jphilp got a reaction from Kindle in Please recommend an unflavored protein powder
I use whey Protein isolate micro filtered from truenutrition.com. The cold filtered dissolves in everything and has a neutral flavor as well, but I recommend the micro filtered if you are at all sensitive to lactose.

@@Big_Mama I ended up bringing a tablet, robe, toothbrush, and toothpaste. Beaumont would not let me take gas-X strips so those stayed in my wife's purse. The one thing that came in very handy was the sugar free NICE lozenges that one of the nurses gave me. It wasn't clear that after the surgery I was not allowed any liquids until they did the leak test the next morning. No liquids made for a very dry mouth and throat.

jphilp got a reaction from wannaBthinsoon in Is a colonoscopy a requirement for the sleeve surgery?
I have to do the yearly colonoscopy/EGD combo due to family history and was told I had to get it done before my sleeve. The primary reason was that he said it will be close to impossible to complete the prep for 6+ months afterward. The added benefit is that you can have your EGD doc check for a hernia at the same time. You are in and out of the hospital in under 2 hours.

I was hardly able to sleep the night before. I was very excited/nervous. The most helpful thing I had was my wife just happened to have Chapstick on her, and it was a lifesaver. I was so dried out and desperate for Water by the morning after the surgery, and the Chapstick was so helpful to make it through the night.

Made it through ok, leak tested and released today. I am a lot more sore than I expected to be, but no big sharp pains. The sipping is probably the worst part so far. The more I try to sip the more air I end up ingesting.

Getting sleeved tomorrow at 8am and sitting here trying to make sure everything is order for my return home. Does anyone have any ideas for thing they wish they had done the night before their big day?

Good luck tomorrow!! We will see you on the loser's bench soon! Make sure you have everything you will need out on the counter so you don't have to try reaching for stuff. Wash bedding because there is nothing like coming home from the stinky hospital and cuddling up with freshly laundered blankets.
I can only tell you what really helped me.
    1. No matter how nervous you get tomorrow waiting to go into surgery, don't let your fear win! Remember you made this decision when you were very rational. You researched this decision and went through a lot to prepare for surgery. Last minute nerves are just nerves, not a reason to cancel surgery.
    2. Sip constantly. You likely will be unable to meet your Protein goals and/or your liquid goals for the first week or so. You need to not get freaked out about that, just keep trying. Just keep sipping and try to keep yourself hydrated enough to prevent being readmitted. It will take a lot of conscious effort to get in the bare minimum amounts of fluids in each day.
    3. Keep walking! It won't be pleasant at first and it will hurt a bit. That is ok, it gets better the more you do it. Walk as much as you can because it really will make you feel better and help you heal faster.
    4. Have a great and comfy recliner at home for the first few days. Laying flat isn't the most comfortable position. My recliner saved me and was my nest for a few days.
    5. Don't bring too much stuff to the hospital. You really won't use much of anything. I used: my phone, charger, extension cord, heating pad, Vaseline for my lips, toothbrush, toothpaste, and Biotine mouthwash. That is it.
Please keep us updated and we will see you on the other side!
