  1. Good for You! There are so many positive results from this surgery. I hope to get mine scheduled for November. Although my insurance doesn't pay for WLS, I am willing to pay for it myself to improve my health.

    Rant Genepro Protein Shills

I wholeheartedly agree! IMO the idea is for those of us who do not have vested interests in any products or medical entities to give our experiences or opinions. NOT for vendors. That is what the little pop-up ads are for. It has much more impact when it is someone who has actually used the product or doctor, surgeon or hospital. As you stated, you can tell when it's a "put up" job.
  7. Made my day! Did you offer him a toot? LOL

    Openness and Family

Me, I have told everyone. I am soooo excited at having a chance to have this surgery. My husband is so awesome for understanding why I need this and allowing me to do what I need to do. Even though he is retired and I am very close to retiring and I am totally self-pay. I have taken some ribbing at my office because I am going to Mexico, but it is all in good fun. The people I work with know that I am a level headed intelligent woman and would not take unreasonable chances with my life and health. Actually they have alleviated some of the nervousness I have felt. They tease me about being used for spare parts and such. I think when I go back to work, I will take a mock body part maybe a plastic medical liver or kidney and tell them my surgeon sent me home with extra parts!!!
  9. Lindalue... I will be 63 in November. Am hoping also to have my surgery in October or November. I am totally self-pay so at least I don't have to jump through all the hoops. Lets keep in touch and follow each other. You too Fezi! And Grammy. I get nerves sometimes, but mostly I am so excited and determined to make mine a success story like this one!

    65 and over

Hi LivingFree, Your post of July 5th was awesome! I am trying to put things together to have my WLS in November and am have been questioning whether or not I can do this at my age when I have never been able to do it before. I will be 63 in November. Your post switched on a light for me. I have been through many different diets and followed the instructions and did not cheat. Yep, I lost weight, but never enough and never was able to keep it off. I am beginning to see what posters mean when they say this is a tool. Kind of like when you buy a little kid a new pair of tennis shoes and he thinks he can run faster and jump higher! LOL So now in November, I will have my new tennis shoes and will be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. I know I will have hard work to do, both physical and mental, but my magic shoes will be there to help me! Thanks again for your insight and inspiration!
  13. Good to know, Kindle. You are such an inspiration. I look for all your posts as they are always so informative. Thanks.

    Spare Parts!

You know they are proud of you or they wouldn't be on you like that! I imagine they have watched your progress with great interest. You should really have a party for their support and caring if you haven't already!! LOL Two years and looking like a Rock Star! Such an inspiration and what an uplifting attitude!!
  16. I am in the planning stages of my surgery, have applied for my passport and have decided on a surgeon in whom I have great confidence. I have also decided to be up-front about my WLS with my family, supervisors and co-workers. It may not be the best idea for everyone, but for me it has been great. There is no doubt that laughter is the best medicine. Every day at least one of them comes up with a new "I know somebody" story. Everything from "uneducated surgeons with dirty gloves" to "stealing kidneys, livers and lungs." It's really getting to be the office joke. I think they are having more fun with this than I am! Actually talking about it so openly is helping me get through the nervousness. I was just wondering if anyone else is getting these stories?!?

    Appealing- contact your senator!

Baby Kitty...I feel your frustration. WLS is totally excluded on my State insurance policy. My insulin is costing them over $500. per month, Diabetes pills about $215. 2 BP meds about $275., Cholesterol meds $60-$80 per month, neuropathy meds $30. With an 85% success rate you'd think they could figure out they could have the surgery paid for in about 14 months and save a bundle over the rest of my lifetime. Oh well, Mexico, here I come.

    Drain Phobia

Just do exactly what your doctor says. It will only be for a few days. My mom used to tell me when I was worried about something like that ," Oh, honey, I've had worse than that in my eye." Now I am pretty positive she hasn't had a drain tube in her eye, but it always made me grin.
