Sweating and Eating
...I'm washing grill smoke out of my hair. I really did not do too bad, I had some steak and about a tablespoon of a couple of side items. It was just too hot to eat much else:cursing: I am so proud of everyone who ate healthy (Boca Burger you win the crown)

Sweating and Eating
:tt2::tt2::tt1::tt2::thumbup::tt2::thumbup: I made you look! :smile2::tt2::crying::tt2::tt2: Hi Girlies! What are you eating on the Fourth of July? How has being banded impacted your holiday cookout? I'm from the dirty south so you know it's always about food and more food. But to tell the truth-I really don't feel like washing the smell of grill smoke out of my hair! I haven't been banded yet but i still would rather eat sushi and sip plum wine. It's hot in Alabama and I have spent too many meals sweating and eating:cursing: lmao Holla! PS Thanks skinnyoneday

Women of Color and WLS-New Social Group
Please don't view this group as segregation ( I actually thought about how that might be perceived). It is actually more special interest. I agree, everyone on this site has the same struggle. But, this site also has forums for people that have other things in common besides their band. There are groups for diabetics, people over 50, people banded in December, you name it. So please, this endeavor has good intentions. I also still post to the other forums as well-for example the Alabama group. My soul needed this! So I had to follow my heart.

OK Girls, Loose Skin? Haven't you heard? My momma always said, "black don't crack!" lol Seriously, at my seminar someone asked the Dr. about loose skin and he said that black women do a lot better. He said our skin seems to be more resilient and will generally mold to our new bodies very well.--Holla I am so pleased at the response to this thread! I got this idea after lurking and posting on this site for months. I really like the technical information that you can find here. Obesity Help has an African American Forum but I never post-just lurk. I can't really get into some of the drama that goes on there but I love the bond that they seem to have. So, I decided to create a social group here that could be a combination of technical info. and bonding. I'll post how to join in a new reply

Women of Color and WLS-New Social Group
Hi ladies , I created a social group for women of color (African, African American, Latina, etc) to discuss the physical, emotional, and cultural impact of weight loss surgery. Let's talk about everything that we really want to ask -like how is wls viewed in the black community? or Is it really true what they say about black women and loose skin? Please join so that we can create a forum Holla back!

Im in the hands of the Insurance now!!!
Black Cherry- You didn't use dr. recorded weight history. Your insurance co. accepted photos as well? How far back did you have to go? Did they mail the information? How did you get an approval so quickly if they mailed the pics with the info?

Im in the hands of the Insurance now!!!
OMG! Congrats to both of u. Emily, it's hard to believe that u started this thread a few days ago stressed out! That was quick for both of u. My stuff had to be mailed in because I am using photos to document weight. So no I need you all to pray for me, seriously because now i am in the hands of the dreaded ins. co.

I talked to Naomi this morning and she said that I will have to do the nutrition class once I am approved. She made me feel better about the approval process. So now I am just waiting...

I'm such a dum dum and Jason u r awesome for replying to my ever growing list of questions. I will be in town that weekend afterall! Besides, I'm such an information junkie that I need to attend every meeting! :sidebar: I am worried sick about this approval process. I have the BMI but no comormidities. What about u? Is naomi really good at sending info to ins co so that it gets approved? hmmm maybe I could use that as a thread starter.

How much longer do you have?
Hi all, Wed. May 28th was supposed to be my last appt. but I had to reschedule The Dr. Could not see me until the following Tues. June 3rd. I though that it would be fine until the surgeons office called and said that I would have to do another appt. for June! I made one and kept it for this past Monday. I also called ins. co. and they said the dr. could have written a letter stating that he could not schedule me until JUne 3rd. So to make a long story short I told my doc and he wrote me a letter for the ins. just in case. Moral of the story-Don't miss an appt. Don't wait on the surgeon's office to hold your hand through this. TAKE CONTROL. Talk with ins. co. and ask them how many days between appts. and so on...

oh no i just remembered that i will be out of town. Naomi said that it wasn't required of my ins. co. but for the dr. what is your experience with this. Is it true that they won't do my surgery until i attend?

Anyone with bc/bs of al PEEHIP?
I am going through the process of having the lap band approved. I am using DR. Schmitt in B'ham. I am actually hoping to get my paperwork sent off by next week I did the 6 mos. diet WORD of ADVICE: Don't miss a month or appt. My last appt. was scheduled for May 28th but we had to reschedule. The 1st available was June the 3rd I believe. I thought that would be oK. Low and behold the surgeon's office called and said that I would need to go again in June. I did -2 days ago. I also called bc and they said a letter from the dr. explaining that he had to reschedule would do. I did both-the extra appointment and the note from my dr. I am also using photos to document weight history because I do not have the doctor documented weights (did not go to dr. in past 4 yrs).
-
No Previous Weight History?
My insurance co.-bc/bs allows the use of photos as documentation.
-
Photos as BMI documentation for Ins. Co.
It's a bummer for me that I don't have dr. recorded weights. However, my policy allows for photos as documentation.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients
Hey Jason, I hate that Naomi will be out until Tues. I was really hoping to get my stuff sent to bc/bs today. I did call bc and they said a nutrition visit was not required and...:drumroll please: the surgery is covered at 100%! My out of pocket expense is a $100 copay.
