  1. I've been pretty frustrated by the lack of coordination between my surgeon's office and all the other docs I've had to see. Luckily I'm a nurse practitioner (yes, health professionals get fat too). If I didn't know how to advocate for myself and how to navigate all the hurdles I probably would be waiting forever to get a surgery date. I considered changing programs but knew I'd have to start all over again, so I stuck with this practice. The doc is great but his office staff needs much to be desired. Example - they sent me a note saying I needed a breath test for h pyelori ( the bacteria some people have in their stomach that causes ulcers). When I called to ask why, since my endoscopy and barium swallow showed no signs of ulcers, she said "well it's required pre-op." They could have taken this test when I had the endoscopy, but since the requisition didn't have it checked, and I had no problems with ulcers, they didn't do it. I pointed out to the docs office staff that I was on Omeprazole so the test would be falsely negative. "Don't worry about that" she says. " Ijust need to be able to check it off as done." Seriously??? There are more - I could go on, but you all get the drift, I'm sure. I plan on discussing this at length with my surgeon, telling him I would never recommend his practice because of this weakness, despite what a good surgeon he is. Anyway, I was wondering how many of you have a case manager at your surgeon's office? Someone who keeps track of your progress, helps you with appointments, etc. not someone who just needs to check off a box, but someone who can answer question intelligently.

  3. I am pinning Medifast "lean and green" recipes for my pre-op weight loss. They look fabulous! Like a pizza crust made with cauliflower......
  4. Iwas told at my first app't at Dr Trivedi's office that I needed a nutrition consult to lose 10lb and then they would schedule my surgery date. I was given a list of 2 names, the first had a 3 month waiting list, the other was a physician, Dr. Lemanski. I saw to Dr Lemanski twice. I lost the required 10lb but he refused to give me clearance. He never once discussed nutrition, instead ordered a ton of blood work to check on my liver function. I explained to his office AND to Dr Trivedi's office staff that I had a primary care doctor and a gastroenterologist who were both monitoring my LFT's and both agreed that WLS would get help my liver return to normal. I finally "fired" Dr Lemanski and have an appointment with a CDN for a real nutrition consult. My advice - I really like Dr Trivedi but stay away from Dr Lemanski if you want a real nutrition consult. You are free to go to ANY Registered Dietician, not just the two on the list they give you (something I only learned just last week despite making numerous phone calls complaining about my experience with Dr Lemanski.) Also, keep on the staff at Dr Trivedi's office. Penny, who posts here and has had surgery is your best bet for a contact there. She is great!

Kate M here! Still waiting for a surgery date with Dr Trivedi at St Peters. I am Seeing a new NUT tomorrow ( my first was a disaster). My first telephone contact with her was very encouraging. She will even go grocery shopping with you. She's in the SEFCU building on Patroon Creek Blvd across from the SUNY entrance.

  9. If you had cancer that could be cured by surgery would you hesitate for one second? Of course not! There shouldn't be such a stigma attached to WLS and we all need to let the world know!!

Don't bother with the Arial "de-alcoholized" Chardonnay. It sucks!
  11. Every time I have dieted I became obsessed with the scale, weighing myself more than once a day, getting depressed at plateaus etc etc. I'm sure you all know what I mean. I turned into a weight obsessed b**ch!! I'm planning sleeve surgery because of my co-morbidities caused by obesity, most especially my knee pain. I don't want to fall into my old obsessive weight loss habits, so I am not planning to weigh myself except at the doctor's office. Is this wise?? Am I jeopardizing my success?
