Dr. Duncan did my surgery as well in January 2008. I have been very pleased with my care. Yes there were areas that could improve but, overall very pleased with physician and surgery.

I too had over 200lbs to lose. My doctors tried to encourage me to have the gastric bypass only because the weight loss is quicker. But, I feel I have done extrememly well. Lost 86lbs in 5 mos. I really don't see how much faster I could loose it. I really think it is a personal decision. Look at all of the options and then choose what seems right for you. I am very pleased that I chose the Lap band and did not let my doctors influence my decision. Good luck.

So manyof these stories sound so familiar. I have broken my bed twice, broken several chairs, not to mention the fear of breaking every chair I sat in @ 384lbs. I was sooo unhappy being fat. So much humiliation. Will never forget the day the bed broke. My husband was wonderful and said it was not put together good. Maybe not, but 384lbs on it did not help either. This weight loss has been great. I already feel like a new person. I already see a person coming out that has been locked inside for many many years. I have always been overweight. I still have a way to go, but I already see myself as a new women. Non-scale victories are GREAT!!!!:smile2:

Down 84lbs as of yesterday which was 5 mos bandiversary. I have been trying to loose 1/2 lb so I could be @ 299lbs for the first time in many many years. I have been fluctuating 2-4lbs for the last week and still have yet to get to that 299 mark. I will make it very soon I know. This experience is awesome. It feels sooo good when someone says how good you look. Everyone keep up the good work.

What I seem to miss the most is the ability to take a "BIG" bite out of something. These tiny bites sometimes drive me crazy.

I too am very glad I chose the Lap band. My doctor also tried to encourage me to have the gastric by-pass because of the amount of weight I needed to loose (200lbs). I have lost 78lbs since my surgery in January. I don't think I could have lost it any faster with the by-pass. I have several friends who chose the by-pass and have also gained some or most of their weight back over the years. I do not see that being a problem with the band as long as I do my part to maintain my fills, etc. Good luck in your decision and either way, you will be glad you made the decision to change your life.

I have had 2 fills and can eat all of the above, very carefully. I only eat the topping of a pizza and then a couple bites of the crust, but at least I am eating pizza. Steak, I am very careful. Small bites and chew, chew, chew. I love steak and I really miss having that big juice ribeye. If only I could take a big bite. But really, I don't miss it. I have made this change and have accepted it. Hamburger is much easier but still must chew carefully.

I too am almost off my BP med completely. I have lost 73lbs and noticed after about 60 lbs my pressure was really getting low. I now take 1/4 of the prescribed amount about 2-3 times a week. Mainly for the diuretic effect that it has. Can't wait to be off completely.

People really started noticing me about 3 weeks ago. It is really funny though, some people look at me strange and say I like your new hair color, or new hair cut. Nothing has changed with my hair!!!

I have been taking the Juice Plus also for about 4 months. I really don't know if it is better than any other vits out there. It is costly and I have been considering changing to something else and put that money on the cost of joing the gym.

Congrats on all January Bandsters!!! I am doing well. Had 2 fills to date and do not need another. I am struggling as it is to eat 3oz at a meal. My 2nd fill really has been difficult. Cannot even gets Vitamins down some mornings. Last few days much better. Still struggling to learn to eat slow and chew, chew, chew. It is hard to teach an old dog a new trick. Usually drink a Slim Fast with added Protein for breakfast because I can't usually get anything else down. usually tuna or soup for lunch and then try to eat dinner. Usually very small amount. A total of 3 oz of everything is my limit, that is if I am lucky. I am walking daily about 2 1/2 miles. Will probably advance to the gym in the real near future. Just finding the additional time is my problem. Not enough hours in the day. Everyone keep up the good work!!!

Hello RedTullips3: You and I have almost the same surgery date. I too am seeing some loss of hair. Scarey. I go to doc tomorrow for another fill and will talk with him about it then. I try really hard to get about 60gr of protein daily. Some days it is extremely hard, but usually I make my goal.

I too have tight days. If I start off the day with problems, I had just as well stay on liquids all day because "it is one of those days".:confused2:

Congrats to all. Banded 1-11-08. Lost 72 lbs. I have had steady weight loss except for 2 weeks in the early stage. I keep waiting for it to end.

Hi Massa, I was self pay so I did not have to wait for approval. But, once I had all of my clearances my surgery was scheduled. It was only a couple of weeks before my date but only because of the Christmas holidays. I had my surgery 1-11-08. Susan has been really good and informative. She actually did my fill last time. (Dr. Rashid was present though). The office has been really good and friendly. I have nothing negative to say about my whole experience with them. Good luck in getting your approval.

Hello guys, I too am a born again believer and KNOW this is God's plan for my life. I am self pay and he has provided a way for me to have this done. Did any one out there see the movie "Facing the Giants"s? Well my weight loss is my giant and I am ready to face it.... I am scheduled for Jan 11th. Can't wait. Hello there. I am from Byron, Ga. and have a surgery date of Jan 11th. Getting a little anxious but sooo excited about my new life. I am self pay, but know it will be well worth it. I have a long way to go, need to loose about 200 lbs. I am using Dr. Duncan in Atlanta. Heard alot of good things. I have been well pleased to date with him and his staff.
