  1. JenSul I have done the same thing - then I have to spend the 2-3 days prior to my doctor's appointment watching everything that goes into my mouth so I can at least show a 1 pound loss for the month. I think it has something to do with our emotions - like eat it all now because after surgery you won't be able to eat any if this stuff (even though we know down the road we will be able to eat anything we want to in moderation).

I am trying to reign it in and some days I have more luck than others. Good luck :).

  2. My husband got me a Nike Fuelband earlier this year and I like it. I do not know how accurate it is but it tells me how many calories I have burned, how many steps I have taken, how much Nike Fuel I have burned and motivates me to up my fuel level every other week or so. It will tell me how many hours in each day I was active for at least 5 minutes of an hour and it will give me Move Reminders (I don't use this feature). It connects with my iphone and on my laptop/ipad.

I think you really can't go wrong with most of them as they are motivators to keep you focused on how much you move each day! Good luck with your decision :)

  3. Hi. I'm confused by everyones post referring to a liquid diet prior to surgery. I have not heard of that & that makes me nervous since my surgery is scheduled for September 17th. My psyche appt is next Tuesday & my preop is September 9th. The main reason I wanted to write a post is because I have to lose 10 lbs prior to surgery. I have in 3 weeks lost 7 lbs. So excited & proud of myself & even though this surgery has been a long time coming, could I do this on my own? I know the answer to that, but is anyone else having a similar experience? My family questions my choice & I'm looking for some support. Thank you, Sarah

I will have my surgery in October I hope. My surgeon is not requiring me to do a pre-op diet. So you should check with your surgeons office to see what they require for you. Good luck!

  4. You just gotta love moms! I am one myself and I hope that my children will always feel comfortable telling me whatever they want to tell me but I have to tell you that I am not telling my mother that I am going to have WLS. I don't want to worry her but more than that I don't want to listen to "the talk" about eating less, eating healthier, and exercising more. So I will have my sleeve done and then I will follow all that good advice that I just know she was going to give me :P

  5. Me! I do too! I just had my first visit with my surgeon today. I have to make myself do my everyday stuff and not spend every waking moment on here or researching WLS. I love reading everyone's posts and stories. Makes me feel like I am not so alone. Every step that I make that takes my closer to a surgery date is so exciting. I just can't wait until I have the surgery and can stop obsessing over it :)

  6. I met my surgeon for the first time today. My husband and I both really like him. He asked which procedure I was interested in and I told him I was leaning towards the sleeve and he agreed that this was a good choice for me. He spent all the time we needed answering questions and explaining things. His office will contact me tomorrow to set up an appointment for an EGD.

My patient advocate came in and talked to us after the surgeon left. I have to finish up my 5 month medically supervised weight loss (next week is visit #4 and visit #5 is October 16) and then they will submit to insurance for approval! PA said that my insurance company takes about a week to approve. After approval they will call me to set up a surgery date, which could be within the next 1-2 weeks (as I won't have to do do a pre-op diet). So conceivably I could be having my surgery by October 6!

This has been a good day :) Hope everyone else out there is doing well today!
