@ Getting-used-to-new-me 10 bags, that's a lot of potatoes. Imagine how many fries or mashed potatoes that would make. You probable could host a 1,000 WLS people for a mashed potato party and have leftovers. WOW. Congrats. That visual made my day.

@@amylynns Losing cup size can be a little disconcerting. I'm there too. But let's not forget push up bras and great tops. Kelly on "Kelly and Michael" has like zero breasts and she looks pretty sexy. It's not what you got but what you do with it, right? I am not ready to go bra shopping yet but I will once I hit the 38 size mark. Cup size will be a surprise by then, but probably minus A at this rate. Today I have to return my Christmas pajamas. I had bought a size 1X and last week realized they were too big. The XL pair is a little loose too but It's okay. Imagine that, I'm in regular sizes. I think I may have to look at the after Christmas sales for some XL deals. Not a lot, just a few little things. It's important to Celebrate a little.

@@AuriP It is human nature to be impatient. You want to have your surgery get you there yesterday (me too) but lets not forget, it's supposed to take 12 to 18 months to get to goal. That's the norm. Most people lose a lot early on but it slows down. Also stalls (which are devastating) are very common. I gained a pound since yesterday. How did that happen? I have no flippin idea. Water weight? Storin' up for the desert trip coming up? Who knows! The human body: a wonder to us all.
  4. You are so right, that doctor has no idea what it's like. We on the other hand do know. You are a shinning star, don't ever forget that. Besides there are millions of people with diabetes out there and they live with Hypoglycemia over their heads. Are they survivors, yes. Are they success stories, yes. All of us are success stories. We are doing something about our obesity problem. We dare to have HOPE. Or we could just curl up and die. Let's face it, that's what we were all doing before WLS. Keep HOPE alive!
  5. Nobody. I know what happened, he was supposed to have surgery but chickened out at the last minute. To help him feel better from his epic blunder he stopped for a "snack" on the way home. Technically, he did eat all that on the way home from the hospital. Lol! It is so sad that people don't seem to have anything better to do then come up with programing and information that's so wrong. But then, I'm sure they think the walk on the moon was a conspiracy. Some of those people need a shovel ready job, really! There are some highways in need of litter picking somewhere, I'm sure.
  6. You can do anything that is comfortable except pick up any weight (or push) above 25 lbs. I think 10 pounds should be the max. After 3 days I insured myself pushing something and my tummy was on fire for 24 hours. Bad idea. As far a bending over I purchased a picker upper. Those long arm things with a grip at the end. It saved me because bending over for the first few weeks was difficult. Your incisions are not sealed for about 3 weeks and when you bend over it puts pressure on those. Your doctor gives you the all clear for exercise depending on your situation and it's usually at 4 weeks.

@@smiley922 WLS people have the audacity to hope for a better future. And guess what? It's coming true. I can run now, for only a short bit but I had forgotten what it felt like to run. I was on the treadmill and did a little run. Still very short and careful but it was awesome.

    Should I get an endoscopy?

Yeah time for an endoscopy. But pour doctor knows best. Eating too fast and over filling your stomach is so easy to do but waking up dry heaving is totally not okay. However, I know some people suffer from nausea for quite a while after surgery and have to be on anti-nausea medication. I know someone who was nauseous for at least 3 months. It is rare.

Next time I am at the grocery store I'll size up 48 lbs of ham or Turkey (several of them) and get a visual of my weight loss. I can't wait. Who knew grocery shopping could be so fun. By the way, today for the first time in forever I felt my hip bones. The ones that stick forward. I had forgotten I had them. Hello, I have hip bones, lol!

@ finallyaloser Time to call the doctor ASAP this is not normal. They are on call 24 hours or someone in their staff is.
  11. That's an amazing WLS surgery that fellow got. 3 hamburgers, fries and a 64 oz drink on the way home from the hospital. My surgery went a little different. All I can eat is about 1/4 cup per meal and on my first day after surgery all I could drink was 1 oz every 15 minutes. Of course, I lost 48 lbs and I'm 7 weeks post surgery. Perhaps I need a refund. I want to eat 3 hamburgers, fries and a 64 oz drink and be morbid obese and miserable - NOT! On the other hand, that guy probably didn't make it out of that restaurant alive. He blew up. What on earth, where do people get this info? Your poor mother.

    Sipping Post-opt

You are doing amazing. I could only get 1 oz per 15 minutes. I would line up little plastic medicine cups with Fluid. I sipped very small sips. In the first 5 days I only made it 32 to 40 oz per day and I was fine. I remmember saying that drinking was my full time job because it was so hard. I was either sleeping or sipping. I even drank every time I woke up in the middle of the night. If I had to go to the bathroom I wouldn't get back to bed until I had 1 or 2 oz. Something that was easy to drink was 1 part apple juice (no sugar added) with 2 or 3 parts Water and a cube of ice. The hint of sweetness calmed my tummy.

    Fish Oil Supplement

Interesting, I was told to stop taking fish oil. I actually stopped a week before surgery. I'm not sure if it's temporary. I'll have to ask the NUT when I see her Friday. I am only 7 weeks post surgery.
  14. I have 3 kids and I cook dinner every night. I eat the same as they do with some slight modifications. For example tonight we are having Pasta Bolognese. I plan on removing a bit of the meat sauce and add just a very small amount of pasta. I need more meat then pasta. Then I'll add all the pasta to the sauce for them. Garlic bread, I won't have any, but I might try a tiny bit, the size of a finger nail. I'll have a 1/4 of a fig for desert if there's room left in my pouch. The rest of the family will have figs drizzled with honey and cheese for desert. Yesterday with had baked wild cod with a bread crumb crust and steamed veggies. It scrapped the crust of the fish for my portion and I left a small amount of veggies in the steamer and additional 5 minutes so they would be softer for me. What I am trying to say is it can work. Even when we have french fries, I'll have a 1/4 of a fry with my Protein portion of the meal and instead of a vegetable I'll have a fruit. Usually a single grape, lol. My pouch is that small but I do get a bite or two of a vegetable or a fruit with every meal. I find I make better choices for my family now. Everybody wins.

@@smiley922 Imagine carrying 80 lbs. What if you were to take a bag of that size. I bet you wouldn't even begin to lift it of the ground. Yet, you walked with it all day. No wonder you were miserable. We all were. I hated going up the stairs because it hurt. Taking the groceries out from the car was a chore. Everything was hard. Even though I am nowhere near 80 lbs I can already feel a huge difference. What kinds of differences do you see in yourself?

Happy Monday everyone! And happy losing too.
  17. I absolutely notice and I feel sorry for them because I know they are killing themselves. I also notice morbid obese people about and wish I could tell them there is a solution, you don't have to suffer. But it's not my place to say. Mostly I feel sad, especially if they are young because I wish I could tell them this is where you will 10, 20 years down the road. It's not unlike when I see someone smoking. I just feel so bad for them. Restaurant portions are out of control in the USA. People don't eat like us overseas. I have had a chance to travel all over the world and nowhere have I seen our portion sizes being served. It's a horrid state of affairs and it's killing us.

Once I get more adventurous on the cooking side of things I think meatballs (chicken, turkey, beef, pork, etc.) will be a great option and we can cook them in broth, a little oil, baking or using a slow cooker. There are endless possibilities and flavors to play with.

    OCTOBER 2014

Hi Luna, I had chicken today for the first time and my tummy loved it. I did thighs in the slow cooker because I was told thighs are easier to digest and a slow cooker makes the meat super soft. i didn't do anything fancy I just pulled a asian recipe online and placed it all in. It had like soy sauce, honey, ketchup and garlic and a few other spices. It was good enough. I did eat it slowly and I had two baby carrots cooked to death as a veggie. Me happy! Another thing that was delicious and super easy was Progresso Italian wedding Soup. I placed in a colander to drain all the liquid. I fished out the little meatballs, a few of the veggies and a little Pasta but not too much. It was so nice and tummy friendly because the meat is so soft.

@ AuriP look at your total loss. It's amazing and a week is just a week. Those who clim mountains are not measuring how long they take to get there. The feat is climbing the mountain. Are you climbing it? YES, you are and yes you will get there. Also don't forget to look at BMI. Yours is comparable to so many of ours. The reason I say this is we all started at different weights and we have different heights, not to mention the size of bone structure and then lets not forget that not all fat is the same. Some fat is denser such as fibrous fat.

@@superbariatricbabe My NUT says at this stage absolutely no drinking 15 minutes before meal and an hour after. The reason is you need to keep the meal in your pouch in order to digest it properly and to maintain the full feeling until the next meal 4 hours away. If you drink the food will go through the pouch too quickly resulting in intestinal issues such as gas and bloating and you are hungry sooner. The hunger is not so much an issue in the early stages but we may experience hunger later down the road. The other thing is our pouch opening to the intestines is not the same opening we used to have which controlled emptying into intestine until digestion was complete. Now it's just a hole and liquid goes through easily because it's always open. The analogy used was if your pouch was a sandwich ziplock bag your opening to intestines is the equivalent of cutting a corner of the bag at the bottom. If you fill it with yogurt or a meal with liquid it will leak into intestines but if you fill it with pulled pork it will take much longer to empty. Makes sense!

    OCTOBER 2014

Great analogy Luna. A 5 pound hand weight is a pretty heavy thing and we have all lost way more then that. Also everyone losses at different rates. It's the way our metabolism works and we don't have a lot of control over that. This doctor I saw, when I was shopping for a surgeon, said something that resonated with me. He said the body will do anything it can to hold on to the weight, it will fight for every single ounce and the rate and length of weight loss, after WLS, is a big question without an easy answer. I still remember his statement. Having said all that, and I am by no means saying you should not follow your plan, but my doctor/NUT does not advocate Protein supplements after the first two weeks post surgery. My Nut said they reduce the rate at which you lose weight and you should be eating natural protein at each meal instead because digesting protein in natural form actually causes you to burn calories. Protein supplements have such pure protein they are absorbed readily without much energy expenditure. My statement to her was but I can't get 60 gr of protein per day. Her answer was, what makes you think you need to have 60 Gr. ? I didn't have an answer for that. I guess I have read this on so many posts on Bariatric Pal I assumed. Anybody knows where that number comes from?
  24. No regrets. I feel wonderful and I have lost 45 pounds and I'll be 7 weeks on Tuesday. My biggest problem was constipation. In the early days I did have an issue with overfilling my pouch. Somehow I thought I was supposed to eat 1/2 cup but it turns out I can only eat 1/4 cup. If you eat too much your pouch is not happy. But I have figured it out, if I eat the right amount and eat slowly I can eat most anything. I certainly can take a little bite of anything even desert. It's hard to explain but just that little bite feels just as good as a plate full. It is awesome. Sometimes I chuckle at the size of my meals. Example: A tiny piece of fish, 5 black Beans, 1 grape and a 1/4 inch slice of banana (yes, that's a little thin circle). But that's all I need and I love it. My biggest regret, not doing it sooner. I feel like I lost 10+ years of my life feeling miserable but I was so afraid. It was a silly fear because the results are amazing and I am not even 7 weeks post-op. Thank you Dr. Fitzer.

    OCTOBER 2014

I don't feel hunger at all but if it's 2:00PM and I forgot lunch, I do feel a little dizzy and know it's because I need to eat. Sometimes I will see something that will inspire me to eat. Like Lays potato chips or saltines. They satisfy a craving for salty crunch but it's not really hunger because a single chip or saltine does the trick. I must say it is the most awesome thing about WLS. I used to be hungry all the time. Even after I ate I was hungry and was planning my next meal. I was in a prison and hunger was my cage. Now my day is about what I do and it is liberating. I eat because I have to but it's no ball and chain. At near 7 weeks I can tell when it is time to eat because of habit and I can tell my body is feeling down. Perhaps it's low blood sugar. The message however is gentle and I have to listen or I forget the warning easily.
