  1. Hi there. I have IBS, not IBD, so I'm not sure if this response will be helpful. When I eat per doctor's plan, I am fine. I still get flare ups from the same foods that caused it before, but with the addition of embarrassing accidents. I would still have the surgery had I known, but probably more cautious. Also when I'm stressed it kicks in which also leads to accidents. My sisters have both suggested I wear a diaper but I can't bring myself to do that. I hope this wasn't TMI, but I thought I'd be honest. Good luck!

  2. Hi! I'm almost 4 months out. I have lost 58 pounds, but I'm not sure how much I lost pre op, so that's total weight. I have 32 pounds to goal and am losing about 2 pounds per week.

I had a stall in October for almost a month then found myself grazing through the holidays! I think the grazing is so destructive for me. I took two weeks off for Christmas and lost 8 pounds! Apparently I deal with work stress by grazing! I'm happy to see the dramatic difference it was making.

However, I also dealt with a real long stall following the program as specified. I think our bodies go through adjustment periods. We may not drop pounds but we seem to drop inches. Either way I'm sorry you are going through this, but sticking with the plan will yield results! Best wishes on an end to your stall.

  3. Hi! I had my RNY on 9/22. HW: 268, CW: 208 Goal Weight: 165 5'10

Just wondering how your weight loss journey is going. I don't remember how much weight I lost before surgery, but I think I've lost 55 pounds since surgery. I've had a few stalls that lasted a month, lost some more, stalled some more. To be honest I wasn't sticking to the rules. Now that I am tracking, measuring, exercising, I'm losing again. I'd love to hear how you are all doing.

  4. Hi! I had my RNY on 9/22. I'm down 55 pounds. I stalled from Thanksgiving to about two weeks ago. I finally started to lose again. I began exercising and tracking my food. I seem to be able to eat as much as I want and only stop because I know I shouldn't. I'm never physically hungry but battle my head hungry chronically. I'm tracking calories, exercise and Protein, mostly without denial. It amazes me how I can try to fool myself about portion sizes and grazing doesn't count. When I really track, portions and every morsel that enters my mouth, I'm good. This surgery truly has been a gift from God for me, but it hasn't cured my obsession to food. I'm working on that one day at a time.

  5. I am taking three weeks off. My doctor said to take at least two weeks off, but that if I could take an extra week to focus on getting in my fluids and getting energy back, then I should take it.

great advice from your doc! Take the time! Figuring out when to drink, what to eat all takes time.

  6. Jessb418- I'm the same way! I'm happy when the scale goes down and really grumpy when it doesn't move! I weight self everyday. And the weight will set the mood. This isn't healthy. ???? We have to remember this experience is a journey.

I had such fears initially that I would be the failure who didn't lose weight and gained more! I read about the average weight loss, and worried the average wouldn't get me to my goal.

I'm in my third month post op, and while I still have irrational fears, I'm coming to terms with this process.

My sister is one year post, met her goal weight and struggles with maintaining. In other words, this our lives now.

Thin people also watch their weight. I've been paying attention to my "normal to thin friends' eating habits. They are pretty disciplined with an occasional treat. They workout, and occasionally get upset with a weight gain.

We got this! We're ok! And we will reach our goals! Hang in there. The scale is just a tool to help you gage your eating.

  7. I really cleaned and organized so all my hubby had to do was pick up. Then, our dishwasher broke!!! Ugh! I came home from the hospital to a mess of dishes on the sink. I went straight into my bedroom. My hubby hand washed everything and kept the house tidy my entire recovery. He mostly ate fast food. Our son lives at college do I didn't have babies to worry about.

My saving grace as a working mom is my Crockpot! I make Soups all the time, and roasted chicken, pork tenderloin, you name it! Meal planning ahead for the week is now my habit so we always have a healthy meal.

  8. I think that question, along with many others, depends on your procedure, your tolerance from surgery/pain, and most importantly...how you feel. I took two weeks off from work after having RnY. In retrospect, I think if I took it easy, I could have returned earlier, but my health and healing was most important to me. Even after two weeks off, it was still an additional several weeks before I could get through the day without feeling wiped out by midafternoon.

I agree! I had RNY and took two weeks off, but I came home from work pretty wiped out for about another. You will also want to think ahead about planning your meals and Water.

  9. I was just thinking about this. My resolutions year after year have been to lose weight, get healthy, etc. This year I decided not to make a resolution and stick to what I'm doing! I had RNY on 9/22, down 53 pounds, exercising six days a week and feeling great. I have 47 pounds to goal, and am filled with hope and optimism! Do what works for you, and may all our healthful dreams come true! ❤️????

  10. Hi Fellow Fabulous Fifties! I am 54, and had my surgery 9/22/14. I am 3 months out, down 51 pounds, 3 dress sizes and have energy to burn! I went from the couch with no energy to working out 6 days a week. I run/walks dogs everyday followed by at least a 30 minute workout. I am 49 pounds from my goal weight and am happier than I could ever express. RNY has been the best decision I have ever made! Like childbirth, the first two weeks are a blur. I continue to learn what I can and cannot eat, unfortunately, the hard way! But I have no regrets.

  11. I love this topic! I'm 3 months out and stalled right around Thanksgiving. I have lost 51 pounds to date, with 49 to go! I discovered I was grazing the work food buffet table was adding up to a lot of calories! Grazing is my enemy! Thanks to MFP, it made me face the truth. I think it is so important to be honest with yourself, accountable to yourself. A food and exercise tracker helps. I'm a big denial person, pretending the one bite of Brie I ate was fine. Oh, just a hand full of nuts, fine... And so on. That's what my weight fan has always been about, do I'm working on honesty and facing the music. My other issue, (at least food related), is accurately measuring portions. One cup looks like 1/2! At double the calories it makes a huge difference. My food tracker app is keeping me accountable and weight loss is back! Thanks for listening! I'm pretty passionate!
