Pre-Band
kathystrick commented on kathystrick's blog entry in The random rants and raves of a slowly shrinking divaI am really getting tired of saying that..."pre-band" I don't think I will EVER have insurance approval!! But it HAS only been about 10 days, so I really have no right to complain. Some people wait a lot longer than that! My pre-op diet is going MUCH better! I have lost 10 pounds already! Having a hard time with food the past couple of days. I think I just need to get my head screwed back on right. Work has been chaotic because of testing, so lunck schedules are messed up and I have been spending all morning in someone else's classroom, so hoefully that is part of it and it will get better next week. I sure hope so! I don't want to step on that scale Monday morning and see a higher number!! Went to my first support group meeting here in town last night. Only 4 of us showed up, but it was the first time, so it should get better. The only problem is that after next month, the meetings will move from Wed. night to Mon. night and I have to work! That really took the wind out of my sails because I was SO looking forward to being able to attend a group locally!! I'm going to try to work something out if I can. Afterall, it is only 1 night per month. We'll see I guess!

New to this..and getting all the negative remarks
It is hardly a "quick fix" either. SO many people say that regarding any WLS, but that statement actually only shows their ignorance about what success with the procedures entails. You will find that a lot of us don't tell people we are having surgery and the negative comments are the very reason, for me at least. But as IndigioGirl said, it is YOUR life and YOUR decision. Ultimately, the only person you have to justify it to and make happy is yourself. I was at a support group meeting last night and the comment was made that from the time you decide to have surgery and on through the course of your weightloss, you will lose friends, some you have had all your life and some people will even lose their spouse because they can't handle the changes in you. She said you have to know that when you make the decision for surgery and be prepared to deal with it. Good luck!

Hi I'm new
This section is a good place to start: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f213/. It's the FAQ section. You've already posted your introduction, so that's good. Also, look at the sections on Doctors and Hospitals to see if there is any information about yours and this: Minnesota Lap Band Support - Lap Band Talk Forum - The largest forum for Lap Band Surgery Discussion and Lap Band Surgery Support is the link to the Minnesota support thread. Good luck and hope this helps!

One Day Post-op
Sorry you had a rough night. I know what you mean about that chiropractor...very addictive and nothing like it for that pain. Hope you get to feeling not quite so uncomfortable soon!

Grr. Email etiquette.
How about the use of "professional sounding" email addresses? As someone who also works in education, I have a hard time responding to an email from a student with an address such as, thickandsexy69@emailme.com. Not very professional looking when you are corresponding with colleges, jobs, etc.

I have a complaint!
That was Geometry for me. I could not grasp the concept of these letters and numbers making this graph. WTF??? I scraped by with a D and a lot of pity from the teacher. The kids now use school provided graphic calculators. I thought using a calculator was cheating??

Brand Names Folks
My surgeon is using the Lap Band right now, but should also be offering the Realize by the time I am ready for surgery. He said I will be given the choice of which to get, but that there really isn't any difference. I am thinking I will go with the Realize simply because it has what he referred to as a "low profile port". He said it is flatter and easier to access.

1st appointment scheduled!
Once you decide to make that first phone call, the process does seem to speed along...until you are waiting for insurance approval. Then time once again reaches a standstill.LOL Good luck and keep us posted!

First Doctors appt. A year of commitment. Am I ready ?!?!
Congratulation on your decision Anne. You have a great attitude! When it all seems to be too much, just think, "Where will I be in a year if I don't do this?" Good luck to you!

The process
First off, educate yourself about surgeons in your area and have one in mind when you go to your PCP. He or she may not be knowledgable about the bariatric surgeons available, especially if you have to go out of town to find one (that was my case). Then, the surgeon usually requires you to attend their information seminar before you can schedule an appointment. Hope I have helped. Good luck!

afraid to give away "fat clothes"????
The one thing I think everyone should keep from their "fat days" is their favorite pair of pants so that once you're at goal, you can take a picture of yourself standing in one leg of them!

Hi, Everyone....I think I'll be the contrarian voice here...
My doctor and his staff have done the same thing. At every turn it is stressed that the patient is still ultimately responsible for how successful the band is. Glad I have the surgeon I do!
