    Hi from England

Hi Kitty, I'm new too. Banded 2 weeks ago. Tell us how you're going.

    Banded 18 days ago

I'm in the same boat as both of you. Banded 2 weeks ago. I haven't had the grumbling stomach but have had grumbling bowels! Hope that stops soon. I've been on solids for the last few days and feel I can eat most things now without restriction. Although I put that to the test last night and paid for it today. Even tough you feel you can eat more don't! It's awful after a certain point. Looking forward to your journeys.

    Surgery in 12 Days

Well done for staying on track today. I can certainly relate to the emotional eating part as I'm sure many here can. If we could get that right who needs the band! Have a great day again tomorrow. If you feel like eating come and chat to someone, go outside for a walk anything to get your mind off it.

    Newbie from Oz

I was banded up on the Sunshine Coast by Dr Baxter. Look up Midband for the french band. The site is really poor though. If you can read french then there is an online community you can go too. I know of 3 bands the lapband TM, the swedish band and the one I got. I went with this one because of a number of reasons, less slippage and post op problems being the most important ones for me. I was so scared to do this and then encounter problems as well. Also my friends ex-company were the ones that brought them over so I asked heaps of questions. As they are still new here not many people have had them yet. thousands in france though. Good results. I'm on solids now, was off liquids 3 days after surgery. I'll keep you posted.

    Anyone Else 5'1-5'2"??

I wear 20-22 Aussie sizes. Last year when I was in the states I could fit into 2X clothes. Hoping to get into Size 10 Aussie soon. Does anyone know what size 10 in Aus is equivalent to in the US?
  6. Definately where I want to be in a few weeks time. Well done!!!

    Surgery in 12 Days

Here, here! My thoughts exactly. I have a friend who went on one of the liquid diets for 6 weeks. Was thin but wanted to be thinner. She couldn't understand why I didn't just do what she did. Well 6 weeks would get rid of 10% of my problem. I'd have to be on them for a year and who can really face that!

    Surgery in 12 Days

Absolutely, after the op is a lot easier because you are tender and can't eat too much too quickly. I was only on the liquids for 3 days after op. Then went to thin mushies/ homemade Soups. They too are easier because they taste better. Today I feel sick:sick, my own fault. I was feeling hungry and felt that I could eat anything so last night I had a binge. Bad choice. I'm paying for it today. I will be more sensible from now on and eat only a cup of food instead of pushing the boundaries and making myself ill. Live and learn.

    Surgery in 12 Days

Good question, I set it last night and haven't moved it yet. I think you have to click on the ticker and you can reset it but I'm not sure if you have to cut and paste into your signature line again. I'll find out soon. I did the pre-op for only a week beforehand. It was torture. I really hate those shakes. The dietition said that it was to shrink the liver before surgery so it would all go more smoothly. Hence the extremely low carb for rapid loss. I figured that chicken was Protein so I ate a few chicken salads instead of the shakes. It didn't help that we were all on holidays and were out some nights for dinner. I know I shouldn't have but I couldn't help it. As you say one day at a time. Do the best you can. It's only a few weeks right?
  10. Keep busy beforehand. Took my mind of the awful shakes I had to have for pre-op. Afterwards take it easy, get plenty of rest and sip Water all day so you don't dehydrate. I gulped it down a few times and boy did it hurt those first few days. Good Luck!!

    Surgery in 12 Days

I was banded 15 days ago and can now pick up my 16 month old. Have been able to for the last few days. They said about a week after surgery would be fine but I was erring on the side of caution. Good Luck with your banding.
  13. All the best with your surgery tommorow. Hope it all goes well.

    New and Nervous

Good Luck, since I am downunder the process is a bit different here so I can't offer advice. The only thing I can add is I wish I had done it earlier. I sat for far too many years watching from the sidelines.I'm glad you are doing it while your kids are young so you can enjoy them. Make sure you have help with the kids those first few weeks. My youngest ins 16months. He wantes to be picked up and cuddled. Dh and the older kids can feed him and change him but there's nothing like a cuddle from Mum. That had to be the hardest as he needed to be comforted at times. He had gastro last week, 10 days of banding for me. It was a nightmare. Cheers

Well, let me retract some of my statements! I thought I had no restriction at all. I was eating sensibly but more than the allowable 1/2 cup at this stage. But last night I pushed the envelope! Boy did I feel it. Even now 12 hours later I still can feel the fullness. I'm glad I did it because I know there are limitations to my band. I will have to be careful over the next few days and then settle into a good eating regime. Chickie, you're right there are DRs everywhere that can fill. I wanted the first fill to be with the Dr that put it in first. After that I'll go in for a checkup with him once a year as we holiday up there every sept holidays. If in need a fill in between I'll go to someone here in Melbourne. Anyone know of a good sympathetic Dr that isn't harsh? That's the last thing I need right now while I'm getting my head around all this.
  16. Hi Everyone, I have been reading furiously over the last few days since being back from getting my Lapband. I was banded on the 2nd Oct 07 after many years of yoyo dieting, successes and failures, ups and down, highs and lows. I just couldn't get my headspace right and knew that if i didn't get banded I would just keep on eating. I'm 5 ft tall and 95kg(209lbs) and can't move freely. I have arthritis in my knees and get tired so easily. I look at my kids and feel so guilty not being able to live life with them. I look in the mirror and hate what I see, so now I have to change once and for all. Hopefully I can find support through this journey here as I know I won't get it from my never been overweight friends that stop eating for a week, lose 3 kilos and are happy! They have no understanding what it's like to be in this body. Looking forward to reading more of your amazing and inspirational stories.

    Hello....newbie from aus

I posted on the other thread about food. But in a nutshell (don't get upset) but I was off Soup on day 3! The first few days I felt a stabbing pain in my chest when I drank anything including Water. It was so hot and I couldn't drink. I went for my follow up on 5th and told the DR. He said it's either just tender and will go soon or it's heartburn. It went a couple of days later. No pain since. I was a bit sore but ok in general. Since I was up in sunny Queensland with DH and 3 kids we went out every day. No time to sit down and rest. I just wasn't allowed to swim in case of infection. Also not allowed to pick up baby till now. Saw my friend yesterday whose husband had it done a month before me. She couldn't believe how well I had bounced back. Her DH is still ill. Not having a good time at all. My only issue is that I don't feel restricted at all. Will wait till my fill and see how I feel after that! Botht the dietitian and Dr said you can make your own soups, so if you hate the packet ones make a couple of big batches, it helps when it tastes alright. My favorite is pumpkin and chicken soup. Really good filler and tastes great.

Hi Leeanne, I was on soup for only 3 days. With the french band you go to mushies on the 4th day and then semi solids on day 11. Full diet after 3 weeks. One more packet soup and I think I would have been sick.Only problem is that I can eat anything I want as the band obviously needs a refill. After day 5 I felt no pain when eating and was hungry. So I eat! I go for a top up on Dec 3rd and I can't wait to get that full feeling and not feeling hungry like others have achieved. Thank goodness I read through a lot of posts and realized that for some you just don't get that feeling till they find the right fill for you. Once I've been adjusted a few times I hope to find a doctor in Melb that can do it as I don't want to fly to Queensland every time I need a fill.

Hi Leeanne, Welcome to the lapbanders. We'll pretty much be doing this together. Interesting to see what ups and I hope not too many downs we go through.

Hi Mandi, I'm new too and I can certainly relate to your story. I'm sure it's similar to many people here. In fact I feel that you told my story but add on a few more losses and gains and another dozen years. Ahhh the yoyo diet! I finally took the plunge and got banded on the 2nd of Oct. I'm in my 40's have 3 kids and don't have the energy to keep up with them. Good luck with what ever you decide to do. I am actually from Melb but flew up to Queensland for my surgery. The doctor uses a new band from France. Apparenetly there are next to no slippages with this one and the port is smaller and less intrusive. I had heard all these horror stories and I decided to reduce the risks as I'm such a chicken! Looking forward to hearing your story.
