    Meditrim anyone?

Just wondering if anyone has tried the Meditrim shakes? I can't stand the Optifast shakes or Soups. Don't mind the Tony Ferguson but am finding that they are now giving me the runs. I don't want to buy more shakes that are unpalatable. Has anyone tried them yet? Cheers

    midband vs. lapband

I had the midband put in. It does not require stitching to stay in place, hence less chance of infection> The theory behind not stitching it in was that it pulled less and fewer slippages have occured. My doctor has done both but now sloely does the midband as he has seen less post op complications. As far as fills etc it's pretty much the same. Good luck.

    Back on Liquids

Thanks Carrot for your support. I've made it through 2 days now, one more day and then I'll go to mushies. Can't wait. The protein soups I am using are giving me really bad tummy pains and gas. So I'll be glad to be on anything else.

    Back on Liquids

Well today I decided to get serious about the post-op diet. I found that I could eat anything without any difficulty and so I did by about day 10. Yesterday I read why you should stay on the diet even if you can eat ( thanks WASabubblebut ) and decided that I should get serious and not wait till my first fill. Who knows if I have already streched the pouch by eating all the wrong things. I thought that when I have the band it will stop me from eating as I would get full quickly. I didn't realize that it may need to be adjusted a few times before it is at the right level for you. I have a lot to learn! Ok, this band is a TOOL not the miracle answer. So I'm commited now to going back to the beginning. I'm going to do liquids for 3 days just to get my body into fat burning mode then do mushies with lots of Protein to ward off the never ending hunger for as long as I can. And of course work with my head hunger. I find that's the most difficult! I have also booked in my first Aquaerobics class for Monday. I was doing it for 6 months prior to surgery for my aching joints and it really helped. I have the ok from the doctor to go back in the Water. Couldn't go in till now due to risk of infection. I can't wait. Hopefully by the time I am at 80kg I'll be able to do some gym work as well. Here goes. New commitment, wish me luck!

    Noticing self more?

I haven't noticed anything yet. I still see my sister looking back at me when I look in the mirror. She's always been bigger than me but as I got bigger I started to look like her. I can't wait to see my face again. LOL Well done carrot. Keep up the good work. You're inspiring!

    Gaining weight??!!! WHAT?!?!

infamy what a great example. I hop on the scale a few times a day. I don't get depressed about it anymore as I know it varies so much but if I hadn't grown a thick skin it would do my head in. I weigh first thing in the morning, naked after I have been to the Loo and then again after my shower. I'm sometimes 3 pounds heavier. What? I have made a new promise to myself that I will only weigh in on Monday morning now otherwise it could sabotage me. If I satrt to feel hopeless It will become a self fullfiling prophecy! Good on you for changing your mind set.

    Wanting to eat more.

I hear you. I'm in the same boat but didn't even try not to eat and stay on the mushies. I've eaten bread with peanut butter, corn chips. All the stuff I shouldn't. I read a post by WASabubblebutt yesterday that refocused my attention and have gone back to stage 1 on the liquids again. I'm going to have to rely on willpower, which I have little of to get through this next month till my first fill. From what I've read here there seems to be 2 groups those that have a lot of restriction and sometimes too much after surgery and those of us that feel they can eat anything. I can't wait till I'm at the right level of restriction.

    One week post-op update

I'm 3 weeks out now and back to normal activity. Feeling good and no pian anymore. Except in my left shoulder form time to time and I know what that's from! Naughty me! I'm back on liquids today and intend to stick to the post-op diet for a few good weeks.

    What have I done?

That's a question that I believe many people have. I know I did before the band. What am I doing!!! Will I ever be normal again. Why ME? All the negative self talk comes out. I now am 3 weeks post surgery. Feel great, can eat more than I should but that is temporary till my first fill and am feeling that I made the right decision. Hope you start feeling better soon. Cheers
  12. Thanks, I think I had better go back to Liquids for a while! I like to know the scientific reason for doing it. The reason I stuck to the pre-op diet was because they said it make surgery easier and safer. It was not mentioned that if I didn't stick to the post-op I could stretch the pouch etc... This makes sense and perhaps it will be easier to handle now. I'll put up with the head hunger for a while if it will benefit the outcome longterm. This has been very helpful to me.

  14. Thanks, this is an interesting post indeed. I did some research but not nearly as much as what you have listed. I believe I went into it a bit blind. The pre-op and post-op diets and reasons are interesting. When you get a chance please post your thoughts on the theory behind the post-op diet. Many people here are just newly banded and like me can eat solids now and are doing so. I'm trying to be good but when you are hungry all the time you give up. I'm currently waiting for my first fill before I take it more seriously. Wrong I know, but if I had willpower maybe I wouldn't have needed the band! Cheers

  16. $85 to ship to Australia. That's ridiculous! I love PB so perhaps I'll look into getting a friend in the states to post it here. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Who still has steri-strips?

I took mine off after 2 weeks. I was really itchy and couldn't stand them anymore. I was red raw under the strip. The incisions have closed over but the scabbing the strips have left behind are still irratating me. I wish I had pulled them off earlier.

    lap band vs gastric

After doing some research and also knowing 2 poeple who have died having the bypass it was an easy decision. The lapband is adjustable, induces satiety (when filled correctly, still waiting for that) and very importantly is reversible. If you find you cannot tolerate it you can unfill or remove it. You don't lose any of your organs and the surgery is minor compared to bypass. You absorb nutrients from food so it's rare to get malnourished. I have heard of problems with the band but they are generally able to work with you to correct these. The bypass is permanent and not adjustable. I hear you lose weight rapidly the first year but by year 5 many people have started to gain again. Only you can decide what is right for you. Do your research ask questions and make the decision that suits you and your situation best. Cheers

    Goals!

Hi Judy, Thank goodness I can't eat as much as before but I can eat normal foods. I had slices of toast this morning for Breakfast. I haven't had my coffee yet as you're supposed to wait 30 mins before drinking. I know I could but I don't want to wash everything through the band (if it's not there already) so I can hopefully stay satisfied for longer. I'm not too fussed at the moment, I was really worried at first and thought the band was not going to work for me. I know though that when I get filled I'll get the level of satiety. I tend to graze all day but don't eat choc or ice cream so once I'm filled the band should stop me from eating as much as I will feel uncomfortable. All the best.

    Banded 18 days ago

Hi Brenda, i had the sore left shoulder too. The first 10 days it was daily. I haven't had it for the last few days. I just used a hot pack on my shoulder. The book my dr gave me listed it as one of the common symptoms, Apparently you get sore if you overeat as well.

    Anyone Else 5'1-5'2"??

Thanks, I loved the clothes over there but at this size I wouldn't order anything online as it's hard to know if it will fit in the right places. Once I get down a bit I'll order some stuff that looks safe! Especially the stuff made for short people. Unfortunately the larger sizes here don't come in petite (I know a contradiction of terms) for height so it's hard to shop at times.

    Some called me skinny ....

That's fabulous, I can only imagine how great that would have felt. Get used to it! I'm told that it happens a lot when you bump into people who haven't seen you for a while. Enjoy every minute!

    Goals!

Good idea Amy! How many minutes per week were you advised to do? I'll have to ead my notes again, but I think it was 200 a week for me. I have bad knees so do aquaerobics and can't go in the Water for another week. Will try to do some slow walking in the meantime.

    Goals!

I really need to have a goal and a few people keeping an eye on me. I can eat most things in larger quantities than I should right now. Will be getting my first fill Dec 3rd. Ok, so my goal for the next 5 weeks is 10 pounds. I know it could be more but I'll have to use willpower till my fill!!!
  25. Hi Kim and welcome. I'm also from Oz and was banded on the 2nd of this month. I'm not from NSW but look forward to hearing how you go and getting to know you. Cheers and all the best
