My 600 Pound Life: 2016 Season
I just finished watching Randy's story from last night. He was a great example of someone who treated the weight loss like a competition and so skipped meals and didn't get in his Protein. Unfortunately, it landed him back in the hospital but fortunately I think he changed his approach. I know we don't see everything, but he was definitely someone who could benefit from a good therapist, Between the overweight family, his over-competitive dad, living at home, working in the family business, not to mention his daughter, I hope he is getting help dealing with his issues. He did seem to get it by the end of the episode. I look forward to seeing his follow up.

protein
You could but it would be a waste of protein and money. Our bodies only metabolize about 20-30 grams of protein per hour.

CPap Machine question
I am not free of the CPAP, but within a few weeks after surgery the pressure was too high so my sleep doctor switched me to an automatic machine that automatically adjusts the pressure.

9/2/15 - Can't Eat Enough
To me it is as easy to eat cottage cheese or Greek yogurt as to drink a Protein shake. I agree. What are you eating? Do you plan your meals and Snacks? Are you tracking your food? What is your protein target? By the way, congratulations on the weight loss. You look great!

Cool NSV ... I'm psyched!
I think you need to proudly wear that all over town!

Flying long haul seven weeks post op - any tips?
Thanks for replying I've already chosen a window seat as I hate aisle seats - I'm tall so something always gets knocked - my elbow, my foot, my knee - depending on how I'm sitting. I was savvy and booked premium economy so I have extra leg room and a bigger seat, though I sit fine in normal seats really. I wasn't sure if it was okay to be taking things like immodium, but if others are and it's fine then i'll get some from the airport - thanks for the heads up! It would be a good idea to talk with your surgeon about your travel plans. He or she might have some suggestions about what meds to take as well as thoughts on preventing blood clots. Definitely plan to get up and walk frequently. I also know that some people who travel long distances wear compression hose or similar. Stay hydrated, too. Planes can really dry you out. Water and tomato juice/V8 are good choices from drink service.

Regrets that got better
No regrets. Although like others have said, I wish I would have done it sooner, realistically I did it when I was ready and it happened when it was supposed to happen.

Communication Styles: Men vs. Women
I definitely believe communication is a skill and that for those who have difficulty communicating they can learn better skills, especially through practice.

Calories Don't Matter?
That is why instead of avoiding all carbs, I focus on avoiding starches and added sugars.

Yes, absolutely do a photo shoot. That would be so fun! If you get a chance check out the TLC show Love at First Swipe. If anything it would give you some ideas for improving your profile.

I am not at the beginning (I was sleeved April 20, 2015 by Dr. Weiss at Georgetown), but I am Kentucky so wanted to say "hey". Welcome aboard!

Three Months Post Op Success
Congratulations! I understand that not tracking seems to be working well for you, but how do you know whether or not you are getting enough Protein? Just curious. My surgeon suggests only 40-50 g of protein a day so it's really easy to get into that ballpark without obsessing over grams. A cup of yogurt, a handful of nuts, Collegen powder in a green smoothie or a cup of coffee and some cheese usually does the job. 40-50 grams of protein seems really low. Is that the protein target ongoing or was that just the target in the few days after surgery when it was harder to get in protein? This is first time I think I have ever seen a protein target under 60 grams, and most are closer to 80-100 grams. Mine is 100.

Communication Styles: Men vs. Women
This sounds great. We as a society certainly don't write enough letters anymore, but it can explain why so many people meet and fall in love on the Internet before they have even met each other in person.

Communication Styles: Men vs. Women
Here is a good article about differences in men am women's communication styles and the importance of asking questions (and listening to the answers I presume). http://qz.com/628724/the-gendered-way-weve-learned-to-ask-questions-is-terrible-for-both-men-and-women/?utm_source=atlfb

Calorie intake
This is a great question for your NUT. The number that drives everything is your Protein target,

Warning: I'm hungry and whining
This is definitely something you need to talk to your surgeon and NUT about so they can make sure you have a diet that is right for YOU.

Best Grocery Store Finds!
Thank you, my friend. I will check them out. What is your opinion of the crispy pork rinds? You are welcome. I don't eat pork rinds so have no opinion. I have never tried them and don't have a desire to.

Confused about quantity of food
It sounds like you might want to call your NUT for some clarification. I would guess the "no more than 2 oz." is based on solid food, not liquids.

The second most painful experience of my life..omg...this was bad
I am so sorry you experienced this but am glad you got a good diagnosis and treatment. I've never had one but my mom said hers were worse than childbirth. My brother-in-law gets them, too.
