    Super excited!!!

your mastiff is gorgous!!!! I wanted one so bad but was scared of slobber. Do they really slobber alot? We have a 5 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback who is like our first born child, spoiled rotten, loved deeply.
  2. I just celebrated my 6 month bandiversary and I have lost 50 lbs so far. The weight loss is slow but steady. It is taking longer to lose belly fat, like you said but it is coming off, slowly. I have gone from a sizw 22 to a 16. I am actually losing more inches then lbs and it can get frustrating looking at the scale, try not to, too often, it really starts messing with your head. The best advice I can give you is, Get Rid Of the Crystal Light and anything else that has atifical sweeteners in it like aspertame and splenda, there are numerous reports out with studies that show that they cause you to gain weight. They trick your brain into thinking it is getting something sweet and then you secrete insulin and the insulin has no glucose to bind with and then the next thing you eat turns directlly into fat. i don't eat or drink anything with that stuff in it. PS, I hate PCOS too,
  3. I started lossing my hair at the 3 month mark. I lost about 30%of my hair. I went to the DR. and they said that it was from the lack of nutrients right after surgery, the first couple weeks when your on liquids and mushies. They checked my blood for any defiencies anyway and everything came back normal. My hair fell out for 8 long weeks. I got a hair cut which seemed to help but eventually my hair stopped falling out, all I took was a multivitimin.
  4. I just celebrated my 6 month bandaversary and have lost 50lbs:thumbup: I am down 4 sizes and I feel great! This was the best decision I have ever made.:wink2:

    Ready to Give Up! (rant)

First question, are you exercising? I actually get more restiction after workingout, and loose much faster. If I hadn't been working out I won't have lost very much at all. Question 2, are you drinking with meals? I know I can get just about anything to pass through quickly and feel really hungry agaIN if I drink when eating. #3 Are you eating protein first? I am hungry all day if I don't eat protein first. Lastly, Are you drinking anything carbonated? That will strech out the band and defeat the whole thing. Good luck, I hope you find restiction, I can see how you would be frustrated.
  6. Hi sister-woman, i don't have to take insulin, my pancreas functions just fine:) your body can actually function normally with half a pancreas. The lap band surgery will be a walk in the park compared to the kidney transplant. Once you go through a huge surgery and recovery such as yours and my surgery not much phases us.
  7. Not quite the same but I had had 1/2 my pancreas removed and a bunch of intestines, and transplanted intestines put in and I had my band placed in Feb. I had to have an open surgury instead of laporscopic but all went well and am having great results. good luck

    opinions on weight loss rate....

Hi Diva21, I was alot like you, I loved big portions, I could eat a huge meal and be hungry an hour later. The band has curbed my appitite big time. I eat about a quarter of what I use to. I have had 2 fills since I was banded in Feb and am do for another in Aug. The secret of loosing steadily I think is 1) exercise, you must do it if you want to loose steadily, if I don't workout I only loose like 1/4 to 1/2lbs a week. If I do I loose 1-3 a week. 2)You should keep a food journal, this helps me be accountable for what I have eaten. 3) Don't drink and eat at the same time. This is tough for me, but it pushes the food right through and you feel hungry again right away. Hope this helps.

    Stress and the band

this defenatly happens to me. my food gets stuck and I usually PB when I get stressed out and eat. Not a good combo. The same thing happens when I workout and then eat within a hour of exercise.

Gall bladder removal before lap band surgery

I had my galbladder removed 5 years ago and don't ever recall having any dietary restriction.
  12. My best advice to you is Don't be scared. This is the best thing I have ever done. I wish I had done it years ago. I know it can seem overwhelming and all but you will not regret it in the end. I had a more intense surgery than most people here, I had an open sugery and was out of commision for 3 weeks, (this was due to a previous surgery) and I would still do it all over again. The feeling of being healthy and lighter is the best in the world.
  13. All that fat free and low fat is poison. there are so many more chemicals in them it's not funny. They have artifical sweeteners in them which are extermely determental to your health and will sabbotage your weight loss. and a lot of them have hydrogenated oils in them which are trans fats which will clogg your ateries 10 times faster than saturated fats. I eat the full fat version all the time. As long it is in moderation it shouldn't be a problem. Like you can't go and slather on a tablespoon of butter on to your toast or anything just a dab will do ya.
  14. Is anyone taking d-chiro inostitol for their PCOS? Is anyone have good results? I plan to start taking it soon. It's suppose to help with all the symptoms of PCOS.

    Help

LAST NIGHT I HAD CHICKEN FOR DINNER AND IT GOT REALLY STUCK. I SPENT THE NEXT 6 HOURS PBing. IT FINALLY ENDED AT AROUND MIDNIGHT. THIS MORNING I WORK UP IN PAIN. IT HURTS TO EVEN DRINK WATER. I'M HOPING THAT I AM JUST SOUR FROM ALL THE PBinG. BUT I'M SCARED TO THINK THAT THE BAND SLIPPED. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE? SHOULD I CALL THE DR RIGHT AWAY OR SHOULD I WAIT TO SEE HOW I FEEL IN A LITTLE WHILE?

    Hair Loss!

I was banded 2-11-08. My hair started falling out about 7 weeks ago. Lots of hair in the shower, in my brush and all over me. I went to the nutritionist about 3 weeks ago. Blood tests were all normal. She said that hair has a delayed response to the surgery. Since we had surgery in Feb and were malnutitioned then our hair is just falling out now. My hair has loss has slowed in the past week, a good hair cut helps too
  17. Hi everyone, Gena from Ct here, My 4 month anniversary was 6/11/08 my starting weight was 276 and I am do to 235, 41 lbs gone forever!! I have had 2 fills and have 5 cc in an 11 cc band. I actually cancelled my last fill appointment, I am still very tight from my april fill.
  18. I was not given liquid pain meds, They gave me pills. I was told to crush them up. I started off on percoset and then to vicodin.
  19. I'm going through the same thing. i had my 2nd fill almost 2 weeks ago and have been extremely tight. The Dr told me if I had the symptoms that you are having to call right way. Sounds like you are too tight and need some fluid taken out. My situation isn't as bad as yours, I can get liquids down but solid food has been a challenge. I haven't call the Dr. because when I went for my fill they told me that they were so backed up with patients that I would have to wait 12 weeks for another fill instead of the normal 6 weeks, so I rather not have them take any out and then be stuck for 12 weeks being hungry, but in your case I would definatly call you Dr and let him know whats going on.

    PBing after workouts

I was wondering if this is happening to anyone else. In the past 2 weeks, everytime I come home from a workout and eat within 2 hours of that work out I have major PBing problems. I can't keep any food down, not even liquids. The rest of the time I can eat whatever I want in modest amounts. I will be seeing my DR. for my 2nd fill on Wed. so I will ask him but just wondering if anyone else has had similar experience

    Body Bugg??

Yes I have the watch. The watch tells you right then and there all you stats, calories burned, steps taken, how many mins of activity, for today and yesterday , also what your target calorie burn for the day is, how many cals a min you are burning. If you don't have the watch you have to wait to be at your computer to get all this info. As for sleeping, the manual says that you should wear it to bed for the first 2 days and after that it is up to you. If you don't wear it to bed it automaticlly just assumes that you are burning 1 cal per min while you sleep, I have actually been really burning between 1.3-1.7 cals per min while I sleep, so I have been wearing it to bed, cause I wakeup in the morning with a higher number than I would if I didn't wear it.

    Body Bugg??

I've had my body bugg for a week now and I LOVE IT!!! The way it works is, you wear it on your right arm and throughout the day it senses and records every single calorie your body burns, weather you are sittting down or running up and down stairs with laundry, doing dishes, everything is recorded. It also records how many steps you have taken and it tells you how many calories a minute you are burning. They have a website where you down load all your info onto and you then record what you have eaten throughout the day. it then tells you how many more calories you have to burn or what you can and cannot eat to meet your daily goal to facilitate your weight loss. It has alot more too. It is very motivating, I don't think I have ever been so active in my life. Its like a game I'm playing and want to win. How many calories can I burn... So far this past week I have had a calorie deficit of 2200-2400 a day, that like 3/4 of a lbs a day. And let me tel you the weight and espeacialy the inches are coming off.

    Exercise doesn't equal weight loss???

WOW, I can't believe a nutritionist said that!! The more you move your body the more you burn calories. The more muscle you build the more calories your body burns at rest. I know its hard to get into an exercise routine, I still have days where I don't want to but you feel so much better after you do it. I probably would only lose 1/2 -1 lbs a week if I wasn't working out which is totally unexceptable to me, I had this surgery cause I'm hellbent on lossing the weight. Working out I lose 3 lbs most weeks. And the BodyBugg helps a ton. Good luck

    Bodybugg users report here!

I LOVE MY NEW BODYBUGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the best money spent ever. today is my second day with it. Yesterday I took 18,000 steps and burnt over 3500 cals. I had a cal deficit of 2300 cals. This info is priceless. it is so motivating.

    Exercise

I work out 4-5 times a week. I do the treadmill 45 mins and try to do at least 15 mins on the ellipitical. I also do strength training once a week with a small group and personal trainer. I hate excercise, I have to have a pep talk with myself everyday. Once I'm done with the work out I feel great. The way I look at it is, It would be pointless to have had this surgery if I'm not going to workout and put my all into it. I'm seeing remarkable results from the workouts, I wouldn't be losing 3 lbs a week without it, my band isn't very thight right now, only have had 1 fill, so I can eat anything I want, which is scary.
