Top 10 Bariatric Post Op Mistakes

@@WL WARRIOR Thx for the response. I currently take a chewable calcium citrate twice a day (from vitamin shoppe) & 2 flinstones multivitamins. My next Dr's appt isn't until the end of April. But I'm hoping my bloodwork makes it unnecessary to continue with all the calcium. It's tedious trying to time all these vitamins throughout the day!
  2. @@lclemur Did you have issues with depression prior to surgery? If so, please touch base with your therapist. If this is a new development, try to put things into perspective. Im sure you did the research on the surgery, was informed by your surgeon what all it entailed, and read on these boards or others. You have a lot of knowledge...don't let emotions make you forget what you've learned & the reasons why you chose WLS. Make a list of everything you know about WLS & your reasons and refer to the list often. You just need to gain a little perspective back . Your going to be fine!

    Guess What?!

@@Nikkidoodlebug I'm so sorry to hear about this. I'm glad that they found the cause and hope you feel better soon! Take care! I have had the drain on a couple other occasions for Thyroid cancer. While they look weird/gross...they didn't hurt and the surgeon removed mine without pain. The drain helps with keeping the swelling down so you can heal faster.

Does your new stomach feel normal?

I haven't felt any differently with my stomach. Up until I first felt restriction, I questioned if the surgeon even did anything. My stomach area feels the same, so I'm not sure what you mean. Maybe you are hyper aware of your new tummy because of knowing what the surgeon did? Which isn't at all unusual. I've had surgeries for athletic injuries and it takes awhile to get used to the fixed area again.
  11. Even though my body's hunger signal pretty much disappeared after surgery, I knew that I needed to eat and that I had to try. This isn't about wanting to eat...you need to to eat to live. You need to try and if eating is too much for you emotionally or physically, please talk with a professional.

    Blender Recommendations

I have a Ninja. Got it on sale at my local supermarket. I love it. It is so easy to just blend my shake, put the lid on and go

    Any regrets?

I lost 60 pounds prior to surgery. I learned so much through my nutritionist and I took his words to heart. I had a BMI of 31 the day of surgery. I felt great prior to having surgery and my PCM called me to tell me to stop taking my meds. So why did I have surgery? I wanted to keep the weight off for the rest of my life. It wasn't about the losing weight component. I wanted to be in that 50% of WLS patients who keep the weight off for good. I definitely wanted out of that group of the 99% who through diet & exercise alone end up gaining the weight back and then some.

    Panic!

I've had 14 surgeries for different things...and I'm still here
  16. I'm sure surgeons hear questions and concerns on stalls too many times to count...probably the reason for the non scientific response. Btw, It is not a stall if you are shrinking/losing inches...even if the scale hasn't budged.
  17. Good luck to you & I look forward to welcoming you to the losers bench. Make sure you let us know how you are doing!
  18. What matters more than others opinions is our own views of obesity and WLS. Our own beliefs are mirror images of our loved ones beliefs. If we do not take the time to learn about obesity, research the why's of WLS, and take time to explain to loved ones in a comprehensible manner...then we are part of the problem. It's easy to throw away others opinions...it's much harder to look at ourselves and where we fit in to the problem.
  19. Most insurance cover the sleeve here but I have tricare and they don't cover it.Are you near a military base? I have Tricare also, but got my sleeve on a major military base without any problems.

    It's about to start

How awful. Family is supposed to support not tear down. Your family obviously lacks understanding for you but also for this disease. It's your choice whether Its worth educating them. But many people truly have no idea that obesity is an actual disease. Even people who have had WLS. And it is incredibly sad to feel ashamed or guilty for something that goes way beyond and is more complex than simple willpower.

    When are the "typical" stalls?

My weight fluctuates/stops/starts all the time, since before surgery and PostOp...I've read on various medical sites that the body is not in a stall if it is shrinking, even if the scale stops or fluctuates. So I'm done with my scale until my next appt (End of April). I'm just going to measure weekly and follow my program.

    It's about to start

I get all your feelings but the ashamed part. While you have a few days, research the disease obesity. How can we be ashamed of having a disease? I certainly wasn't ashamed when I was diagnosed with cancer...
