  1. I would have walked over and said, Thanks, but I can eat what I want and I want a few fries. I don't need you saying a damn thing. You don't see me stopping your booze fest, do you?
  2. I have pretty much told anyone who has asked about my weight loss. I have no shame or guilt going the surgery route, no diet had ever worked for me. My parents even tell people as they are so proud of what I have accomplished so far. Having people at work know about it, has them thinking about healthy eating, and seriously, more people bring their lunch to work now, and ask my opinion on healthy eating. Its been a work in progress, learning how to eat again, eating healthy, making the right food choices. I like people asking my opinion on this and I like the comments I am getting. I will never tire of that. That people are noticing me, instead of me being the invisible fat person is great. And if someone has some snarky comment, I ignore it, and think f**k you. Most people I know need to lose a few pounds themselves.
  3. I am guessing that means Protein shakes, or smoothies. I really can't remember who gave it out. But I guess with that 45g protein, plus the protein from the 5 3oz servings, you are doubling your protein for the day, so maybe that is why it busts the plateau.
  4. I got this at one of the support groups I went to right after I got the band, but I am not sure who gave it out. It said that some saw results in as little as 1-2 days. How to break a plateau: Do this for 10 days to break a plateau Drink 2 Quarts of Water per day You must have 45 grams of Protein supplements and take all of your vitamins/mineral supplements each day. You can consume up to 3oz of the following high protein foods 5 times a day: Beef, Pork, chicken, Turkey, Lamb, Fish, eggs, Low-fat cheese, Cottage cheese, plain yogurt/artificially sweentened, Peanut Butter, Beans/Legumes. You may also have: sugar free popsicles Tea or coffee Sugar free Jello Broths/bouillions Crystal light drinks If its not on the list, don't eat it. Keep a food diary and try to get up to 30 minutes of exercise a day. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't vouch for anything working or not. But if someone is really struggling, why not try it?
  5. I am 6.1 cc in a 10cc band, and think I need a bit more. I have lost one pound in three weeks, and had been averaging about 1 a week. I am able to eat a little too much these days. Eating healthy things, but a bit too much. On another note, had a complete physical last week, and got the results today, BP was 110/70, Cholesterol was 156, among other things. My BP was generally average in the past, but at last years physical, my cholesterol was 214. So another great result of losing weight. B-Man, I would call the docs office. You should not be feeling pain when you eat something.
  6. I came on to post that. IF you get the build your own fajitas, get the shrimp, chicken or steak or a combo of them. Then don't eat the tortillas, but as Tess said cut it up really well, and eat it with the guacomole and salsa. Its great, even when you have it left over and cold.
  7. Stay away from the scale. Ramp up the liquids, maybe go all liquid for a day, you know, the Protein shakes, slim fast etc. Eat more fruit, of whatever kind you can get down. Stay away from the crackers or cheeses or even Soups. At work, I have a plateau busters food plan that I got at a support meeting. When I go in tomorrow I will scan it in and if you send me your email, will send it to you.
  8. Guy in my office told me that I am melting away. Down 52 pounds, still 93 to go.....
  9. WooHoo, isn't 50 such a nice number? Congrats!!!
  10. Well I tell you the heat in NYC has been atrocious. I haven't been able to walk and I haven't been able to really eat anything. For the first three days this week it was lots of Water, smoothies, slim fasts and I actually finished a whole watermelon. I weighed myself and gained 3 pounds, I attributed that to the weather and that I was retaining water. I didn't let it bother me much and all of a sudden between yesterday and today, I must have been in the bathroom 30 times. I was able to eat a small midday meal yesterday, and today had 2 scrambled eggs in the morning :rolleyes2:, (I could never eat in the AM), and boiled shrimp for lunch and no dinner. So I think I am back to normal. Great weight loss NYG and CPMU you are guys are doing fabulous. I am back to the doctor in two weeks. Have my annual Physical with my PCP tomorrow.
  11. Well I just turned 41 and that comment was made right to my face. Mind you, I called my wedding off just three weeks before it was scheduled and this person knew that, This person also knew that even when I was fatter I had a healthy dating life. Nonetheless, now that I am not dating anyone, the comment to my face was, well you had the surgery to snag a man into marriage, seeing that you couldn't get one of them to commit to you before. I responded that I would rather be alone and happy than to be miserable and married like she was.
  12. Congrats everyone, I am joining you with the less than 100 pounds to lose now. Its a great feeling, even though I still have to lose close to the 100, but it feels great.
  13. Its been so freakin hot in NYC for the past three days I can't motivate myself to walk or do a damn thing. Not only that, I have not been hungry for a few days either, been drinking up a storm of Water, slimfast, and veggies and fruits I have juiced. I have even finshed a 10 pound watermelon. But no real food. Want to hear the kicker, I have gained 3 pounds. I think its my body retaining water in all this heat. But since I haven't been hungry I am just drinking so I am not letting it bother me. My band, I guess, likes the heat.
  14. You should never be embarrassed to go to the doctors. Maybe the band was never filled, maybe its detached. Who knows. But remember a doctor saw you naked at birth, saw you in all your glory for the surgery and is the only person to help you with this problem. They don't like to see people fail either, so go to the doctor....
  15. Thanks everyone, you are all getting close. I am figuring 30 more for the rest of the year, so the 50 was big for me. I am so happy with my progress these past few months. Had a 4oz filet mignon tonite and some grilled veggies and I feel great. Its so cool to finally get the portion control down and be satisfied on such a small meal that 7 months ago I would have had as an appetizer.
  16. Well I guess if you are in, respond with a post, that way we can all support each other. I made it way over 630 minutes in May, so personally, I will be reaching for 900 minutes in June. If there is a response I will start a new June thread.
  17. My first month was a mess, I couldn't get anything down for a week after the surgery, and had complications right from the start. Had a bad reaction to the morphine, was dry heaving for hours after the surgery, had a reaction to the latex, had to go back to the hospital 2 days after my release, had lymph node draining issues, developed a nasty rash across my midsection, had to go back to the hospital again, couldn't lift anything, couldn't roll over in bed, couldn't get comfortable. Was taking massive pain killers, was beat during the day, drugged at night to sleep. It took me a solid month to get back to some normalcy. Now, just 5 months out, things have calmed down, and I can honestly say, I would do it all again. I am so happy with how the band is working for me. Hang in there, trust your doctor. You will see that this was for you.
  18. Thanks everyone.:tt2: Had Chinese food for lunch today, took half back to the office, its tomorrows lunch!! Had just wine and cheese for dinner, and half of a non fat Carvel ice cream Sundae. Heather, excellent on the workout time for the month of May. You will be down the 4 pounds any day now with all that activity.
  19. Well all, 5 months out, I hit my first goal, which I had set for July, I am very conservative with my weight loss. I am officially at 51 pounds down!!:wink2::biggrin: Not only that, the doctor said that I didn't need a fill, so no fill today. Its my birthday too, so now I can have the sensible lunch out with the coworkers instead of the Protein shakes today!!!!! Last night I tried on almost every thing from one side of my closet, and can only save or tailor 8 of 25 outfits. I was crying when I was trying this stuff on and they were too big. Geez, lots of emotions when losing weight that I never thought of. But today has started out being a fantastic day.
  20. I have trouble with regular Pasta, but ravioli and tortellini go down easy when I cut them small. I can have only 4 ravioli, or 8 tortellini when I eat them for dinner. Why the chewable calcium? I try to get in at least 2 cups of milk a day these days, and use childrens chewable Vitamins with Iron, I take 2 of them. Its cheaper than adult chewables or liquid.
  21. I am surprised that this never came up before, especially since the hospital should have done a Pre-op checkup about 10 days before surgery. I would follow up with both my PCP and surgeon to get the ball rolling so you can have the surgery. Good luck. :scared2:
  22. Go to the doctors tomorrow. I was tight and couldn't get much down two weeks ago, but think maybe I could use 1 or 2 cc's this time. The last week or so, I was back to eating again. I bought a bag of Cheetos last night, didn't eat the whole thing, but still bought them. Weird since I haven't had Cheetos in over a year. I gave the bag to my friend as I didn't want to finish them.
  23. Hey, is anyone out there working out, even a little bit? Come on folks, dropping weight and doing no exercise will lead to loose skin in more places than you might have thought. I am not saying I am working out like a dog, I am not, but doing some exercise is better than none. I notice that now that I am losing weight, my calves, which used to be solid fat are getting mushy, and I walk all the time. My midsection, where I have lost 6 inches, is getting a little mushy too, and I am in Pilates. With that being said, since the 18th, I have walked and/or worked hard on chores and Pilates for 7 hours. Putting me at a total of 740 minutes this month so far.
  24. Thanks for seeing it guys, cause I still can't really. That frustrates the hell out of me. Not seeing the weight loss.
  25. My best friend is a man, 380 pounds, 6'5" tall. I have given up trying to understand his feelings on me getting the band. I get comments from him all the time, that I don't respond to them anymore. He says he can't tell I lost any weight, complains when we go out to eat and I eat little, complains when he comes over, I have no soda, etc only Water and propel in the house. Says that I could have just went on a diet, says I didn't need the surgery. Complains to me that when he goes to his GF house, she berates him to lose weight, and doesn't feed him. He misses coming over to my house and eating. So, to maintain my sanity, I don't discuss weight or food with him anymore. I have a bottle of soda here for him, and make dinner the way I always do now. We don't talk about the band, dieting, or exercising. I have told him to not insult me, and if he doesn't like what I am doing now, don't come over and we won't hang out. I know that we have a strong friendship and so far, he has kept his tongue. I guess time will tell.
