The surgery guide my doctor's office gave me says that you can be extremely sensitive to smells for up to 6 months after surgery. One of the hints was to put peppermint oil on a handkerchief to sniff when you have problems with odors.

My nutirtionist emphasized that lack of Protein was the main reason why you lose your hair. She told me my goal is to have at least 75 gm of Protein each day.

The pre-op diet is tough! I'm on my 4th day of Clear Liquids and I cheated over the weekend too. I'm back on the wagon today and I could tear one of my legs off and eat it raw right now! It's easier at work because I have people watching me but I worry about when I get home tonight and I'm by myself. I MUST BE STRONG!

I had a hard time at first because I sleep with my mouth open (lovely!). I started with a nasal pillow which would have been pretty comfortable if I could just keep my mouth closed! So I switched to a full face mask covering both my nose & mouth which works better.

I called the insurance company yesterday and after a long hold found out that I've been approved! Should be getting the letter in the next few days. So I called the doctor's office and scheduled my pre-op appointment with him and they will be calling me to let me know when to go for my pre-op at the hospital. Surgery is scheduled for November 10th!!! I'm so excited. Even the lady at the insurance customer service could tell I was excited.
I've been getting samples of Protein powder to try for my pre-op clear liquid diet. Doctor requires clear liquid 7-10 days before surgery. My NUT said my tastes will probably change after the surgery.

I have some too but I'm not going to try it until I start my all liquid diet on Nov. 1st. I'm glad to hear that it really doesn't have a taste. I've tried the Premier strawberry and it was awful. I've heard the chocolate & vanilla are better but if the GENEPRO works, then I'll be set. I'm still set for Nov 10th. I have to walk at least 30 min every day. If I still get out of breath when I walk, then I will have to see a cardiologist. I think it's just because it's been so long since I've been active.

Funny you asked this because I just returned from the store with Protein Bars, yogurt (low carb/high Protein brand) and sugar free Popsicles. I just need a good Protein Drink now. My surgery isn't til 11/11 but I figure why not get started now!

I don't have my surgery until Nov. 10th but one of the things I worry about (in addition to gaining the weight back) is not drinking anything 30 min. before, during or 30 min. after a meal. It's just so natural for me to have a glass of tea or Water when I eat. That's going to be a hard habit to break.
Livsmum--you're my new idol! You look great. I'm about 40 years older than you but I want to be slim again! This will be my time to succeed!

Just kidding--I love that they both want to take care of me but I was a single mom from the time they were in early teens so I learned to be independent--too independent they think! It does help that they both have nursing degrees and one is working as a home health nurse. So I'll have awesome help in my recovery.
