  1. I was told I would not be discharged without a person to drive me home besides u won't feel up to it also you may be woozy from pain meds I was told no driving for a week
  2. @@Rdepps I had the sleeve I've lost 107 lbs since surgery at end of February this year and 60 before that
  3. Ok I know many ppl that have had the sleeve and a couple that had bypass all are happy with results that being said every WLS has suggested bypass to all of us even pushing it in some cases the heavier you are the more they push its YOUR decision not theirs so far there isn't a lot of long term research on the sleeve but many feel the results are pretty similar I started out very heavy over 400 I lost 60 lbs pre op on south beach Diet as required by surgeon to lose at least 5% before surgery which I had at end of February this year and I'm down 105 lbs since then I've had no problems

    Chicken, beef, pork, fish?

I'm five months out I have trouble with pork too and steak fish I do very well with and shrimp crab I love I cut my shrimp into 3-4 pcs which forces me to have smaller bites and chew it better chicken has to be moist and small for me I can do turkey burgers and lean hamburgers I can only eat about half of one my dog loves this he gets the other part lol I've also had turkey kielbasa and very low fat hotdogs can't eat a whole one but I can do like a half pc regular sausage I can't do it makes me feel awful think it may be too much fat in it maybe oh yes ground chicken turkey beef I've had all three just fine no problem @ daisy I had trouble in the beginning too with chicken and tuna it gets better try it once a week until it stays down lol it felt like it was sticking in my throat/chest chew it really well I use water packed tuna and I didn't drain it try that
  5. Im 47 I smoked from the age of 12 until 2008 when I quit again hopefully for the last time the craving doesn't go away I still want to smoke I smell it coming from pls cars or from far away when ppl are standing outside smoking luckily I can't afford it it's so damn expensive now ironically enough my father now has lung cancer and he quit 23 yrs ago so I'm glad I never started again and I hope I never do I guess some habits u put down are better left there....

    pre op support needed.

Well congrats everyone to a healthier future I work during the day east coast time but I'll answer any questions I can one key thing is try not to stress yourself out follow your instructions it's going to be a process and something to get used to its not nearly as scary as ppl think it is though and just remember everyday gets better and things do return to a normal state try not to panic and eat stuff cuz u think u won't be able to have it again it's not true concentrate on getting thru the pre op process get all after surgery items u need at home before surgery that helps trust me I was glad I didn't have to go running around the first couple days was just so tired

    pre op support needed.

@@Peanutbutterlady welcome to all newbies!! This is an excellent place for support and info both pre and post op ask anything anytime I'm 5 months post op sleeve and doing well
  10. You have worked so hard for a long time to get to this point and adjust to after surgery I have to say your health and mobility must come before whatever he feels if you become so big that u need assistance bathing or dressing is he willing to do that if u become ill or bedridden or can't work is he going to do everything? I hope he really is being supportive for your sake will there be changes in how you look yes there will I won't sugar coat it a lot will change and it will all be for the better u can't be very heavy and loose weight and expect not to have extra skin re ppl looking old guess what we are all getting old it's happening accept it there's is no choice eventually this will include drooping skin wrinkles etc no one escapes u can delay... Plastic surgery etc the highest form of selfishness is worrying about if someone gets healthier how it will affect him words like that are about control good luck to you

    Bandages

I had glue as well also told the same just don't scrub them or pull at them just allow it to come off naturally it did itch some but wasn't intolerable
  12. I was finally approved for surgery last dec 22 and when I tried to schedule the procedure I had to wait till February 24 I was told the surgeon would be on vacation I thought wow for two months? Clearly I should have become a surgeon? Lol
  13. It depends on what the insurance requires and or what the surgeon requires call or go online to find out what the insurance guidelines are and call the Drs office see if they have a plan they follow across the board and find out what that entails my surgeons office would give no info until u filled out an application were accepted to the program and went to a seminar then it was several weeks before I got my first clinic visit I was told I had to lose 5% before I could even meet the surgeon I started in June 2014 and had surgery feb 24 this year it was a long process it took weeks to get each medical test scheduled and then chasing all the medical records down I've seen ppl say if they pay cash it goes faster I don't have that kinda cash or I'd have gladly paid to just get it done without all the BS but I have insurance so I had to go along with it
  14. @@MrsDixon hi I get how u feel it feels like the sucky part will never end been there done that follow whatever your dr has said to do drink as much fluids as u can walk when u can etc look past this part to the future I know it can seem impossible but it's not I promise it really will get better things will return to a more normal state I'm just over 5 months post op and I felt so tired and weak for several weeks I forced myself to drink eat what's allowed and to get the hell out of bed and walk around etc little by little I felt better I still get tired about two hours before the end of my work day I just have to suck it up and push thru don't work don't get paid and well since I have no trust fund lol gotta work this is definitely a process and takes getting used to it's not going to happen overnight but it will happen

    Dumping syndrome?

Yes it can happen unfortunately a lesson I've learned a little is better than none and a lot sends u to the bathroom lol chocolate and regular ice cream (one scoop) nope not happening ice milk doesn't bother me if I just have a little bit two pcs of choc when I must is my limit
  16. shellyd88

    Medicine

It's doubtful that they will if you aren't having pain related to the surgical procedure
  17. shellyd88

    What to tell coworkers?

Exactly you don't owe an explanation to anyone and no one should be gossiping about others health issues anyway it's rude and unethical if you feel comfortable down the road and decide to tell ppl you can say you needed some time to get going on this path and to get used to the changes needed etc just remember u can't un tell besides those that gossip will find something or someone to talk about if not u someone else also it will likely drive them crazy to not be in the know I say let em wonder if asked say I only discuss medical issues with dr but thank you for asking
  18. I think there aren't many of us who didn't cheat on the pre op after all we didn't get this way strictly eating fruits and Veggies once u have surgery u won't have a choice but to eat your protein for the first few months you will only be able to eat a little bit at a time u will feel full and not deprived it will take time to work up to foods u ate before however choosing wisely will be up to you having an occasional treat is something to look forward too how occasional is also up to you the success or failure is up to u the amount of loss also mostly up to you if you really want to do this u must decide the changes are what u can live with cuz if we eat high calorie high fat high sugar foods we will gain weight or fail to lose its up to us the surgeon made our stomach smaller but they can't decide for us if we eat the pizza or grilled chicken we made the choice to have surgery now we must choose to eat right most of the time good luck to you I was scared to but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be

    Fiance not to happy

Well that's an issue they need to work thru it can't be your problem if a relationship is stable it can withstand a lot losing weight to be healthy shouldn't be a threat to anyone
  20. shellyd88

    Fiance not to happy

What problems is it going to bring? I'm five months post op haven't had any major issues at all
  21. Oh yeah this sounds familiar I didn't sleep either the night before Best of luck to you and a speedy recovery
  22. If your insurance did not require you to lose weight file the appeal meanwhile if you don't already have a copy get the insurance guidelines or requirements in writing u are entitled to a printed copy of what your policy does and doesn't cover ask for it to be mailed to your home they may try a denial first hoping u will give up and go away so they don't have to pay for it I got my copy within a few days of asking I have bcbs in ny My surgeon required me to do this they may say look it up online blah blah say u don't have a computer they have to give it to you make a note in your calendar of when u asked and made the call save the envelope it comes in with the postmark make a copy your dr may want a copy mine did hope this helps
