@@GenaW828 - since you can eat the greek yogurt why not mix 1 scoop of Protein Powder with greek yogurt and a bit of fruit? Depending on your brand of greek yogurt and Protein powder that should give you at least 30gms of protein. That's half you daily requirement. Do that once in the morning and once in the evening and you've hit your protein goals. You can then drink your Water in between.

I agree that there are some things that aren't sunshine and roses. After 4mo I can finally drink plain Water. I still can't drink anything cold though. I never had a Protein amount and was told to not drink shakes or eat bars if I can avoid it. I found a bar I like and it comes in a couple of flavors so I keep those on hand when I don't have time to eat my "real" food. I still have head hunger. I try and make it stop by doing something else or drinking some of the never ending water. I don't know if or when I will be able to eat roast beef. It made me sick not once but twice and am smart enough to avoid it a third time. I have found that a lot of the food that I shouldn't eat I don't want to eat. bread, Pasta and Cereal were favorite foods but now I would rather be able to park at the far end of the parking lot and walk the distance than go back and have those foods and not be able to walk around the block. Plus without those foods I no longer have swelling in my legs and feet. I am a long way from my goal and I don't lose fast but I am slow and steady and lose at least 1lb every week. I can go up stairs and breathe when I get to the top, I can sit in a lawn chair and not spill out of it, no more cholesterol meds, no more cpap and no fibromyalgia pain that I can't tolerate on a daily basis. I would do the sleeve again a 100 times to feel this good

Thanks for the replies. The post was more of a rant than complaining. Again I stress I am thrilled I had the sleeve, I knew about some of what to expect, I knew my lifestyle choices would change. The main reason for the post was balance. I understand when you say you don't want to post the negative stuff, you just want the upbeat success stories and all that good stuff. All of that is great, it gives hope and promise however only posting the good stuff is not reality. People do not come here to get a "Disneyfied" version of WLS. I WANT to know all the shit people have to deal with. If every other post is a "I got out of surgery Tuesday, back to work Thurs and running a marathon by Sunday" .... It makes the vast majority feel like failures before they even begin. I want to urge people to post all your crap as well as the good stuff so this site can be more balanced than it currently is!

Funny how perception varies. I think I see more post complaining about complications and pain than stories where everything was easy.

I'm glad I read your post. I'm 8 days post op and I'm still choking down Clear Liquids. If I try anything full liquid, I experience "stacking" and it takes hours to finally make it down my sleeve. Your post encouraged me to get up and take a walk. I did and it almost felt like I didn't have surgery at all. I walked all over Walmart yesterday and I was miserable. Tried on bras and realized that my boobs are blaaaaa. I just had to go sit in automotive ( the only place there was a seat). I was really having a pity party yesterday. I feel better today. I feel thankful that my surgery went well, I'm losing weight daily, and my abdomen does not hurt near as bad as it did 8 days ago. Immediate Postop, I felt like I was going to die. I need to realize that I'm more alive than ever now with a great opportunity to make a real difference in my health, my appearance, and "the new me." Thanks for your post. Bit made me realize that I'm not alone.

I reemember 25 or so years ago when I went on Nutrisystem and got down to a 34 slim and how excited I was to show the family I could fit into a pair of jeans that said slim on them.
Looking forward to getting back to that point.

Ok, I've finally found the way for me to take my crushed meds without the bitter taste, in fact with no taste at all.
I crush my meds first, take a creamy greek yogurt, I stir my yogurt up and scrape off any on the bottom of the spoon on the side of the cup, I have a little left on top (not heeping over side of teaspoon), with another spoon I make a little well in that yogurt and pour the crushed meds in that, then cover with yogurt using the other spoon, then just gulp it like a yogurt capsule.
Goes down very easy and best of all no bitter taste.

brians34 got a reaction from shellyd88 in preop diet and that feeling in your lungs
If you're on that preop diet and you begin feeling what I describe as a little bit of "acid breath", kind of like your breath leaves a little of a "fuel" taste in you mouth or your lungs are feeling a little different. I thought I'd take a moment and tell you what that is just in case you didn't know.
When you go on a low carb diet, which is what we're on, your body will begin burning fats for energy. A by-product of the fat metabolism is ketones.
You will get a build up of ketones in your bloodstream and become a little acidic. These ketones are expelled in urine. If you're not drinking enough Water, and producing the producing the urine needed to get rid of these ketones, your lungs will begin to give off more of the acid which is giving that feeling in your lungs.
So to get rid of the "acid lung" feeling, drink more Water. This will get rid of those ketones and make you feel better.

brians34 got a reaction from BeagleLover in sleep apnea
When I had my sleep study, I had to do 2 of them. The first time I was scheduled, they "glued" electrodes all over my head, had a little piece taped under my nose, and some electrodes on my chest. No mask. This checked for the sleep apnea.
Once it was determined I had sleep apnea, I then had to do another sleep study with a mask to check for proper CPAP pressure. Again with all the electrodes.
I was told to sleep on my back to get the best results from the test.
Some sleep studies do a half and half where they check for the sleep apnea and if it's noticed, they put you on the mask halfway through. Depends on doctor and facility.
Doesn't hurt, even taking the electrodes off is painless. The "glue" they attach the electrodes with shampoos out very easily.
Just think of it as getting a (I was going to say free, but nothing's free nowadays) head massage.
There will be a camera in the room where they monitor you and if you have to get up to go to the restroom, you just contact them (may have a button to push or in my case there was an open intercom to the booth where I just had to say what I needed and they'd show up) so they can unplug the wires and plug you back in when you get back in bed. I remember I needed some air circulation and while laying in bed, I just said could I get the fan turned on, and this hand came through the door and turned the fan on.
I could get used to that treatment. :-)

brians34 got a reaction from Cody's mom in Preop meeting had to go to
So my wife and I had to go to 2 required meetings lastnight. One of the meetings was where the dietician talks about diet expectations prior to and after surgery. The other class (don't remember what the name of the class was) was discussion group for those that had been through surgery with questions and those that had not yet had surgery that might have questions or for motivation.
We only had 3 people at the meeting that had had the surgery (all had the bypass). One of the preop people asked if they didn't mind, would they tell us how long it was they had the surgery and how much weight they had lost.
One of the women said she was a little embarrased because she was 6 weeks post surgery and had only lost 40 pounds.
Everyone told her that was great.
In my head I'm thinking that if I could lose 40 pounds in 6 weeks, I wouldn't need to worry about the surgery. Most dieticians and doctors when they put you on a diet only want you to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week. At most on a normal diet 12 pounds in 6 weeks would have been the max.

I haven't had the surgery yet. I still have 2 more doctor visits for weight loss to go through, then it will be the waiting game for approval.
Hope your appeal goes through. Best of luck

Linda, I was reading through the internet about possibilities other than NSAIDs and saw Tumeric. This sounds like a wonderful herb and what I would try if I began feeling pain again.
I checked out the Vitamin section in Walmart yesterday and found them in capsule form there for $6.98 for 90 capsules. Suggested dose is 1 per day.
This sounds like it's a great alternative.
Looks like I will be looking more at herbal for the future.
From what I read on tumeric, says it can take up to a week for results to be felt. Of course that's what it took for the NSAIDs also.
    Worth a shot.

My wife and I are looking into WLS and both of us were more interested in the sleeve rather than RNY.
My wife's boss told her that she also wanted to do the sleeve procedure, but doctor said she'd do better with the RNY due to her diabetes.
My wife has Type 2 diabetes and I'm just wondering if anyone has had success with having their diabetes go into remission with the sleeve.
My wife's mom has diabetes mellitis.
