    NSV: Keeneland

One of my favorite places in the whole world is Keeneland racecourse. I haven't been able to go to the races in years. It has been hard, especially since I moved to central Kentucky four years ago, to be so close and yet know I couldn't navigate the seats, walking, stairs, distance from bathrooms, etc. I was able to go to opening day on Friday! It was a beautiful day and I was able to fit in the reserved seats, had no trouble making it to the bathrooms and was able to walk a good bit (even though I used the handicap shuttle to get back to the car ---- I am not on that good of physical shape, yet). I am even planning to try to go back again during this meet. By the way, I had burgoo for lunch.

Burgoo is a Kentucky specialty. SORT of like Brunswick Stew. I'll see if I can find a recipe online.

Lord, I wish. Actually, the one I actually won had decent odds. The one I ALMOST won (by a photo finish nose) was against the odds-on favorite and set a track record. IF I had won I would have done very well. But, I count my $2 and $5 bet losses as my price for fun and admission. I am certainly not a high roller.

    Help! Avocado!

I agree. Avocado alone is rich. Adding mayo would have put it way over the top.

    Post op vitamins advise

I like the bariatric advantage calcium chews. Other than that I get all my other vitamins at CVS, drugstore.com, or other retailer.

    Clear liquids

Does it have Protein? How much sugar? It sounds like it wouldn't be a great choice to be. How are you doing at reaching your protein target? Try Isopure, ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates, Syntrax nectar, bone broth, or similar high protein clear options.

    Soma sale!

I bought my first Soma bras a couple of weekends ago. I love them. Hopefully I won't need new ones too soon. My mom wants to get some, though so I'll give her a heads up.

    Holiday help

I agree with everyone else, you should be able to adapt most of what you are already doing. One of the things I like when it gets colder is warm drinks. I love Harney & Sons hot cinnamon spice tea (they have it in decaf) and ProtiDiet hot chocolate. Instead of baking holiday Cookies you could make ornaments. I like the idea of making birdseed ornaments, too. I love going to candlelight Christmas Eve service and plan to find a performance of Handel's Messiah this year to attend (hopefully). I'd really like to find a song-a-long version.

Had to take out bandage today

What bandage? My incisions were glued and I was absolutely not supposed to remove the glue. I needed to wait until it fell off on its own.

    Best pureed soup "restaurant" option?

Depending on the restaurant you may be able to get them to blend your soup. You could also consider a broth-based soup and just eat the broth or get a creamed soup.

    Anyone from KY?

[q!uote name=Yellowcj" post="4285453" timestamp="1476030120] Do you mean hiccups post-op? Eating slowly, taking small bites, chewing thoroughly, waiting between bites, will help avoid hiccups. No, lol. I just meant hope there are no issues before the surgery date lol. Hiccups is something we use here as kind of a slang word lol. Sorry. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app Ha! I totally thought you meant hiccups literally! As to what you meant, the WLS process gives us a great opportunity to practice polite persistence, patience, and perseverance.

This sounds like a great question for your surgeon.

    Vitamins

This sounds like a good question for your surgeon or PCP. Do you get regular blood work? If not, you probably need a blood test to check your vitamin levels to see what you need.

Why Can't I Get Gastric Bypass?

What doctors are you referring to? Have you talked to a surgeon? If you are not a candidate for bypass have you considered the sleeve? I recommend you look for a bariatric center of excellence and attend one of their seminars. They can help you figure out 1) what your insurance will or won't cover and 2) whether you are a good candidate for surgery.
  25. My first week was Clear Liquids, so no. It was allowed during full liquids diluted in a shake.
