  1. Hi Shone,

That sounds really discouraging to go through. I am really sorry that you have gone through all that. I never really lost all that I thought that I should. I started at 243 and my lowest weight was around 170. I have since gained back 20 pounds but started weight watchers in October 2018 and have lost 10 of that. It is def a struggle and the surgery is not the magic bullet I hoped it would be. lol I have since heard about a procedure called the ROSE procedure that is like a revision surgery that I could have done, but I think it is only covered if you have gained back a substantial amount of your weight ( I have not) or you have another co-morbidity (I do not) . But it sounds like you could be a candidate for that. You should check it out. All in all, I am happy I had the surgery done. I feel better than before and I no longer have health issues. I do not eat like I should. But I never did, that is why I struggled with my weight in the first place. You are within your rights to seek another opinion. I still do not think that my original surgeon made my stomach small enough. I am still just plugging along like before, waiting to see what might help me in this epic battle with my weight! lol New stuff comes out all the time. Maybe the next thing will be better. Good luck and let me know how you are doing. God bless you. kim

  2. I had a massive headache in my neck and the back of my head post op in the hospital. I was absoluetly miserable. I thought it was the anesthesia ( I didn't take any pain meds. )But it turned out that it was from strain. I think when they strapped my shoulders down for the surgery, and then with the crappy hospital pillows, my neck got so strained it was killing me. The same day I got home I put a heating pad on my neck and the back of my head. OH MY GOSH!! What relief. I did that for the next couple of days and it took care of it. Honestly, it was the most miserable I have ever felt. You could try a heating pad and see if it helps. It certainly can't hurt, Best wishes.

  3. @@cmblackmon35, I think you are doing a fantastic job!! One thing I decided before I left the hospital was that I would only weigh myself on Mondays. That has been one of the smartest things I did. I don't worry then every day when my weight might fluctuate. One week I was down 2#, the next 1/2# and the next week 3! I try very hard not to worry too much and to concentrate on eating well and excercising. I have lost 30# in eight weeks and I am thrilled!!!!! Slow and steady means less sagging I hope. lol Keep up the good work. :)

  4. I am feeling pretty disappointed. Since having my gastric bypass eight weeks ago, I have lost 27.5 pounds. I am plenty happy with that. It's just that nothing, and I mean nothing, bothers my stomach. I can eat anything I want with absolutely no repercussions whatsoever. I actually chose the bypass because of the side affects it usually brings. I am worried that it will have a bearing on my future weight loss. Is there anyone else out there who is in the same predicament? How did you do long term? I am currently eating 900-1000 calories a day. I know that is a lot of calories for most people, but I am losing around 2 pounds a week, which is what my goal is. Does anyone have experience with this?

  5. I am almost 5 weeks post op. I have the same exact issue. I agree with JoeBravo. Just because you can, does not mean that you should. I decided one day a couple of weeks in, to check my calories for the day....not just the amount I was eating. It was a whopping 1,100 calories!!!!! Holy cow! I realized then that this was going to be an issue. I have tracked my calories since then and while I still eat more calories than most people at 5 weeks, I am losing. I also measure everything. So that way I do not overeat for my pouch. Also. Protein is very important. You need to find a shake that you can tolerate and drink at least one a day. Your health will suffer as well as your weight loss efforts. Best wishes.

  6. I am 10 days post op after GBS. I was allowed to start eating pureed yesterday and was so thrilled to be done with all liquids. I have already tried pureed boiled egg with Protein laced mayo....delicious. I also tried pureed roast beef with mashed potatoes and carrots. ALL these things being ok with my doctor. I have tolerated everything very well. That actually scares me. So I'd like to see how much others were able to eat 10 days post op. I am measuring my food because I am afraid if I do not I could overeat. I am still required to have two high Protein shakes a day. Any one have any clue how much I should be taking in or how many calories I should aim for? What did you do?

  7. I thought I would change things up yesterday and make a Protein smoothie with a little ice, plain Greek yogurt, skim milk and a scoop of powder, But it made such a large drink, it was not worth it. It's hard enough getting down 8 ounces of a Protein shake. oh well. Live and learn.

I am scheduled for January 21st. I start my pre-op diet today so i've been checking out the Protein Shake recipes in the kindle book "bariatric foodie" and their website, too. Everyone has such different preferences and they tell you how to make a shake thicker or thinner, smoother, sweeter, warmer, colder and by decontructing what makes a protein shake you can be creative and still "play with your food"! I'm just starting this journey but i'm having fun and since January 1 i've lost 10 pounds playing. My best to you all! Will stay in touch.

  8. My sister had surgery when she was 45. It put her into menopause. She was unable to lose all her weight. That was eight years ago. She has maintained a 100 pound loss and is pleased with where she is. I think everyone is different, But certainly, as women, age plays a part in how we lose, surgery or not. To keep things in perspective, I know that when I was weight watcher-ing it, I would have been THRILLED with two pounds a week. Especially if it was consistent and steady. Just starting my journey, but I, for one, am praying for a slow steady weight loss. Hopefully then my skin will not be as saggy!!!

  9. lol! You go @ @bellabloom! I personally do not believe that it is superficial to want to look your best. I was actually thinking that without the change in the outward appearance, I am not sure I would have done it and wondered if anyone else thought about it that way. I did not have a lot of health issues either. But did feel like that was a likely future......

That's a pretty interesting question. Personally I would not have had this surgery if it did not induce weightloss. My health was fine before surgery. The only things I had going on we're back pain ( which could have been addressed with physical therapy and will still need to be) and fatty liver, which from what I understand is not immediately life threatening. So rerouting my intestines just for a small fix on those issues wouldn't have been worth it.
My energy levels were poor and I felt very uncomfortable, but I wasn't going to die from that.

Why do people think, especially thin or average people, that it is so criminal to want to look better and be the most attractive people we can be? Why is there shame in wanting to lose weight, considering every American standard of beauty revolves around size?

Yes, you can diet. Just make sure it's the hard way, not the easy fix way or you won't deserve it. That's such an American mindset. Things don't have value unless they require hard work. Well they just don't know how hard this surgery really is!

My ex husband used to give me shut about the wanting to be thin all the time. But yet he hated my weight! It's like damned if you do, damned if you don't. The truth is that 99% of people want to lose some weight! And yet we aren't supposed to want to be attractive or we are labeled as superficial.

I did this surgery for the weight loss and the associated perks of feeling and looking better, clothes and shoes and dates and everything in between. I wanted my children to have a beautiful mom they can be proud of and my daughter inspired by.

It is a huge additional benefit that weight loss will also cure my fatty liver and help my back, energy levels, etc. But I wouldn't have found giving up eating for life worth the risk to fix those.

It's been painful as hell and I've now had two surgerys and five trips to the er for complications. But I still believe it was WORTH IT.

So maybe I'm a superficial person. But I'm going to be dancing at my sons wedding one day and have the energy to do it, AND LOOK HOT. :)

  10. Just wondering. i had my bypass last week. While I was in the hospital several of the staff said " you're going to be a skinny minnie." Now I know it's going to be nice to look smaller. But I had to ask myself, and now I am asking you........

Would you have had surgery if the only benefit were that you became healthier? That there were no size reduction at all? For me, I don't know if I honestly would.
