    Bandages for how long?

I didn't have a drain. And my incisions are covered with dermabond. I was told to just leave them alone and let them fall off by themselves.

    My weight loss success!

    Wow! What a transformation!!!!
  3. You were motivated to get the surgery, which means you were motivated to jump through all the hoops to qualify for the surgery...I think you need to give yourself more credit. Sometimes motivation is a strong overwhelming feeling. Other times it is so quiet that it seems dormant. Irregardless, it is still there. Usually tends to show up the more we make the right choices. Follow your surgeons plans and if you haven't received enough info...Google it. There are some great plans from medical professionals on the net. Oh and I had the surgery 12/16
  4. Southern food is difficult. Maybe broiled catfish/red snapper or 1/2 cup mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes or 1/2 cup black eye peas, baked chicken... But yes, I think you should still go, it will make you feel more confident that you can handle eating out. I went to ruby Tuesday shortly after surgery and asked them to strain the soup of the day. They were very accommodating and the soup was delicious. More importantly, I enjoyed feeling normal and eating out with my family.

Is your surgeon aware that this is happening? if not, please call. You will feel better after talking with a medical professional. And I'm two weeks post-op and haven't experienced that symptom...

    The Dreaded First Stall...

I had my surgery on 12/16...just two weeks ago and I have stalled. I'm not surprised, I actually expected it to happen awhile ago. I lost about 60 pounds prior to surgery, but was pleasantly surprised to lose 14 more in the past two weeks. I'd be happy to lose 1-2 pounds every couple of weeks as long as I reach goal by summer . So, I'm just going to keep chugging along with protein, exercise and following the food plan. I kind of want to get rid of my scale but my husband is attached to it!

    Pre op diet frustration!

Typically your body will have a difficult time maintaining a losing weight for a long amount of time. It has to stop and think so to speak. You have over eaten for so long and your body has a great memory. All of a sudden you aren't introducing no where near the amount of calories you have in the past. Initially your body loses then your body enters starvation mode. It is a survival mechanism that kicks in and stores fat/water/etc..kind of like hibernating. After a while...could be days or weeks, the body adjusts and realizes there is no danger and you will lose again....until the next time your body thinks it's starving again. It is incredibly hard on the mind...sigh

  14. Seems to me that you are already setting yourself up to fail while waiting for your surgery. If you believe this about yourself, are you okay to have this surgery? I only ask because who's to say that you will follow the rules after getting the sleeve? This surgery is no joke & you can put your life in danger if you engage in binging/vomiting. Please don't get me wrong, I am not judging you in any way. Just trying to understand where your head is at. Hopefully you will bump up the number of sessions that you see with your therapist. Rather than just throw in the towel and continue these behaviors...

    Not Losing much weight.

You've got to work. My surgeons basically said the first 20-30 lbs are free. The rest you've got to work for. Think of WLS as just one leg of the stool. The other two are exercise and good food choices/quantities. By your own admission, you are missing the other two legs of the stool. Get up, and get moving. Doesn't have to be 30-45 minutes at a time. It could just be 10 minutes 3xs a day, then build from there. Regarding the food, stick with choices that are less than 15 carbs, less than 5 grams of sugar and less than 5 grams of fat. Limit yourself to a few ounces at a time and record using My Fitness Pal App. Go to work.

    Dumping syndrome any advice? ?

Okay, will do. And I really want to eat deviled eggs!
  19. Oh, ok. I'd definitely let her know my personal story, how I qualified for surgery, the steps it took to get it, and how my life and eating habits must change for life. I would also bring her to one of my support meetings so that she can see & hear others' stories. Next, I'd suggest she talk with a physician...who will also explain the above and probably refer her to see a counselor and nutritionist to help with those 20 lbs. then I guess go frm there.

    Dumping syndrome any advice? ?

Hey @@MyssJones ! Thanks for the suggestions. I'm actually on the full liquid phase so I'm able to have Greek yogurt. I kind of just lick my spoon and let it turn into liquid before swallowing. Seems to work . I really want to eat some cream of wheat and oatmeal. Someone else on here said the dream of wheat felt really heavy in their stomach....but I'm willing to give it a try since I love it that much!!! I'll ley y'all know how it goes next Wednesday!

    Dumping syndrome any advice? ?

Yep. I find it weird too. My surgeons are very conservative and it's sometimes hard reading that others can eat/drink different things. But, I'm not mad at them..just jealous
  22. I have a hard time answering this question. I cannot tell if someone is 5, 10, 25, or 50 pounds overweight. Seriously. But, let's say for arguments sake that the person has been fighting for the same 20 lbs for the past 20 years. And he or she truly feels in any way as bad as I've felt over the years about their body. Who am I to judge whether the person simply needs outpatient/inpatient counseling, meds. or surgery. I am a librarian not a medical professional. I'd leave it to the professionals to decide what's best.

    Dumping syndrome any advice? ?

@@Joy889 Nope, surgeon requires 2 weeks of liquids post op....so I get to try puréed foods on Weds. the 31st. How about you?
  25. All about perspective. Assumptions were made. Which is why I asked the question, "how do you know a person's Before, During, and After Journey?" How's it possible that one can look at a person in a waiting room or look at someone's board posts and question their decision for weight loss surgery. That is what the OP did in both of her posts....in my perspective
