  1. I know this may have been asked and answered but I haven't seen it, So here we go, in the policy it states:The individual must have actively participated in non-surgical methods of weight reduction; these efforts must be fully appraised by the physician requesting authorization for surgery. What does appraised by the physician mean? Just that he knows of your attempts or does it have to be documented? I go for my first visit with a surgeon next week and I just want to get as much info together to expedite the process. Thank you for your help Medical Policy.doc

Have you tried putting the bariatric chewables in yogurt ( crush them) or blend them with a protein drink?
  6. Look into a second or third opinion if necessary. You need to be with a surgeon and staff that you are comfortable not someone who isn't going to listen to you.

    Please help

Its almost like they haven't went back to their doctors for a check up. I have a binder that tells me what to eat at every stage, I don't have my surgery until 12/10 but I already know what I'm to eat at each stage and I can call the staff anytime day or night.

  14. Every doctor is different. You went with your doctor because you trust him. So just follow what he has asked you to do and not worry about what others are doing. You need to trust that your doctor is doing what is best for you. My doctor requires a 2 week liquid diet.....I would rather have your diet but I will do what my doctor asked of me. Good luck with your surgery...Keep us updated!!!!
  15. WOOOO WHOOO Congrats!!!!! We are surgery buddies mine is on the 10th as well!!!

  19. So happy....finally have a date

  20. I have not had surgery yet, I have just received insurance approval!!! But I was one of those people who would drink coffee all day long. I did a lot of research and found most doctors say to give up caffeine so I did. I also gave up soda and smoking about a year ago trying to become healthier. If I feel the need I drink decaf tea or coffee. I truly want to give myself the best shot at this new lifestyle and am going to try to follow what my experts say to do.
  21. It sounds as if your cardiologist may need to educate himself or re-educate himself about WLS. My cardiologist is the one who suggested WLS to me. I thought I would be unable to have it due to my many health issues but he said I should be fine as long as we came up with a plan on how to proceed. I have several doctors that are all working together to support my decision to have the surgery (VSG), my primary care physician, cardiologist, pulmonologist and WLS surgeon have all worked to get me ready for the surgery. I am now just waiting for insurance to approve and to get a date set. I would ask your WLS surgeon what cardiologist he recommends or find another cardiologist for a second opinion. I wish you all the best and remember we have to be proactive in our health care.
  22. These are some of the questions I had ready to ask: How many VSGs this surgeon has done? In what time frame? What's his personal surgical complication rate? Most common complication? What upfront cost are there? Any fees that are not covered by insurance? Pre op and Post op requirements Usual length of hospital stay Aftercare program Realistic goal Access to staff?
  23. You look amazing!!! Congratulations!
