  1. Congrats to all having surgery tomm best of luck and a speedy recovery
  2. Omg I couldn't eat tuna either had exactly the same thing happen except I was like 4-6 weeks before I tried it may be just too soon for you to try that at only four days after surgery your still very swollen inside for myself it was closer to three months before I could really eat meat or fish and not have that feeling like it was in your throat etc I basically had soups broths cottage cheese eggs jello puddings little bit of ground meats for close to two months be careful don't hurt yourself eating things too soon
  3. They legally have to tell you all that most ppl don't experience any major problems although I will say it's an adjustment for sure it takes time to get used to and the first few weeks can be really hard and it feels like it won't get better but it really does I has a real emotional roller coaster ride I think partly because I felt so incredibly weak for a few weeks but once I got enough fluids and some meds adjusted and forced myself to get up and do things if just for a few mins here and there I started to feel so much better

    Rant of the day

@daheiev omg laughing .... Sorry I know it's not funny been there done that these surgeons do other procedures besides bariatric and they must see post op and pre op patients plus they taking a lot of freaking vacations every single person I've met or talked to that had this done I'm sleeved went through a ton of bs as well every test is scheduled weeks apart or then resheduled or they didn't receive the reports or the faxes never came and on and on and I started my process in June of 2014 I finally got cleared for surgery at end of dec only to be told the surgeon is on vacation after holidays I had to wait two months and three days after completing requirements to get the actual surgery I was so mad I told the scheduler I clearly should have become a surgeon so I can take an 8 week vacation

Who, and when, to tell about surgery?

Your not legally required to tell coworkers or bosses what kind of procedure you are having just that your having a surgery requiring x amount of recovery time off time light duty whatever bariatric surgeons also do other procedures so it's not a given that anyone should assume that's what your having even if they do your not required to admit or deny anything if u need to file temporary disability then fill them out etc dr isn't allowed to disclose to employer your medical info just has to say u need time off etc your legally entitled to medical privacy dr can simply state abdominal surgery and not give specifics if u don't want to tell u don't have to once u tell u can't take it back if anyone is bold enough to ask outright or try to guess and by bold I mean rude simply state I only discuss medical issues with my dr I'm fine and all is well but thank you for your concern and promptly change the topic

When your spouse/significant other is still obese...

@@dhrguru thank you I hope to be able to make a transition soon it's been awful I wouldn't wish it on anyone some ppl are just plain nasty
  7. shellyd88

    How to forgive someone?

Forgiveness is really for you not for the offenders benefit so you can move on lesson learned it doesn't mean u have to hang out with that person or have any kind of relationship with them
  8. @@Inner Surfer Girl that's the list I go by as well I usually go to the warehouse club as I have a membership there so we can get large pkgs and quantities as many families have kids to feed and need to stretch meals out I've been on both sides of that situation and it's an awful feeling to not be able to buy grocerys and basic personal items whenever we donate clothes to the women's shelter we also give things like shampoo q tips deodorant razors soap tampons etc we also save any samples we get from magazines etc when my boss has huge catered party's there's tons of food that was never even open or used we drop it off at the city shelter last summer we were able to give them leftover food for over a 100 ppl to eat burgers hot dogs chicken ice cream rolls salads appetizers condiments etc was great to know ppl that needed to eat could rich ppl buy so much food and eat very little but it got put to good use

When your spouse/significant other is still obese...

It's a good idea to let the idea be theirs not be pressured or shamed into it if they see success it may plant a seed I know the awful feeling of constant shaming pressure and discussion I was threatened with being fired if I didn't have this surgery and it wasn't because I couldn't do my job it's because my employer is a skinny fat shaker who makes it her business to humiliate everyone that doesn't look like her and if you want to laugh she is a size 2 literally and eats cookies brownies chocolates ice cream mms all day makes me sick she even fat shames her daughter who isn't fat at all the girl is size 8 at 5'9 that's not fat she is just pathetic and nasty

When does instant urge of BM stop

When the swelling goes down in your new stomach it gets better with time there's an adjustment period liquid in liquid out etc some ppl have trouble with protein powders as well they can uh make you gassy lol it will get better I swear
  11. I'm too mortified to tell anyone how much I've lost except here to know that I got that big is embarrassing it's all ppl want to talk about when they see me how much have u lost what did u eat today ughhh I feel like screaming can't we talk about something else? I got so sick of it I don't answer I say a lot and change the subject I'm almost 6 months post op sleeve and I'm 6'1 so luckily not too many ppl say nasty things to me or negative things about surgery if they do I just say when I want your opinion I'll ask for it and I didn't ask... that usually gets them quiet lol I do ignore a lot of crap I've had to my whole life being so tall for a girl a got a lot of shit lol so I have a pretty thick skin I think really that people cannot possibly understand something that they haven't experienced
  12. Where I live in western ny I paid about 2,000 for the endoscopy and the sleep study was two parts and about 4,000 plus the cpap machine and mask I had to mandatory wear and use for 30 days before surgery it had a chip in it u have to turn in and they send a report to the dr my surgeon said if I didn't comply no surgery so I was stuck your insurance may cover the testing for cpap and sleep study cuz that can be ordered without an underlying surgical reason usually u can go on your insurance company website and look for prices of procedures I had to log into mine at bcbswny.com with my name and password so u can see what your benefits are and then usually if u navigate around u can find like common procedures or tests something like that and then look in the list click on any one u may need done and it gives you prices for local and some further away places it seemed the more rural places weren't as expensive and large city hospitals like where I am are freakin hella expensive
  13. I think it comes down to most people feeling or thinking that surgery for weight loss isn't needed you just have to eat less and exercise well no kidding if it were that simple no one would be overweight right? It's an addiction a habit a comfort much like alcohol and drug use to which some become addicted well geez if only they would stop drinking or drugging right so simple that's why rehab exists right? Addiction changes your chemistry like alcohol and drugs food is always there a temptation I think of this as a sort of rehab for us a chance to reset and move forward after all this will help us lose weight but if u eat bad food all the time u will be right back where u started
  14. Those are the ppl u are polite to and that's all polite but distant just the bare minimum so not to be rude no one who ever treated me that way when I was heavier will be called my friend now that I'm thinner not acceptable at all
  15. shellyd88

    Nervous

We can all beat ourselves up with the if only we hadn't allowed this to happen story but it's not changing a damn thing I think of this as our "rehab" there's drug abuse alcohol abuse etc everybody goes to rehab it's expected well this is our rehab let's use it wisely and stop living in the past and move forward what's that saying u can't change what u don't acknowledge? Well we know we have a problem and we are trying to fix it let that be our new story and a new start
  16. shellyd88

    No energy

Yes I had this issue as well once I started drinking more I felt better also I was low on potassium but I have AFib so that may not be your problem I was told to try some low sugar orange juice and some mashed bananas which did actually help I actually had to force myself to get up and do things if even for a few mins at a time took all my energy to shower
  17. shellyd88

    Nervous

@@lealor u know what I think ok I'll tell u lol speaking for myself and I'm sure a lot of us we have been heavy for so long and so used to eating the way we did or do and being treated the way are I think it's because we don't think we deserve better well we do we deserve to be healthy around for our children spouses friends parents to be able to participate in things to go amusement parks on hikes swimming with families and not be stared at or talked about because of how we look to included in things not have to see our friends cut us out cuz they are embarrassed of us to be treated with respect by Drs and not ignored its time to take our lives back and put the food addiction down and all the bad health issues that come with it I watched my mother die at 56 years old of diabetes she refused to alter her eating she had diabetes for seven years and was dead she got gangrene and developed sepsis I watched the flesh rot off her body while her organs shut down until she finally stroked out and I thought to myself no freakin way am I going out like that I'm going to take control before it's too late
  18. Oh trust me after endoscopy u will feel DRUNK do not drive don't get in cab with some stranger my hospital would not do that procedure unless u had a driver and they gave it in writing no cabs allowed either I couldn't have even walked from where I was to the front door of the hospital I would have fallen on my face
  19. shellyd88

    Nervous

Hey hi I'm almost 6 months post op and I've been there too try to relax don't overthink it u will drive yourself crazy I swear to you it's not as bad as ppl think it is I was sleeved it is hard in the beginning so prepare yourself but it gets better every day it's not true that u won't eat again or have things u like for a while it's going to feel that way I promise it won't be forever I can eat anything I want pretty much just a small amount u will have to decide if your going to mostly eat healthy and have things that aren't so great once in a while cuz if u eat high fat high sugar high calorie u won't lose as much or may stall it's all up to us they make your stomach smaller the head trips and I want that foods we have to decide what we eat or not... The pain isn't nearly as bad as expected a few days of feeling like u pulled a muscle mostly getting up and down or bending over took no pain meds after 36 hrs had bad gas and nausea they will give u meds for that just drink as much as u can force yourself if u have to eat what's allowed follow your instructions
  20. Excellent kick ass and take names we pay for the insurance we should get answers to questions we have not get bullshitted around and have to tell 5 diff ppl the same story and still get told nobody knows anything I work with attorneys and I think wow all that education and they aren't very bright .... Until I dealt with insurance company's and wondered where in the hell they found these ppl or do they train them to act stupid like they don't understand what your asking?
  21. Omg I remember going thru all this with my insurance bcbs they won't tell u anything they only want to talk to the Drs office I myself came close to needing bail money on a few occasions
  22. @@More than this hi welcome I see your in Canada the pre op testing your facing is pretty much the same as in the USA I had to do all that as well your cash price is good tho compared to here for sure lol I just want to say that a lot of Drs and regular ppl too are against WLS especially those who don't and never had a weight issue some think it's just mind over matter eat less move more etc and that's true to a point but the is an addiction in my opinion no diff than drugs or alcohol when u say to those they use substances just stop well yeah if we're that simple no one would be on drugs or alcoholics or eating too much I'm not suggesting your dr isn't a good dr but Drs are human beings with opinions feelings and judgements etc you must be able to decide for yourself and not be treated as if your a child or like your not allowed to help yourself in the way u see fit these procedures have been around for a long while now yes some have complications but most don't don't put off doing what u feel u must do to help yourself a dr advice is to guide you and be sure u have all the facts which u can do by researching as you obviously are doing and I have to say I do feel as if this dr is trying to scare you out of this based on their disapproval however it's your life your decision and you must live with the effects and limits being overweight not the dr so do what u need to do for your life and do not allow ppl or Drs to back u down its your life you get to run it hey if you can come to the states to get it done try that where ever you live see where the nearest big hospital is and see if they have bariatric programs u can probly email someone at that hospital and ask questions etc I'm about 5.5 months post op sleeve I'm in ny
  23. Yes the isolate is better it's more expensive but dissolves better etc I didn't care at the time cuz I couldn't choke it down so I got the genepro unflavored and mixed in with hot tea broth soup cottage cheese pudding dissolve with a bit of water those before adding to hot liquid or it clumps it was all I could tolerate
  24. shellyd88

    pre op support needed.

I'm sorry to hear that honestly if a so called friend can't support u well doesn't seem to mesh with being a friend we all don't have to agree with pls decisions or choose it as an option for ourselves but at least say hey if this is what u need I'm here I got your back I also had a friend of many years refuse to discuss it even and didn't speak to me for a few weeks turns out she was scared doesn't feel that ppl need have surgery to loose weight etc and thought that I'd lose weight and become the food police lol I said hey who am I to lecture anyone when I've been there myself and really ppl that are overweight they know it they know what they should or shouldn't eat to lose weight etc having someone lecture them isn't helpful it doesn't work anyway if it did lots of of us would be much thinner a long time ago lol I don't listen to negative stuff I don't talk about it but if I'm asked I say I had surgery I'm just not a person who takes any crap from ppl giving opinions about my health or how I should lose weight anyways good luck to you and welcome!
