    Sick, hungry, headache

honestly I went two months on a diet of Protein shake for Breakfast Protein Shake for lunch and a big green salad with like a chicken breast or tuna mixed in for dinner and I weekend day I would have a turkey sausage egg and cheese on a croissant for breakfast and a turkey sandwich with light mayo for dinner. I was supposed to lose 16 pounds and I lost 32. you can do this.
  2. this question is the biggest single hot button topic on these boards . I wont take sides anymore all ill say is this, say whatever makes you feel good about you.

    Isopure OR Muscle Milk?

be careful muscle milk is not lo calorie, they do make muscle milk light however. I got a bunch of premier stuff fro free from premier so far I tried the chocolate and tossed it out halfway through yech, but that's me I wish I could ship the rest to people who like it. lol I have yet to try the strawberry and vanilla.

    Damn it all to hell!

So as you can see by my post title I am absolutely beyond angry. After doing so well busting my butt to do m pre op diet, meeting all these goals. it turns out my company is being bought out, so I and my surgeon have to push hard and fast to get my surgery in before the end of the year due to change sin benefits for the new company taking over. Well we submitted just before thanksgiving. I have Tufts Cigna Carelink, its a joint insurance through both tufts and cigna. Well they decided to deny my surgery today. Why you may ask? well they said I don't have 3 months of continuous care . Which is bull because I do. And they have all the clinical notes of same showing it. But my surgeons office says cigna pretty much denied every first try outright. So now I have a peer to peer with my surgeon and their doctor who denied my surgery on this Friday. Here is the real problem. Now if this process goes any longer all the money I have spent on testing etc all the time off, all the sacrifices will be for nothing because while my new insurance may indeed cover bariatric surgery ( its a BCS plan) It does not have my surgeon and team in its network list. Meaning I would have to start from scratch with another whole team. So I'm thinking of just blowing up this whole diet tonight....f&^% all the work i've put in, ....sorry im really almost overcome with anger, I honestly do not think I could do all this prep work again. and the new company would never give me the time off to do the surgery, they would make me file for FMLA leave which I couldn't do as I couldn't afford to be out of work without pay. So the whole thing would be one giant waste of time and energy. I am not normally a pity person, but I do not see a light at the end of the tunnel at this point in time. And if there is a light its likely to be followed by a train. sigh Thanks for listening.
  6. I had mine December 16th my appointment is Wednesday and the doc assures me I will be cleared for stage 4..aarrggh I cant wait. honestly only two things keep me sane. sugar free Jello, and the weight loss.

    Eating is hard!

I would also look at the single most important thing. It isn't what you eat , but how long you take to eat it. if that 2 oz of salmon took you less than 1/2 hour to eat then your just eating too fast. Try using a timer or watch take a small bite chew it to death then wait 5 minutes for your next bite.
  8. you can do it, just remember you kinda have to do it all over again after the surgery too. im on day 10 post surgery , the liquids driving me nuts. but I have to make it until Wednesday before I can get cleared for stage 4 and then finally something that isn't liquid. or pudding lol. so try to learn from what youre doing now as to what works for you because itll make it easier after the surgery. Yes you can do this.
  9. So im always concerned with the cost of shakes etc. So heres a great way to help. I wrote an email to premier letting them know I have a blog and I video taste test Protein shakes etc. So what did they do? They sent me the below items to try. Including their new smoothies which I wont be using for quite awhile but ill taste it for the sake of doing so. So free stuff is very good! I also watch a lot of auctions on EBay, and there I came across an auction no one had bid on for 9 fill shake and go bottles from about time, a new product that is really great due to its ease of use and the fact it only has 4 ingredients and a very very mild taste for all the flavors. So I paid a total with shipping of 8 bucks for 9 bottles. Merry Christmas to me. So there are ways to cut down these costs. Writing to these companies to get free samples is a definite way to help stretch your budget and find Protein Shakes you like.
  10. chronic I had a horrible migraine after my surgery my second day home literally brought me to my knees, my wife went to cvs and picked up a bottle of liquid Tylenol. Worked Great! they have adult strength now its a godsend, my doctor said it was a great choice for bariatric patients.
  11. Cowgirljane- I wasn't picking on anyone particular that's for sure. Just talking in generalizations. I have read many threads and know a few people who lose their old lifestyle to the point they forget who they were in becoming a new person. The sentiment of "why cant everything be the same with relationships" is impossible when you change the makeup of the people involved in it. I know of a gastric bypass patient who after doing wonderfully after surgery went on to change her entire life and become a personal trainer. Within a year she had alienated almost everyone she had been friends with prior to her surgery. The constant nagging of hey why don't you go gto the gym, or telling people " I can help you get into shape." along with other things like showing up to a superbowl part with a bender and ingredients for her favorite kale/spinach healthy smoothie as a potluck dish.. So I am saying that it is very probable that people can cause divorce not by the weight loss, but by the change in lifestyle, i.e. becoming that new person we all talk about. Ill give you the most basic change. If I, being post surgery now (I dream of getting off stage 3 lol) was to say to my wife that she couldn't have foods in the house, that I cant have ( she had French bread pizza for dinner the other night) by forcing that change on another person, I then become the tyrant so to speak. I change myself, but I will never force others to change to suit my change. that's all I meant.
  12. in talking with people, Ive seen a recurring theme, when one person make themselves into a new person its hard to expect the other person to change with you if they don't see the need. Ive seen bariatric surgery patients become health nuts, and try to force their new way of life on their partners or their friends and lose both , fast. Its like being a smoker and having a friend who quit they drive you nuts with their holier than thou attitude. Now they don't mean it, and they do not see it but they are overbearing and repulse the people they think they are helping. Translate that to a new lifestyle and it can easily cause relationships to fail. Its why I tell people, having weight loss surgery does not make them an expert in weight loss, in surgery or anything else. But many, do believe they are and try to change others. They do so with good intentions but it hurts and drives their friends and family etc nuts. This reason is why I have my wife involved in my weight loss heavily so that I don't forget how I got here. It is with the help and understanding of others combined with my drive, that I will succeed. I guess what it really comes down to is if we create a new self, can we truly be upset if someone else doesn't quite like that person.
  13. honestly I know ive mentioned ive done tons of protein drink video taste tests on my blog, but the syntrax nectar and matrix products are hands down the best. I wont use genepro because of the obvious lie they use. they say you get 30 grams of protein in 15 grams of product which as you canguess is not possible. Ive called them out on this several times and they just delete my posts so I know they are not being truthful. I like a few isopure ready made drinks, the black tea being the best period. alpine punch and prange are decent . my favorites now are the syntrax nectar vanilla torte, the syntrax nectar cappuccino and the syntrax nectar fuzzy navel, I found using 1% milk with shakes like vanilla cappuccino etc. but water with flavors like cherry, fuzzy navel etc.

    Been one week. Big changes.

I was the 16th, I had a meeting today with an np to look at one incision. but all in all i'm great no problems getting in my protein or liquids. one big headache once but nothing since. i've been off pain meds since my second day home, Im down 13 pounds since surgery and counting my pre op diet im down 43 pounds. My clothes fit different things I had been given as gifts years ago but saved cause they were too small, now fit. Im really enjoying the loss. I am hungry as heck and next Wednesday I am assured I will be advanced to stage 4 diet, but not until then. So today is my 44th birthday and I have a birthday cake flavored protein shake for dinner ready lol truth!, but alas no real food for my birthday or christmas, but This is my birthday present and Christmas present to myself.
  16. Hi all, I sit here in the dark, which Is helping some I guess, but I woke up this morning with a headache that crushed me. Im not a migraine person so it not likely to start now at age 43. But this brought me low, to the point I cried like a baby for it to stop. Im only 5 days out post op and I took some liquid Tylenol to help with the headache. it has helped and ive taken in 10 ounces of Vitamin Water in the past 3 hours as well. Im wondering, I thought I was getting in enough water 48 two days ago and 51 ounces yesterday, along with 69 grams of Protein, but has anyone had a massive headache that was dehydration. Another one of these and its off to the er or er clinic perhaps. Any help would be appreciated.
  17. Well thank you all for your help. y wife went an got me some liquid Tylenol which helped, im almost afraid to go to bed for fear of getting one of these headaches again. but cant do that forever I will contact my medical team in the morning. and looks like two of my incisions aren't looking great no fever though or oozing or pus, but still need to be looked at. One thing goes good then something has to go bad. but lets see. gnight all. Love you all, we are gonna win at losing!

    Sleep apnea and snoring

I have sleep apnea etc. ive had the UPPP in the past as well. I can say this according to my surgeons paperwork I have sleep apnea is reduced by 89% on average with goal weight loss.
  19. remember this you can have your hr person only know the truth, but in many many states if you lie about your reason for a leave, you can be fired for doing so and incur the expenses involved. But I know in many states you can say it is medically necessary. and nothing else. You do not have to give full disclosure.
  20. blerdgirl im doing ok, post op I cn get my Protein drinks in and liquids in okay, I have a few issues nothing over the top, they did a tac block on me after the surgery and I think the anesthesiologist assistant or student whatever stuck one eedle in the wrong muscle in my chest so now it feels like I have a arrow stuck through my chest to my back every time I take a deep breath or push to pass gas or burp. also it appears I have gastritis and the pains hit me frequently and really hard but I don't like pain meds because of my sleep apnea, the pain meds lower my respirations too much and I wake up with massive sleep apnea headaches. Just got to hold the pain off until Monday when I call the doc. Ive heard some over the counter help can be had from gaviscon, but I cant just arbitrarily do that without my surgeons okay. So if I can hold it together until then, ill be happy. thanks for asking.

    Alcohol?

My surgeon and nutritionist have told me no more alcohol ever, as in for ever , never etc. so im not sure why there is such a disparity of 3 months for some and me never and no im not much of a drinker never was. I like very good expensive wine, although it is very rare maybe once every two years I would have something like that. Ive been told that alcohol hits your bloodstream about 7 to 10 times faster with a sleeve and even more for a bypass so 1 shot is the equivalent of 7 shots to a non wls patient. weird that such a wide variety of treatment plans exist.

    No restriction

you may need to be specific, is that 9 days post op? or 9 days out pre surg? and what kind of surgery? sleeve, bypass, roux, lap band etc. although I wouldn't know how you could possibly take in 1100 calories in puree. unless you ate ice cream, or snack foods. and if you know you're eating bad things, then I have to ask. Why the heck are you eating them? Didn't you change you eating habits PRIOR to the surgery? Did no one tell you the surgery does not stop you from eating, and it does not keep you from eating bad things? Heck im 3 days post op on my sleeve and I know I could eat part of an ice cream sundae, or non sugar free chocolate pudding, or non sugar free Jello, etc. maybe some nice chocolate mousse with cool whip on top. but why would I do that? Im trying to lose weight and so are you. Im not yelling at you but these surgeries are not going to do it for you, YOU still have to make the change. I going to hope and ask if you could maybe seek out some counseling help either in group or with psychiatric help, to se why you're eating so much still. good luck , You can do this, Maybe you weren't really ready for this attempt at this time. This is a very hard thing to do.
