My surgery is the 17th and this week has crawled by I looked at the calender to day and was sad to see it was only thursday. The clock seems to be moving at a sloths pace. How.does one keep from getting nervous by the weight?

Good day and thanks for reading.
First off, I want to say what an awesome place this seems to be so far. I see a lot of really informative posts, and information and pictures of what people have accomplished. My name is Josh, and I am 28 years old. I've always had an issue with weight, and trying to lose it. I buy all of my clothes offline, i do not go anywhere, except work and home, and i've decided that the sleeve is going to be the right fit for me. I along with my wife have both decided that this is what we are going to do to get ourselves better.
We were married 5 years ago, and i've always looked for ways to make ourselves better, and we've tried diet after diet. It's helped more for me than her, and she then gets discouraged. She was diagnosed with PCOS when she was younger, and the struggles that she goes through really makes life hard for her. But seeing what this surgery has done, and the track record from plenty stories we've seen, it makes us excited to see what could happen in our future.
If anyone has any tips, or ideas about what we can expect i'd love to hear them.
    Thanks.

Hi, Anthony. I was sleeved 8-18-2014, am now almost 15 months post-op, have lost 98 pounds and am now maintaining at 138 pounds.
I eat what I want -- and at least 1700 cals/day. I have learned so much about nutrition, eat well, follow all my new eating behaviors. I do still plan and track my food most days on My Fitness Pal, and I move and walk so much more than I used to.
I look so cute (!), and I'm loving my life. This surgery was just amazingly wonderful for me. The future's so bright I'm wearing shades every day!

I was sleeved in December 2014 weighing in surgery day (at my highest weight) at 334 lbs. Never in my life did I think I would be able to say this, or do this, or keep at this... until I met my sleeve
My birthday is coming fast. I will be 27 a week from today!
In this next week (heck, with luck tomorrow morning) I will honestly be able to say I have taken the greatest trip ever imaginable and I plan it to be a one way trip, never to return. Ladies and gentlemen.... I'm going to ONEderland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Highest weight was: 250+
    Lowest weight post-op: 140
    Current weight: 150/155 (fluctuates)
Even though I'm up 10-15 pounds, it is pretty much muscle because I'm still the same size (4/6 or 27 waist). I educated myself and cleaned up my diet. I still eat the occasional "dirty" food, but I am big on clean eating. I did a lot of cardio the first year and a half, but then started to focus more on the body building. Instead of food being my obsession, the gym has become my obsession (not literally, but y'all know what I mean). I don't use an excuse not to work out. I make time and make it a necessity and a priority, like my job. It is a non-negotiable--tired or not. I have 4 kids and a full time job as a teacher. You can make and find time if you're determined and willing. I love my sleeve. It gave me control over QUANTITY. I took the time and effort to learn and execute the QUALITY of food I put in my mouth.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts. I have decided that tonight I will be going to the support group. I am a little nervous since I don't do well speaking to a group of people. I want to help encourage as many I individuals as I can.

Seeing successful patients makes others get their butt in gear. I love the support groups. Absolutely do it. Everyone is there for the same reason. Some just need proof that this works. You are that proof. Congrats on all your hard work and success.

You sound like you are coming from a place of compassion. You have the experience of being in the shoes of a bariatric patient. I see it as you will have a greater impact on other patients. Absolutely not bragging by helping others wherever they might be in the process.

I agree you should give it ago. We don't have support groups here but if they did i'd love to see someone with a big before picture of themselves and standing there in the flesh as proof and an inspiration that it can and does work with some effort!
p.s. you look great in those jeans!

Kate, same here. I don't know anyone personally that has had sleeve surgery either. A friend of mine had lap band two years ago. I chose a different path.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I have struggled with this so much since last night. I spoke to my husband about it at length last night and he agrees that I should do it. He stated that if I could help one person see the long term goal is attainable and to just allow it to happen then my presence was worth it. I just don't want anyone to feel worse about their personal journey of they are struggling so much right now. My heart hurts for each of them because we all know this journey we embarked on was a hard one.

I went to see my doctor yesterday for my one year appointment. It went exceptionally well. Before I left my doctor and his PA explained to me that they have support group meetings on Tuesday nights. They stated that they had several individuals that were still struggling both physically and mentally with the surgery. They have both pre op and post op patients that attend. They asked me if I would be willing to lead the groups and talk about my success and that the goal is attainable if you allow it to be.
Now here is my dilemma. I was honored they felt I could help. But me, who has been successful in my journey with lots of hard work, going into a group with struggling individuals would that make them feel worse about their struggles and their journey? I feel like it would be going in bragging because I have been doing so well. But the doctors didn't see it that way. They believe that i can help the others see that this can work. That I am proof. THOUGHTS? I have posted my before picture, taken day before surgery last year, and my after picture that was taken Wednesday of this week.

When I went to the seminar before my initial surgeon consultation, there were a couple of ladies there who were one year post-op, and they shared their stories with us. It was good to see that this is something 'normal' people do, and succeed at, and if they could do it, I could too (I don't personally know anyone who has had WLS).
I remember feeling encouraged by their experiences, and thinking, "That could be me in a couple of years!".

Thank you so much Kathy. That certainly makes me feel so much better about going for it. That is exactly what my husband said last night too. I still have my journey to complete. I'm not at goal yet. But I am certainly proud so far.
