prrite got a reaction from pik in RNY - how are you feeling?
RNY - 7/21/14. -35 lbs in 25 days. Struggled with hospital onset Pnuemonia immediately following discharge. Other than that, no real issues. I did the Water thing, 3 ounces every 30 minutes til I got 60 ounces or so in. 3rd week, i began eating soft foods, pureed, and still continue to do so, about five 3 ounce servings throughout the day. I usually treat myself to a sugar free Jello, pudding or ice cream bar just because I can. I've been walking on average 5 to 6 miles a day since August 1st. I've dropped from 2XL clothes to L. My energy level has increased and difficult walks are not so difficult anymore. As far as the food intake, I pace myself and don't drink while eating. Constipation is not an issue....however, not having that much in the stomach, really doesn't require a bowel movement a day. I go 4 to 5 days in between. Sorry, some of you are having issues with the recovery - but you can and will get through it. Be patient. Don't give up and do as your doctor instructed. In the end, you'll be tickled spitless you did this. I am. God Bless and Best wishes to all! Phil

prrite got a reaction from pik in back in the hospital
    Hey Pik,
Seems you and I have been fighting the same battle. I had surgery on 7/21. No major issues, used pain meds slightly and was release on 7/23 to go home. at 10PM the same evening, I broke out in a fever, chills, and overall felt like crap. Called the Doctors service, and he called me back in 20 minutes. Told me to take some pain medication (since it had Tylenol in it), and come see him in the morning. They did a chest xray and said I didn't have pneumonia, but there was some Fluid build up in my right lower lung. On 7/25, I began Water hurling, at 9am. Went back to see another Dr. in the same office and they ordered a CT scan to be sure I didn't have pneumonia. At 5 pm, I received a phone call from my Dr, saying I had "borderline Pneumonia", he called in an antibiotic which was just short of butt nasty when crushed. After hurling several more times during the evening, I went to the ER where I had my surgery and they admitted me to give me fluids and antibiotics. They too ran a CT scan. Yet, a 3rd Doctor from my clinic came and released me from the hospital on 7/26 after 18 hours in the hospital. Today, 7/28, I'm feeling much better. I walked 3 miles, keeping my liquids down and have dropped a little over 10 pounds in a week.
From what I hear, it is not uncommon for the lungs to collapse and fill with Fluid during surgery. That's why they have you use the spirometer to open your lungs. I told them, it's a great tool, but if you feel like crap, one cannot do that treatment every hour like they want. It may be my own fault, but lord knows I tried. Best wishes to you in your recovery!

Unfortunately for you (fortunately for those of us just starting) yes, that is what has happened. No more 6 month medically supervised diet program. Yes, you may have wasted some time and $$$, but look at is this way, at this point you should be able to get a surgery date asap and approval should be a breeze. The rest of us still have appointments like psych eval and NUT before we get that close. Sorry you had to go through it, but can't say I'm not thankful it's happened for myself.

    @Dawn....
I wasn't given any amount to lose. However, the NUT said that one "typically" could lose between 8 and 40 pounds. I'm not sweating it. I'm actually tickled to see this come off now....it's just that much less I have to lose later! Don't stress to much over it....115 hours - (8 am 7/21), we'll have different issues to deal with. Just remember,as a master of cliche's....Rome wasn't built in a day, and time heals all wounds. Stay positive - you got this!

Did your doctor tell you that you had a certain amount he wanted you to loose? I was told 15 lbs and I too am on my 10 day and lost 10 lbs...
I have my final all weigh-in on Friday, I doubt I will meet the full 15 lbs :-(.
    Maybe 12?.
I have been having my 3 Protein shakes a day, some cooked broccoli or asparagus and broths. Still wish I could loose the full 15.
    Good luck!

Woohoo! Got the go-ahead with no special cardiology release needed - the afternoon of 7/21 I'll be a post-op bypass patient and will be a big 'ol loser, can't wait!
Good luck to you all - we'll all be losers together!

    Hi Misty and Pik,
I had my gastric bypass yesterday and it went great. I have none of the nausea, cramps, or excess gas that was expected. I took GasX thin strips and I believe that helped a lot.
I got up today and made 10 laps around the surgery corridor and didn't feel much pain at all. My stomach is sore now but just feels like I have done a lot of sit ups. I'm so glad it's over and I'm on my way. I lost almost 10 lbs on my pre-surgery diet. So I will be counting down from 221. My beginning weight was 247.
Good luck to you and hope your surgery goes as easily as mine. Once I got to the hospital I was completely calm. My hubby was a nervous wreck though until it was over.

    Hey Prrite...
I am on my 7th day of the liquids. I am allowed a very little bit of "greens".
I have been having a little broccoli and arugula. About every other day, just a bit.
Just think...this time next week - it will be over and we will have been given a DO-OVER!
    Best of luck to you!

Hello all. 7/21 Surgery date also (RNY). Day 8 of the pre-op diet. Down 6.9 lbs so far. First couple of days were not well, but managed. The salads and vegatable trays helped a bunch....at least I was convinced I was eating solid food. The GNC total lean Protein shakes are a blessing also. Best wishes to everyone and I've enjoyed lurking on some of the other posts and find this site to be very informative. It's great to be able to see how people have dealt with and managed their changes and I hope I can learn and apply some of the experiences shared here.
