What makes you say "feck 'em"?

Thank you Selina1000, How are you feeling? For now, I stand by my decision to keep it private. And, I can't wait to get to the other side. Surprising, I feel amazingly secure in my decision of having the Bypass. Perhaps, the butterflies will come later as I have 33 days until surgery. For the first time in a long time, I have hope and strangely enough I feel happier then I have in a very long time. I am at peace and I cannot tell you how awesome that feels.

    October Surgery Date

By the time I got to the Nut appointment at 1:00PM, I had "gone" enough that my weight was 264.4. Last week it was 264 even. Hah! that's still 264 since .4 cannot be rounded up. I do know my math, thank you very much. I only had to postpone Breakfast and lunch to 1:45Pm, no biggie! I also delayed any and all Water. I have since promised myself I am not going to make the same mistake for next weigh in - Nope, I have learned my lesson! On a positive note my scale at home reads 263.2. So, I am still 263. And I am sticking to it
  3. Alright, you twisted my arm everyone. I'll buy the Fage. I am also going to try the plain yogurt with sugar free Smuckers jam. That's an awesome idea.

What makes you say "feck 'em"?

Hi letsgetshrunk, Gastric Bypass is hard, the: decision, pre-op stuff, surgery and recovery not to mention managing living with a medical condition for life. We will always be a "Bariatric Patient." That's a lot to deal with. My basket is full and I don't need mental games with other people. Not now!

    October Surgery Date

HELLO EVERYONE, just went on the scale and I am up 2 lbs from yesterday. How is that even possible? I ate like a bird, but then I drank like a fish. "Identity crisis." We'll have to make a choice here, are we going to be birds or fish? You see, kind of different requirements. So, because we are land dwellers does this mean we have a in-between situation on the bird, fish thing?

    October Surgery Date

Hi Karen, 154 oz of liquids. God almighty, I am never going to make it. I have been "practicing actively" for 3 weeks to make it to 64 oz and only yesterday made it. I don't think I need bariatric surgery after all, my stomach is already small!

So funny Karen Allen. So, here's my big Bariatric Surgery struggle: I am not a Water drinker. In fact, I have been called a camel when it come to liquids. I drink once a month and I'm good, LOL. For 3 weeks now, I have struggled with getting the 64 oz oz water a day I am supposed to drink. Today was my first day, HURRAY FOR ME. But that's not my point. For the past week, I would (out of desperation) try to finish it up before going to bed (couldn't but sure tried). Well, guess who is not getting a lot of sleep. Hi cruisinforalosin, you are going to beat me to surgery by one week. Hi Super bariatric babe, I'm in Virginia and I am having the Bypass as well.

What makes you say "feck 'em"?

Amen, I am so with you on this TEXAS LADY. It is nobody's business. It makes sense to tell the ones that support you because they are your safety net. They can be supportive through the hard times. This is deeply personal decision for everyone. I am not here to judge anyone's choices. We do what we need to survive. Later I may feel different about not telling anyone, of course. But pre-surgery, I stand ALONE!
  9. Not bad at all. Good luck, I too am jumpping through all the hoops.
  10. I know! I had a baby in Australia. It was my third and the best experience ever. A 7 day hospital stay in a private room where both the baby and I were pampered. By the time I got home to my other two kids I was ready and recovered. imagine if I had gone home the next day to two kids who didn't understand why mom needed to sleep. I still don't get why women in the US only stay a day in the hospital after childbirth. Let us know how your doc appointment went.

What makes you say "feck 'em"?

Yeh, on the not telling anyone I was doing gastric bypass: as I went through the hypothetical horrors phase, it dawned on me, it wouldn't be good if mom just went missing. My poor husband and children! I know it's not funny but I burst out laughing every time I think about it. This is the reality of the shame, stigma and hang ups that obese individuals carry. Now, absolutely no one NOT GOING through the bariatric surgery decision process would understand these sort of thoughts, right?
  13. Perth? Hey, I lived in Canberra for 5 years (10 years ago.) Loved every minute of it and would go back in a heart beat, if I could. Never made it to Perth though. Wow, that's really quick. In the US we have to wait 3 to 6 months in nutrition counseling before we get to the bariatric doctor (this is a medical insurance requirement.) It makes sense to get a specialist dietician though. I am sure there are extra concerns to deal with. Do as much research as you can. There is lots to learn and consider. I am glad you have made positive chances on what you eat. Every little bit helps.

    Three month post-op visit

Oh, thank you, for mentioning the Facebook thing. I'll be careful not to do that since I have decided, for now, not to tell anyone, except my husband. I am pretty sure I will share with friends and family, eventually. I just don't want to have to deal with any commentary/opinions for now. My side of the family is a little too honest at times. I remember, I hadn't seen my brother for about a year. I had had a baby, and when I saw him next his first statement to me was not even hello but a straight up "Boy, you have put on a lot of weight." Rude! When my children say something reactive like that, I always reming them; 1) You can have a whole thought process in your head but the world doesn't need to know about it and 2) If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all. Hope your hip recovers soon. How did you get hurt?

What makes you say "feck 'em"?

That's it, thank you, I have decided. I am not telling anyone about my surgery. This is my journey and I don't think I could handle those comments. Only my husband knows and that's because someone has to pick me up from the hospital, LOL. I did wonder if the hospital would release me to a taxi driver. But then I came to my senses - Somebody has to know, just in case.

    Liquid diet

My doctor requires only Clear liquids ( you have to be able to see through the drink) for the 3 days before surgery. So, NO to yogurt or pudding. Water, clear broth, sugar free drinks, sugar free Jello, decaf tea and the like. You may want to give your doc a call tomorrow to confirm.
  18. Hey, with 10 grams I have tons of options. Maybe I had it wrong with the 5 grams. I agree isn't the Yoplait amazing. I love the texture and everything about it. I just found my new favorite dessert. I knew I would find it! LOL
  19. Wow, just realized I have some plain Dannon yogurt in the refrigerator. It has 11 grams of sugar. NO WAY, even more then the artificial sweetened yogurt. I may have to check other supermarkets. Wish I had a Krogers. I may have to check Trader Joes and Whole Foods. This is a quest!

    Finding the Right Sugar-Free Popsicles

Yes, that's what I am doing, using the plastic popsicle maker. I just saw another post for Capella Flavor Drops. It's available online. There is Crystal Light too. I am trying not to use too much artificial sweeteners. I may have to think about this some more.
  21. LOL, no, actually laughing silly - yummy bacon water!
  22. Interesting that you ask. I did a taste test last weekend with 6 brands. I started with vanilla because I needed a level playing field between all the brands. They were all sugar free. Here is what I found out. 1. The sugar free still has sugar 6, 7, 8, 9 grams. My understanding is you are supposed to be under 5grams. No such thing unless you go with plain yogurt, yuck! 2. Yoplait Greek 100 (again I only tested the sugar free vanilla) was by far the best tasting 3. Chobani Greek has only 6 grams (maybe close enough) but the flavor will take a bit to get used to. Maybe another flavor would taste better 4. Siggis was all natural but had 7 grams of sugar and was a little tangy 5. I did not like the Dannon Greek because it had so much artificial sweetener. It was too "sweet" but I think if frozen it would be such a treat. I am thinking, maybe I'll have to mix plain yogurt with the sugar free to be under 5 grams. What is everyone eating ? Help!

    Finding the Right Sugar-Free Popsicles

You mean like lemon extract and the like? Aren't they alcohol based?
  24. It makes perfect sense to me that you want to fix what you eat. For a long time you were "without control" to what you ate. Now you are at a point were you feel in control, why give it up? Please explain to your wife the control is part of the process. It is not about her. This bears no criticism on her. Please tell her you are not trying to maker her feel bad. This is YOUR JOURNEY and her support is what you need. When you eat at a restaurant you are giving up control but that's only because you have no choice. Good Luck.
