nicelady460 reacted to TBodmer71 in 18 lbs put back on.....Argh!
I had surgery on Aug 26th of 2013. I went from 289 down to 173 by the end of Aug 2014. I have since been sabotaging myself, finding excuses and not doing what I am supposed to be doing. Since August I have put back on 18lbs. I weighed myself this morning and the # is now 190.8lbs. I am so mad at myself.
I've been telling myself for a few weeks now that "today is the day I start back on track" and then I go back to my grazing ways and not utilizing my gym downstairs.
As of this morning I am holding myself accountable!.. I am going back to my Protein shakes, logging in my food and exercise journals everyday on my fitness pall, I'll be picking up a new pedometer today (I can't find mine) and I will not be the statistic and regain after all of the work, heartache, and struggles that I had to overcome. I will not allow myself to go back to the person I was that had major weight related medical issues, no energy, low self esteem etc.
    TODAY IS MY NEW DAY!

If someone could just come to my house while I'm at work and wash, dry, fold and put away alllll of the laundry that's piling up, I would be eternally grateful.

Lap Band - I did some preliminary research and didn't like what I saw in terms of weight loss rate statistics. When I met with my surgeon, he told me he would not do the lap band for me because my starting BMI was too high - he says that people with a starting BMI over 40 tend to really struggle to lose all their weight with the band. He won't do it for people as heavy as me, and only on lighter people if they absolutely refuse to consider any other kind of surgery. I also didn't like the idea of all the fills/adjustments. I work full time, who has time for that? Finally, I wanted a permanent tool, not one I could opt out of if the idea of pigging out on vacation was tempting.
Bypass - I strongly considered this surgery. I know a fair number of people who have had this surgery and have done great! But I have a strong family and personal history of autoimmune diseases and my surgeon and I agreed that it would be good to leave as many options for future meds on the table as possible, and that therefore the sleeve was the better overall option for me. I know some people say things like "I didn't want my plumbing re-routed" -- that didn't concern me. For me, I wouldn't make a medical decision based on emotions regarding anatomy that I am never going to see.
I also considered Duodenal Switch and might have opted for it, but my insurance requires a minimum BMI of 60 before they will pay for it. At a BMI of 59.9, it was just barely off the table!
Make sure to discuss all of your options with your surgeon and you will come to the right decision for you. Good luck!

Hey guys I saw a thread from 2011 that I wanted to continue. I love all of my vsgers but as we know african american women tend to carry weight differently. I would love to follow you ladies on your journey and for us all to support each other.
I was sleeved on September 5th so I'm a week out. I'm doing good so far and feeling better everyday. I stayed at the hospital 3 days mostly because they discovered my allergy to morphine while I was on the pump with a fever and my entire body on fire. But I'm home now and much better. I was just moved to the full liquids stage so I'm pretty happy considering that the liquids stage made me nauseous. I've lost 24 lbs since my surgery so any pain I have is over shadowed by my joy.
Looking forward to hearing from you ladies and seeing some progress pics!

8 days op...update. Feeling a lot better. Beware of constipation...ladies! (I learnt my lesson), big time. I had my first (and hopefully) last experience of,
    1. Eating too fast
    2. Not realizing that I was full
    3. Feeling really stupid.
I drank my Protein Shake to fast. I paid, dearly!!
    Take it slow, everyone.
    Love y'all

UPDATE post op day 5- I had to go to my parents house for a few days after being discharged as 2 of my kids had the flu and I didn't want to get that ! So, I am home now and FINALLY passed alot of the gas. It built up so badly that I thought I was going to explode. I finally sat on the floor on my knees in front of the recliner and laid my head and chest on the recliner and let my stomach hang off and rocked gently in the postition, after an hour or two of that off and on, it finally moved, I feel so much better. My pain is minimal which I'm surprised, basically really sore, so I take pain med when I want to go to sleep, I haven't napped all day as I was pacing trying to get gas to move, so I am ready for bed!. Able to get most of my fluids, getting bored of fluids already, I have a few weeks more, hoping at the two week mark then move me to fiuller fluids like Soup. Thanking the stars above I've had an easy enough go at it, got a little weepy today but I think I had let my blood sugar drop too low. Hope everyone is progressing nicely and good luck to those who are in line for surgery!

I'm too, having a rough time. I've taking milk of magnesia and that has helped. I just realize how small my stomach must, because I'm only getting 2sips at a time. I'm just weak, but seems to be getting every better every day
