    Band was a huge mistake?

If he won't help you, find someone that will. It is not normal or healthy to be spitting up stomach contents constantly. From everything I have read, band is not the answer to long term weight issues and often results in serious complications. Good luck. You deserve to be happy and healthy.

Hi Emily Almost everyone =) search the topic on here, you will find plenty of lamenting and some in depth explanations about why it occurs. Usually lasts for about 7-10 days but can be longer Good luck girly

281 this morning. Blah, getting down on these stalls.
  7. Great work. I have had the unfortunate pattern of lose for two to three weeks then stall for 8 to 10 days almost my entire post op experience. When I lose its a decent amount however. My body is reluctant to let go of... itself errr its extra luggage. We can do this.

    Sense of hunger?

Very normal to experience sensations in nerves that have been severed because you have been having them your whole life. Additionally, a couple of things mimic hunger, the foremost being acid in your tummy. It's a great idea to take a PPI for the first six months after surgery to calm this feeling down but I still get very hungry myself, I just eat way less when I do. I was kind of hoping to never be hungry physically but we all have to negotiate between what is physical hunger and what is psychological or head hunger. Make sure you don't think you are hungry as opposed to feeling hungry.

How is a stall even possible?

Your body is designed to survive and when starvation occurs, it will convert stores of fat to energy yes, but even more, it will start doing things like converting starch to sugar. That is right, when you starve yourself which is what consuming 500 calories is, your body responds by slowing your metabolism and conserving energy. That also means you will eventually enjoy things such as hair loss and fatigue. Your initial weight loss is related to the loss of hospital fluids and the glycogen stores your body normally keeps in muscles for short term energy. When you lose that glycogen, you lose the Water that keeps it Fluid in your muscles. Your body will eventually rebuild the stores plus the water it takes to store it, hence a stall. Some people even gain weight during this time. Make sure to consume Protein and start upping your calories as directed.

    Anyone use protein shots?

Ask your doctor about GENEPRO Protein, I tried a sample from them of their ultra refined powder and mixed it in with everything from hot tea and coffee to Peanut Butter and cream cheese on a cracker. It literally has no taste and doesn't mess with the consistency of things, but I have a hard time buying that its protein content is as high as it claims. I haven't asked my doc about it yet but will see him in late December so if you see yours first, go for it. Try it out too, you can get a little sample pack from them for like 1.50 on amazon it has a lot of great reviews and only one or two not so great.

  15. Two things are happening right now. One, your stomach is a funnel for most liquids, including the thicker ones. Two, all the nerves that used to tell you when you were full, were just cut. So adhere to the guidelines set forth for you. The next few weeks will likely be difficult for you and you will experience hunger again. You wont get to feel real restriction until you are in coarse purees or soft foods so treat your new tummy well. =)

    Had surgery today

So normal guys. The first thought I had when I woke up.. and actually what I was yelling and moaning about in the recovery room was " IS THIS NORMAL ... CAN I HAVE A HEATING PAD" This was by far the most horrendous pain I have ever experienced and it was all related to gas. I had that level of pain for about a week, then slowly it faded over the course of the next two weeks by no matter how much I walked or moved, my gas bubble just lingered in my chest and shoulder area. Have someone do little karate like chops on your shoulder area and upper back to break up gas bubbles. As for the fluids, I would go with room temperature only. Hot and cold both have been known to irritate the new tummy. Don't focus so much on sipping as you do wetting the inside of your mouth and just swallowing the Water mixed in with your saliva.
  17. Yes...that is all. No really, these noises in the middle of class. My professor was actually glaring at me today it was so loud.
  18. Thought it be cool to give people more incentive to go ahead with WLS while still being honest about the things we unfortunately had to leave behind. Do your best... or worst. Miss you most - Drinking while eating... and bread - pretty much any kind, biscuits, rolls, cornbread, nom nom om... oh my God... Don't Miss You at All - Hiding my weight, feeling ashamed to walk into a room of strangers or meet new people, and size 26/28 pants... how embarrassing.

    I can eat so much.

CAREFUL! Even though you are in liquid phase and can't do much damage with just fluids, you have little to no feeling in that area right now because all the nerves are severed. So the same queues that used to be there to tell you how full you really are, aren't there right now. That being said, you really won't feel much restriction at all until you move into later puree or soft foods. Even most purees leave something to be desired and yes, that hunger feeling might sneak back up on you for a few weeks prior to moving over to soft foods. Just be sure to let yourself heal fully before you test your new tummy too much.

    I can eat so much.

Diva, I wouldn't listen to any surgeon telling you to not supplement yourself during healing phase of your surgery. Certainly not one that is disappointed with stellar weight loss like yours. For some of these guys, not all of them, it is a gimmick. Maybe they are used to people like me that had / have over 200lbs to lose at first and who drop it like bodies on the walking dead. Maybe your surgeon wants you to have to get a revision or something by trying to force you to eat everything rather than drink a little Protein. Do what feels right for you. I still supplement my intake with one premade shake a day just to be sure I get that good foundation in the morning hours of 30 grams of protein. If I didn't, I would have to walk around with a feed bag on all the time to try and cram all of it in the old fashioned way and I don't really feel like going back to past grazing behaviors on the advice of the person that is supposed to be supporting me in my weight loss. Try attending some support meetings away from your doctor to see what other WLS patients are doing. Most of us, at least as early on as we are, still supplement our protein and for good reason.

    I can eat so much.

Key words I noticed in your post - He said you CAN eat up to 1300 calories. That means, do not exceed 1300 calories, and I doubt he means on a regular basis. It is however, not that far off from most common goals that doctors set which is anywhere from 1000-1200 calories daily. The reason for this is simple, if you eat less than around a 1000 calories a day, your body starts to go into starvation mode and will refuse to burn fat because it is busy trying to store everything you put in it. The idea behind sleeve is to trick your body into feeling full with less food so that the normal metabolic process can go on burning calories and when it runs out, it pulls from your fat. If however, you body senses you are depriving it by say giving it only 500 calories, it will keep as much of that 500 calories as it can for things like breathing and well... living. If you are working out at least 30 minutes daily, you should be burning an extra 100-200 calories. 950 calories sounds fine if you are losing, but if you hit a stall, sometimes the only way to break it is to up your calories a bit so your body forgives you for partially starving it. Here is the weight loss formula of your body at its particular weight. You are currently at 222, I popped in an age of 35 for you because I don't know yours but with your height, scientifically speaking, if you sat there and stared into space and just breathed all day long. You would burn 1,780 calories/day*Just being alive and being yourself. Add in walking, cooking, standing, laughing, crying, sex, bathing etc.. and you can see you burn over 2,200 calories a day. To lose a lb, a person has to create a calorie deficit of 3500 calories. Usually, people try and do this by cutting out 500 extra calories a day X7 days in a week. That equals a healthy lb of fat lost for a normal person. You however, at around 1000 calories a day ish, are doubling that deficit and will lose about 2.5 / 3 lbs a week excluding stalls or times where you aren't feeding yourself enough and your body starts latching on to everything. Our bodies are built to do amazing things. Evil things, like... convert starches to sugar and to even break down our own bones when our blood Calcium levels get to low. In summation, 1300 is a touch high for what most doctors recommend, unless you have other issues like diabetes or hypoglycemia where you need to regulate some sort of levels in your blood. It is however, only a touch high. If you are having trouble fitting in the calories like I was, my nutritionist and surgeon suggested using full fat / calorie cheeses because it is a healthy fat, or wholesome no sugar added Peanut Butter / nut spreads.

    First bad meal post op!

Honestly, everything you listed there isn't bad if made relatively lean and of course, if you follow portion sizes. Burgers can be a perfect balanced meal if you make the little 2oz patty, wrap it in lettuce and use a pickle / touch of ketchup / mustard. I just avoid the bun. Pizza is actually a super food, you just need to eat very thin crust and make sure to have some meats and cheese on the top for protein. Likewise, I avoid eating a whole tortilla, but have loaded the right portion of cheese and beans / salsa on a very small portion of a tortilla and ate it almost like an open faced sandwich. I wasn't depriving myself of anything I wanted, just making sure I only ate what I needed as opposed to what I wanted. My doctor actually has pasta as a healthy carb in my meal plan, just once more, you need protein with it and of course you need it in a small portion and not very frequently. As far as questionable things I have eaten. I had a tiny small slice of my own birthday cake and honestly, it tasted okay. I didn't get sick from it because I am one of the fortunate people that doesn't get dumping from sugar. I didn't have this surgery to make me stop living my life, I had it to help me start living it the right way. My rule of thumb now... 55 lbs and two and a half months post op - - MOST THINGS in MODERATION. Of course I am not pounding down french fries and greasy Mc.Muffins any more, but by God, I can make a healthy alternative to that taco bell burrito and still enjoy being alive and doing the right thing by my sleeve. Good luck girly.
  25. Soaking in very warm baths tummy side down can be awkward but may help, also light heating pad in that area then just relax. Take a pillow in the bathroom with you and hug it against your tummy gently while you try and go.
