I just walked some until I was cleared to get in the pool at about 4 weeks post op.

Surgery on April 11
Welcome! It is hard to get in protein and fluids, at least initially, but you have got to do your very best to get it all in. Protein is critical for healing and weight loss. My surgeon's protein target for me is 100 grams. (80 grams for women with a starting BMI under 50 and 100 grams for everyone else). Pre-op prep, mental and physical
Weaned myself off of carbonation and caffeine. Practiced mindful eating: eating slowly, taking small bites, and chewing thoroughly. Shopped - got things like a good scale, small dishes and utensils (sushi and appetizer/salad plates, bowls, etc), food storage containers, etc Sampled different Protein supplements Read and learned as much as I could Journal Exercise Practice polite persistence and patience.

Post-op diet with real food?
The challenge immediately post-op is being able to get enough Protein when we can't consume a large volume. That is why protein supplements are critical early out. Also, it is why relying on vegetables for enough protein can be nearly impossible early out. When you are able to consume a large enough volume of food to reach your protein targets there is no reason to use protein supplements other than preference and/or convenience. For me, to get in my 100 grams of protein, during my clear and full liquid phases, protein supplements were critical. Getting in enough protein is critical for healing and weight loss.

I use the free version.

Just beginning my journey
Protein is critical for healing. See what you can do to increase your protein as soon as possible. According to my surgeon there is no physical reason someone couldn't consume three premier protein shakes the day after surgery. It isn't easy but it is doable.

How much do eat.
My Protein goal is 100 grams protein. So at one week, I was on full liquids and consuming 100 grams protein and pretty close to 64 oz Fluid.

Just beginning my journey
20 grams protein is extremely low. My protein target is 100 grams. What is your protein target? You need to be doing everything you can to get in all of your protein and fluids. Sip, sip, sip, and sip some more.

Quest
I like double chocolate chunk, Smore, and oatmeal chocolate chip the best.

Exercise plans
Yes, I am a good swimmer, but it doesn't matter. You can: take Water aerobics classes (everything from low-impact arthritis classes to Zumba, Insanity, et) Take swimming lessons Water walk/run Use water weights Or, just attempt to swim laps. I used to be a lap swimmer. When I started swimming again at my highest weight I started with water aerobics and worked my way back to lap swimming. For a while I did a lot of backstroke! Now, I swim laps for about an hour and do other things (water weights, water aerobics, water yoga, etc).

I THOUGHT I was sleeved...
Actually, that is a very common and smart practice for most surgeons.

Exercise plans
My exercise of choice is swimming. I have been in the pool since I was cleared. As to stalls, they are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

- Protein ISSUES
Some supplements you may want to try: ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates ProtiDiet hot chocolate WonderSlim puddings ProtiDiet tomato basil and creamy chicken Soups Carnation no sugar added Breakfast essentials Premier Protein Quest bars Power crunch bars- Protein ISSUES
I love the Luna bars but they are only 9g of protein and I can only eat half. Do you have any you recommend Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App My favorite are Quest bars. Power Crunch are pretty good, too.- Cheated on my preop liquid diet, will the dr cancel my surgery?
Stick with it the rest of the time. Don't continue to sabotage yourself. Will your surgeon cancel your surgery? That is up to your surgeon. My surgeon was very clear that if he opened me up and found my liver was not in good shape he would close me up and not complete the surgery. Ultimately, this is for your benefit so you can have the safest surgery possible. - Protein ISSUES
