  1. I buy ketostix at Walmart. It takes me 48 to 72 hours to get in ketosis. Once in ketosis the carb cravings for me go away, but if you eat sugary carbs, watch out, the cravings come back with a vengence. I stay under 30 carb/day. If you look at the nutrition forum, there is a subforum called low carb bandsters.
  2. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 12 years ago. I only had periods once or twice a year. I struggled with weight gain, infertility, amenorrhea, facial hair, and fatigue. My band has saved my life.... I am almost 1 year out and have lost 86 pounds. I have to agree with the carb thing. My weight loss for the past 3 months has been pretty much nonexistant. I low carbed during the first 6 months post band and then decided to start taking in carbs again. Bam...weight loss stopped. I am low carbing again and beginning to see the scales move. I really do think that there is something to carbs and PCOS not mixing well. Anyway, I am 11 months out I have normal periods, lots of energy, 86 pounds gone, my sex drive does exist now. I still have problems with excess hair, but I dobt that will ever go away completely on its own. I have begun laser hair removal. And believ it or not I am getting my tubes tied this month. That is just wild when I have struggled with infertility for so long, but it would appear that I have become fertile again, but we have 1 bio son and adopted 1, so we are not planning to have anymore. I say all that to say this, YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Yes PCOS sucks, and makes it harder, but not impossible. Cut out carbs, exercise and log what you eat!!
  3. i'm in. I am having ps on the 24th, so I will only be in until then. My goal is simple. I want to run everyday!! Yesterday I ran/walked 8 miles. I won't do this much everyday, but I want to at least do 5K daily. I MIGHT take Saturday off, maybe not.
  4. I'm staying on plan today because I am finally in ketosis!! The carb cravings are gone and I want to keep them that way!!

Ok, DH plays the guitar. He bought me a tshirt that says, "Support Local music, Sleep with a musician." I wore it Saturday and went to the Barbeque place. The owner said, "I play in a band, and I sing lead vocals. That should count for 2 shouldn't it". OMGosh I was so embarrassed. That would not be considered PC, but neither would my tshirt. I guess I asked for that one. DH was beaming with pride. I was beaming with embarrassment. I must admit though, the compliment felt dang good. A year ago he definately would have ignored the shirt. A year ago DH wouldn't have bought me the shirt. Oh how my life has changed!!
  6. I am positively happy because I ran 8.2 miles today, divided in 3 runs. I positively could not have done that a year ago, or a month ago for that matter. WOW! This band is an amazing tool, but more than that, we are amazing women for choosing to use it!!!
  7. Lyn you are way too funny. Ok, I am definately obsessing a bit with this Nike+ thing. I am doing a challenge with Whosya, and I have never liked being beat by a boy, so I am running, running, running. In the last 3 days I have run a total of 12.87 miles. Today I ran 8.2 miles divided into 3 runs. My average mile is 10:27. 8 miles in 1 day. OMGosh, my legs are really tired and my house is a mess. I am going to be cleaning until DH gets home at 9:30.
  8. Thanks Karey. I agree completely with all you said. I did not have any problem when my band was placed. I know I will be out longer and that increases risks somewhat, but I am just not going to let myself go there. I have chosen to have this surgery. I do not have any "impending doom" feelings. I do not think I will die. I think I will wake up in pain. The pain will be really bad for 24 hours and then very gradually get better. I have really high pain tollerance. I had a csection and was in the shower less than 12 hours later and out and about within 2 days(my son was born on Dec 20, and I made it to all the family gatherings). Again, everything has risks. Thanks again. I know dad is just being a dad. I am soooo ready to do this!!!
  9. Way to go georgia!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. I am definately a different person than I was aa year ago. I love who I have become.
  11. I'm having PS on the 24th, but i will hang with you guys through the 23rd! I love to run. Yesterday I ran 5K. This morning I ran 2 miles at the track and then 5K on the treadmill (Had to leavet he track because the wheel on my son's jogger stroller came off during my run!! OOPS). I Really want to lose a few more pounds before my surgery. Thanks for starting this. I need to be consistant.
  12. I'm staying on plan today because I stayed on plan yesterday. I want to lose 10 pounds by the 24th. I know it is possible if I stict to my low carb plan!!
  13. OK, need some reassurance here. Tonight my dad, who is a hospital administrator, said that I should really rethink having all of this done. He said that I will be under for way too long (probably about 6 hours). blood clots, etc. I am a nurse and I know the risks, however, I keep telling myself that I have no comorbidities. I run 3 miles at least 3 days a week. My resting heartrate is in the lower 50's. My PS said this week that I am probably the healthiest I have ever been. I eat right. I take very good care of myself. Did any of you ladies experience any anesthesia problems? You know, this fear is always in the back of your mind(even when I had lapband surgery). I just choose to expect the best, take good care of myself, and not worry about the rest. I want to look as good as I feel, and I feel pretty dang hot!!! Anyway, just needed to vent. I am so ready to be awake and done with this surgery. There are always risks in everything we do.
  14. Mamato, So sorry you are having such a hard time. You know from being a nurse that long term illnesses are ften harder on the caregiver than the patient. I am not surprised AT ALL that your psychologist is concerned about you. An antidepresant is not the end of the world. You know, you may be suffering from situational depression which is brought on my things in life that just stink. I am not saying that you should take the antidepressant, but don't quickly rule it out either. You will be able to finish your weight loss goals at some point, but for now please, please, please take care of yourself. You are so stretched. BTW, Don't think that we are always up and perfect. Believe me, I am not dealing with anything like you are having to deal with, and I gained a pound in the last week. We all have times when we are more motivated than others. You will get there. I'm so sorry. I am such a fixer. I wish there was a way to make it better, but know that you are always welcome on this thread. Good or bad, we miss you when you are not here. Hang in there!!

Kat, I find that since I have lost weight, I am the one pointing out the hot chicks myself. Too funny. I am totally heterosexual, but good looking women are just pretty to look at. OMGosh, did I just type that!! Definately not PC.
  16. Karey, You "totally" crack me up. You sound like you are going to a party. Actually, I understand. I am totally excited, too. 23 more days for me. I just can't wait to have a flat tummy. I still can't invision it!
  17. Your surgery is the day before mine. What an exciting week we will have. I am all excited and nervous all wrapped up in one as well. Can't wait to see/hear about your progress!!
  18. Yes, she is doing MR(muscle repair??) on my abdomen.
  19. Kathy, I love mine. I thought it was pretty inexpensive too. You have to have an ipod to hook it up to, or you can purchase a wristband. I think it is $50 something. Also, I have heard that you don't have to have Nike+ shoes, but I don't know. I paid 117.00 for my shoes and the nike+. I needed new running shoes.
  20. I guess I am hyper today, but here are pics of my dear fam his weekend at the land. Do I not have 3 of the most beautiful guys you have ever seen. DH is especially a hottie. LOL. And yes, kathy, that is THE 4wheeler that we are sitting on. Maybe that's why we are grinning so big.
  21. Ther eis so much more to it that I haven't figured out yet. Training, goal setting, coaching, music downloads. I am just getting started, and am not real computer literate. It may take me years to figue it all out. I bought a bodybugg months back and hardly use it because it is bulky, and the subscription is $15 a month. This was $30 plus the shoes and there is no monthly subscription. It is most amazing. I am definately hooked. Now what to do with this $300+ bodybugg. If I sell it teh purchaser would have to pay over $100 to set up an account with bodybugg. I don't know. maybe my mom can use it (she was banded on Monday).
  22. Yes, when it is higher that is when I am running. You can roll your mouse over the little dots and that tells you what pace I ran that kilometer at. Then you can also click on details beside my username and see the details of my run. Total run time, average mile, etc. As you can see I ran longer in the beginning and then pretty much did intervals the rest of the time. My goal is to work back up to sustained running for longer. SInce moving to the outside heat and hills I have done more interval training than true distance. I still get the distance in but this graph will help me to stretch out those runs again. Pretty cool, huh?
  23. Kathy you look amazing!! With that red jacket, they would be crazy not to hire you!! I just finished 5K at the track. It was hot. I waked/ran it in 33:58 minutes. That's a far cry from 29, but I know I can't expect to do that everytime. Also, DS was with me. We did very well. I am going to try to post the link from Nike+ of my run today. I know I am going on and on about this, but it is just way too cool. If you go to nikeplus.com see if you can look me up. My user name is Renewedhope. Here is the link of my run... http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/?l=runners,runs,339670081,runID,1614227165
