I just don't think it will amount to anything....correct me if I'm wrong, they are still practicing no...anyway, whatever...I have no agenda....I'm done! To my knowledge Kuri and Huacuz have not been to trial yet. I am unaware of Almanza being arrested, just that his recovery homes were shut down. The plastic surgeon has been to trial and he is in prison now. Another bariatric surgeon (not in TJ) is also in prison, actually... 7 of them are. Not all bariatric surgeons though, for organ trafficking. In the US their med mal pays out, in Mexico they go to prison AND their med mal pays.

Dr. Kuri has been arrested by the federales. Dr. Huacuz has been RE-arrested (the first time it was for a botched plastic surgery he did, this time it is for his bariatric lack of skills.) And a 3rd surgeon, a plastic surgeon has been arrested. Dr. Almanza had 2 recovery homes shut down by the federales due to a fatality and illegal drugs. You really need to open a fogging book, do a google search, know what you speak of before typing or you continue to show your agenda and lack of basic knowledge. As soon as I figure out how to close this account, I will stop posting, I assure you.

I have what I need. I You have to get down to basics. How much does it cost the surgeon to do a surgery. The cost of staples alone is astonishing. The cost of the hospital, the cost of paid and trained staff.. you can't do it for $3500. It is impossible. Surgeons that do cheap surgery tend to use black market supplies, veterinary equipment from China, etc. You get what you pay for, that is the bottom line. You want cheap surgery? You take risks. We are talking common sense here. Yes, I had read about the staple expense thing, so I did ask about the brand, etc. and asked about it locally (I work in healthcare consulting.) My surgery was $4500, which yes, was cheap. My local quote was over 18k. I'm no groupie and definitely am not looking to add any more drama to the fire, I just wanted to know if you had specific examples of cut corners so that I could talk to dr illan and my pcp to see if I should be worried. ' Now..... do you honestly believe a surgeon using veterinary supplies or black market supplies will come clean with you? Seriously? I am through with this thread. I am through with this site. I do believe you have forgotten your own words. You claim those who go to Mexico are just trying to save a few bucks. Most people in the US have no bariatric insurance. They either go to Mexico or they sit at home and die of obesity. I would caution you to be careful when you choose your words. You have done this repeatedly lately.

Shall we discuss affiliations? Board certification means someone passed a test in their field of specialty. I find it nothing less than amusing that nobody has brought of the fact that Mexico has board certification in bariatrics and is Dr. Illan board certified? Why no, he is not. If your Mexican surgeon is not board certified in bariatrics, do not go to him. It's really basic common sense. Something that is clearly lacking in this thread. Who would want to be a bariatric surgeon and not board certified? I'll tell you who. Someone who has yet been able to pass the darn test! I know that these organizations' names sound impressive. But they are not certifying or licensing organizations. Instead, they are professional associations -- which doctors may elect to join or not. Yes, they sound lovely -- and I'm sure they do add value. However, having these letters after your name mostly means you enjoy socializing with other doctors, that you may have (little p) political aspirations within your profession, and that you and your spouse would like to take a tax-deductible vacation annually at wherever these organizations hold their annual convention. Again, I'm not dis'ing the organizations. But doctors join them voluntarily. They are not mandatory in any way. Nor are they required by any medical licensing organization. They are professional / social organizations. These organizations are similar to the American Bar Association (for lawyers), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (for CPAs), and the American Institute of Architects (for architects). Board certified is the exception to the rule. Are the letters required to preform surgery? To "preform" surgery? No. to "preform" safe surgery, yes.

Groupies have no need, they just are. They typically have unhealthy relationships in all aspects of their lives. Yeah, I have to call you on this one. The economy is bad in case you haven't noticed. Many go to Mexico for very safe surgery so they might have a chance to live their lives. Shame on you for downing basic medical care. Feel free to graze, hundreds of thousands of people to go Mexico for medical and dental care ANNUALLY. If you had a choice to go to a good surgeon in MX or die, what would you choose? Seriously, stop being an ass. It doesn't look good on you. Oh okay I thought it was based on fact. I checked and every surgeon listed with Kaiser WLA had MD after their name. Maybe its different in other places or locations. I guess that is a good selling point for surgeons if you have to solicit patients. Seriously? You really don't get it? MD means they graduated from college. The rest are affiliations. I would damn sure hope Kaiser surgeons graduated from college. GAWD!

Does anyone else wonder if "Thin MAN" or BWhite is really Omar? if you reread some of these posts it is almost bragging, not defending. I'm still left scratching my head trying to figure out who is real and who isn't. Sooooo, are you a lawyer or a judge? Which one? Illan made a fully informed choice to hire a known gang member, felon, with a known history of taking advantage of vulnerable women alone in a strange country for major surgery. He knew Omar had been fired for this very behavior from another surgeon. But hey... Omar can get him $$$ so who cares about the patients. It's the bank account Illan cares about. Sorry, I don't believe this. Merely being in the country illegally is not something they put you in prison for and call you a felon. Are you sure his GANG affiliations had nothing to do with his prison time? The taxpayers have paid dearly for him, I hope he rots in Mexico. You were in a hotel in TJ after surgery so you were a patient. It's not like you went to TJ to visit him, you were a patient. Question for you, what other Medical Ethics are okay for Omar to disregard? I mean, the rules don't apply to him so what else shall we excuse regarding Omar's behavior? Bingo! Medical Ethics does not just apply to the doctor, it applies to the entire staff. The doctor is merely responsible in the end. I think it is clear that the doctor is aware of this behavior and he's doing nothing about it. You can like him as a surgeon, heck, you can credit him for your own hard work in losing weight. It does not make it right to allow this to continue when you ladies have the power to do something about it. Put the screws to Illan to fix this problem! Be the solution, not the problem. I would hope ALL these women file formal ethics charges for these behaviors. If not, you are only helping him to continue the behavior. So far the women I have seen that are telling their stories are taking partial responsibility for their own actions in these incidents. Being a responsible adult means fixing our past errors, not pretending like it didn't happen. Let's see what Illan is *really* all about. Prove to us that he actually cares about patients.
