    Going to Tijuana, anyone else?

I took a while to get into mushy food... The antibiotics they gave me after surgery made me nauseous and ended up on clear Protein drinks until I was done them. My first mushy foods were fried egg with refried Beans. I'm cycling and on the elliptical four times a week for 45 min on my lunch break. Also a lot more active with my husband on the weekends. We cycled in the mountains last week for four hours. I couldn't have done that before.

    Going to Tijuana, anyone else?

@@Pejela My only suggestions for day of surgery is to bring an extension cord if you want to use electronics, the plug in is far from the bed. Bring headphones... There is a dance club near by that was fairly loud at night time. Also I'm happy that I brought my heating pad to the hospital. There are a couple things, like strawberries, that I throw up instantly... My doctor here said that may change. It's a no brainer to stay away from bread and Pasta. It fills me up so quickly and I usually end up in pain or "burping" it up because it won't stay down. Now that I'm nine months post op, I've figured out tricks if I'm in a hurry to find the food that's kind to my body. I needed dinner on the go the other day. Went to the grocery store and bought 2 hard boiled eggs, hummus and some veggies. I didn't finish it all and it only cost $3.00. If you have any other questions I'm happy to help... Best of luck with your surgery. YAH YOU DID! that's amazing! Congrats!!

    Going to Tijuana, anyone else?

I highly recommend Dr Ortiz and Dr Martinez at OCC in TJ. They were both fantastic, kept the mood light (even though I was ball of nerves) and answered all my questions. Their staff is amazing to deal with and anytime I've needed anything from getting my surgery notes, to calling the nutritionist they've been there or had the answer in a timely fashion. My only regret is I didn't do it sooner. I had surgery on November 10 2014 and have lost 160lbs. I look forward to exercise every day because it gives me energy and it doesn't hurt and I'm not winded a few moments in. I rode my bike in the mountains with my husband for four hours yesterday and could have gone longer. Today, I'd rather have my healthy prepared meals than stop for something on the go. And if I don't have anything, I run into any grocery store and get something that is kind to my body. I'm feeling so much better and looking forward to having the excess skin taken off with them as well. Good luck to all!

I emailed the NUT today and asked why most people I've talked to had to lose 5-10% and my goal is 12%. I also asked what happens if I don't lose it all. She responded by putting me on three shakes + green vegetables and an hour of brisk walking a day until surgery day. And didn't answer the questions. Hopefully someone has some experience here?

They want me to lose almost 50lbs before surgery. I was honest with them about my starting weight and praying I will make the deadline.. Right now I'm doing well on three shakes, vegetable soup (broth and all green vegetables) and the Vitaleph supplements... I refuse to use the Vitaleph shakes... (Maybe I should have misrepresented my starting weight too, I don't know)

It's my biggest fear at this point.... Traveling all that way to be told I haven't lost enough... It's driving me literally crazy.... I feel like I'm starving and doing as much physical activity as I can... Oi... In three weeks I will find out I guess...

I'm doing everything they suggested, even their recommended Vitaleph 3 week pre op kit. Which I have to add are the worst shakes I've ever tasted... The vanilla looks and tastes like dirty water..,, complete with sand at the bottom... Yuck!!

Can't believe my date is three week away.. I'm so excited, and quite nervous as well... Does anyone have experience with what happens if I don't lose all the weight preop? I still have just over 20lbs to lose in three weeks... (I'm stressing out over here! lol)

The same here, I attempted to get the surgery locally and the wait was over 2 years with several hoops to jump through. Every hoop is another doctors appointment, days I have to book off from work.... Days I can't afford to take and they could still decline me... I am booked in Mexico 2 months after I made the decision. I had my family doctor sign the documents for Alberta health to reimburse a portion of the surgery and I will claim the remaining on my taxes. (For a total of $4,500.00 returned to me)..

Yes, the Atkins style diet... Even though it's tempting to want to attempt 3 shakes and a salad... I'm so worried I won't lose enough pre op... They want me down 46 lbs, and I have a weight related foot injury that has me in a cast... Any suggestions on working out? Thanks!

Thanks Jaime and Kindle... Welcome VegasOne! I'm still in shock that I'm getting weight loss surgery. I mean, I've tried every diet, every workout plan, and felt defeated by the weight. Two months from today; I'm in Tijuana, recovering at the Marriott... (Wow!) Today has been a "grieving" day, like I'm having food funerals... The only actual food I'm mourning is soda pop... The rest of it is eating behaviors... I've started protein shakes for breakfast and lunch.. (Paired with a cup of puréed soup)... And a small dinner with nothing in between.. Today I've only had one pop, the rest was water... I figure, if I want to make this a lasting change that I can't "flip a switch" so to speak... So for the next two weeks I'll continue with this plan... Then move onto the official pre surgery diet for six weeks prior to surgery... I keep reminding myself... I am stronger than I give myself credit for.... I am meant for AMAZING things... Celebrate the small successes, I didn't get this large overnight and can't expect myself to do a complete 180 overnight either. I am a work in progress. And broken crayons, still color.

Hello friends! Thank you for sharing your experiences with OCC, it made my decision simple. I've paid the deposit, flights are booked and scheduled to be sleeved on November 10, 2014. Anyone else going to be around? I have a couple worries, that I won't lose enough weight in time... For the most part I'm pretty excited though... I've been overweight my whole life, I've never known what it's like to be skinny.... Hoosiergirl, I can't find your blog.... Could I please have the address? Much love to everyone!
