is different. I was terrified going into surgery but after it was over sure there was pain but completely livable. I was up and walking around 2 hours after surgery, my choice, and it's no problem. Some people are in bed for 2 weeks. Right before surgery I was crying because I was scared and my doctor said if the pain is going to make you regret this then don't do it. There is pain, you are cutting your body open. Your life will change forever. If the end results are not worth it and you don't think you can keep up your end with diet and excersise after recovery don't do it. I immediatley went in and had surgery. Do not get this surgery unless you will do what it takes to fight for your life also. Our surgeons only take out part of our stomachs, they aren't genies granting a skinny wish.
With that being said I am so happy. Sure I have some pain and while my whole family ate my favorite meal last night, luckily a healthy one I get to have again grilled salmon brown rice and salad yum, I had Water and sugar free popcicles. But what makes it better is when my step-sisters best friend comes over and says holy shit you got Lipo too? (I did not) and it hasn't even been a week.

Hello there. So I has surgery 9-8-14 so currently I am 6 days post op and I'm up and about no problem. I could walk around forever but the only thing that gets in my way, including making me concerned about going to work tomorrow (I only work 3 hrs and I get to be seated the whole time if I need to be.)
When do they seem to go away for people? Does anyone have a special trick? I was told to not take any gas medication to let it all be natural but 6 days of constant gas pains that seem to never go away really sucks. Any advice?

Par, you have some awfully sweeping opinions about things you probably haven't done any actual research about -- not to mention your sweeping generalizations about the "pot fixes everything crowd" and the anti-GMO crowd being stoners.
Nobody here said pot fixes everything. And the anti-GMO crowd I know personally are all chardonnay-sipping soccer moms.

FTR, I haven't smoked marijuana since the 1970s. I smoked it then recreationally, but quit because it slowed me down way too much. That was my experience. It might not be everyone's experience.
I still enjoy wine recreationally. And my doctor says wine has medicinal benefits. So there's my drug of choice.

Interesting thread! I'll just add my two cents to say that all evidence suggests that marijuana has WAY less side effects than a lot of pharmaceuticals - especially vs the benzodiazapine class that are the usual alternative for anxiety. Longterm use of benzos can really take a toll. MJ is such a better option. Glad you got approval from your medical team!

Thank you Bittersweet for helping people understand the situation. You are much more eloquent in your explanation than I am. I plan on discussing it with my surgeon because I wanted to take the pills that have no high effects so that I don't have to smoke it but I don't know how that will make my new tummy feel so I might have to smoke it but now they do amazing things with vaporizers. Also pain medication is so intense and makes me nauseous where as medical marijuana can cure pain and nausea. So I hope my surgeon will say I can switch and stop taking the crazy pain meds. You are very kind to be understanding that it is called "medical" for a reason. Thank you for your support! ????

Well, you can't not drink, so just ease back into it. Small sips. Don't try to drink too fast.
You might have just had a freak experience that may never repeat itself. One day I had 3 oz of chicken and it made me feel nauseated. I gagged a couple of times even. I don't know why. Never happened before or since. Maybe it just struck a nerve oddly. But I still eat chicken. Don't give into fear of a one time occurrence. If this happens again it might be warranted, but for now, don't assume it was the start of something bad. Maybe one of your pills hit a nerve on the way down.

Uhhmm ok. This poster has a medical MJ card and is able to legally purchase it in the state he or she resides in (California). Additionally, there are various forms medical MJ can be taken; it's not necessary to actually smoke it - which I agree is not healthy and certainly not ideal while trying to heal from surgery.
I've never smoked a day in my life, but I have seen hundreds and hundreds of patients in the course of my medical career who utilize medical MJ to alleviate chemo side effects. And it works. I would much rather advocate for a natural substance than have someone throw a myriad of pills at me for whatever ailment I had.
To the poster, I wish you well and I'm certain a common ground can be reached after speaking with your surgeon. It's not my place to determine what works or doesn't work for you, regardless of what research or science says. Poppin' prescribed pills isn't healthy either. Those drugs have to be processed by the liver and kidneys and they take a toll after a while. Good luck to you, especially success with weight loss.

Okay good to know. Yeah walking has actually been harder since I have been home I think it has to do with recieving less pain medication. Is it better to do small walks throughout the day like just a couple walks back and forth from the bed or is it better to wait and just do like 30 minutes walking straight

Thanks so much for your kind words. Do you remember how many days it was for you till the gas pains got better? I feel like everywhere I read it says 2-3 days and I feel like it has to last longer than that.
