    Everyone is Against This

I feel for you. my hubs goes with me on majority of dr visits period simply bc I have soo many health issues and he was with me when 2 of my specialist sent me to the surgeon. both these dr's ironically talked to me about the sleeve would be best for me the same week and neither of them know each other. they each explained the risk and the benefits and with the health issues I have the weight was just going to continue to go up. I had been 30 some yrs yoyo dieting nothing was helping. I'd lose 30 to 40 end up gaining 50 to 60! up and down all thru my life. the benefits outweigh the risks! I refused to end up 300 pds and stuck on the recliner not having a life. the way it was I was approaching 275. I had had enuff! hashi's was destroying my life. type 2 and insulin resistant and the list goes on. I kept this private from extended family including my parents. my hubs and a few BFF's is all I told I was not going to hear every bodys negative opinions on something that I personally had to do for me and my health. has your spouse went to any appointments with you? I even took my hubs with me thru all the preop classes. he was involved as well. I hope you can work thru this and sometimes a person has to do whats best for them regardless of what other members think and want. keep us posted dear...I didn't read the comments I'm sure you'll get more support! hang in there! I am soo glad I went thru this for ME. I am 8 months postop and over 100 down and its amazing..best thing I ever did for myself!

    Sleeved today March 18

welcome to the other side and the first day of your new life!!!!!
  4. for me and the surgeon it was a no brainer ...with meds I take for autoimmune diseases and 2 of my specialist both suggested best for me would be the sleeve. and neither of these dr's had spoken to each other about me they dont even know each other but I seen them both in 1 wk an ironically they both referred me to surgeon for sleeve. theres no organ switching an less absortion problems. so I went with the sleeve surgeon backed me up he had been doing these ever since this procedure come about . eat slow, small bites, no drinking during eating first 4 months I did good to get in 3 or 4 bites a setting. now I am 8 months PO over 100 pds down an this has been the best thing I ever done for myself! the sleeve is less evasive . I do have a good friend who had bypass 8 yrs ago shes alot older then me an she did great as well. her health was a little differant then mine. do your research. it was easy on my part I trust my specialist they have always steered me in the right direction (my internist an endo that is)..best wishes! keep us posted..

High protein food at Dollar Tree

Its the General Dollar stores in our area with the nice fridge/freezer section. our Dollar Tree doesnt carry fridge items...cans yes at all of these stores. I also have to read labels and make sure I don't buy food items coming out of china. sorry folks I don't buy "foods" that are made or packaged from there for me or my animals. (I'm not saying you are or thats where they come from I'm just saying be careful) I do like going in to these stores as well ...thank you for your input!
  6. I dont want to be sarcastic or anything but from personal experiance..I hit the "3 week stall" an it lasted for me almost a month. I didn't change a thing. I didn't go up an I didn't go down. many also call this a "plataeu" and my surgeon an the staff and also in my preop classes from the nutritionist, psychologist/psychiatrist and the nurses who also taught the class yes they all called it the dreaded "stall" to our class. its baffling how all these dr's (surgeon's) teach differantly.. reminds me of all 4 differant rhumeys I have seen in 4 yrs they all had their own opinions and ways of treating. drove me nuts! haha (don't ask why I made the comment on the rhumey thing just reminded me what I seen with them as well)..
  7. first of all..AWSOME JOB!!!!! I have been using the MFP Im going to have to figure out how to do this! luv it! ty for sharing you go girl!!
  8. for me..In my preop classes we were instructed that the straw will cause "AIR" in the tummy an will cause less room for food AND it will cause bloating which will or can cause gas an belching. There was mention of its a possability it could stretch the tummy an this includes carbonation drinks . It appears that its not taught to everyone . I have tried to follow the no straw thing bc for me I prefer not to take the chance of anything irritating. at first it was hard breaking the habit of the straw an I would use it here an there unknowingly till I caught myself but I broke that habit along time ago. I'll never do carbonation again for sure and I don't care to...Im sure there will be all kinds of input on this subject..

    Dumping and sleeve

Im 8 months PO an no dumping here. I use a little raw sugar here an there and I still eat under 1/2 cup per meal but I am picky with what I consume. an if it is new item I only take a bite maybe 2 small to see how tummy reacts.

Can not do my surgery because my sugar is too high :(

I am not understanding why surgery is on hold bc of type 2 unless your numbers are really high. Thats the very reason why i was sent to have this done. I was insulin resistance an type 2..i hope things get rolling for you soon..

    Fruit problems?

I didnt try fruit till after 6 mon..I keep the green seedless grapes around an I have had "A" strawberry an that is the extent of my fruit trying. I was afraid of to much natural sugars , skins and fibers. the seedless grapes even with the little skin I have done well with.

    Worried it wont work

I didnt read thru all the comments...I had same thoughts! I had been on every diet known possible. This is NOT the magic bullet! you STILL have to put in the WORK of making the RIGHT choices. everyone is differant as far as the feeling of hungry. I still had the "feeling of hungry"afterwards. I also deal with GERD before an after. I was sleeved 8 months ago. its also hard to distinguish between head hunger (cravings an impulses to eat) an REAL hunger. eat protein first. I still make sure I eat protein first an my snack(s) are also protein. This is a wonderful tool. lifestyle change for life is essential to work. I had a weight problem since I was 18 then had 2 kids yoyo dieted married all together over 35 yrs Iv been through ALOT of situations an circumstances. I ate for every emotion there is. sugar addict. I had my doubts an I even said to myself "what the h*** am I doing to myself!" it was now or never. I was sick n tired of being trapped in my fat suit. I did it! My life has changed for the best I have a wonderful hubs (my 2nd marriage) an I have been given a second chance an I feel like my life at 51 is just the beginning! I am 8 months out it has been a roller coaster of emotions an what a journey! 0ver 100 pds down an its simply amazing!! best wishes! keep us posted IT WORKS!!
  16. Finally..i have a awful time looking up an navigating this app! I just seen what one comment i made was concerning salad (lettuce) an nutrition i want to clarify this. It didnt read the way i meant an it came across as bad choice. Thats not what i meant. Some love salads i used to eat them all the time i thought it was the diet thing to do..i know iceburg was the worst.i did like romaine but other filling lettuces i stopped all salads come tofind out it was causing my IBS an it was filling but for me i was always hungry. Plus by the time i piled everthing with it before i knew it the calories were way up there. Anyways sorry for the rambling. I no some greens have more nutritional value then others but to each their own. I do eat protein as main meal or snack. I hope you can find some foods that help ya stay fuller longer. I luv raw pecans, regular cottage cheese, i do eat organic turkey meats use as a roll up an put cream cheese with it. These forums are kinda hard to navigate.

    Eggs

I tried a soft scrambled at about 3 wks i took 1 or 2 baby bites an it was too heavy for me..i stayed with shakes an soups for several months. I couldnt handle heavy foods for months. I am 8 months an i still do well to get half down an im done.
  18. Ive done it all even stopped the mirilax my insides were getting to depend on it then script. I started adding raw pecans an i eat some everyday an its been what i needed all along. My first wk was awful. It took the 5th day an then first few months it was about every 3 4 days. After i hit 4 months it got more regular. Then would stop so i tried the pecans here n there an it works like a charm..hope you find something to work for ya..

    bad habit?

I have a similiar situation except mine is sjograns an other diseases that causes the esophagas muscles are very dry can be rigid or lax an so i have to take sips also to get meat down. Which it doesnt matter if i chew 50 x or 100 x a bite i still have to sip. Surgeon mentioned to me to do what i have to do. Bc my situation isnt going to improve. Im 8 months out an doing great. I eat slow small bites an i do well to get 4 or 5 down but i eat protein rich small meals thru out an so far so good.

    Sleeve or Bypass

Hi..what does your surgeon suggest would do you best? I'm sure you'll get alot of input..
  22. I was in first stall at the typical 3 wks with the loss body is adjusting an figuring out what they hay just happened! I had to put scale up an just get my protein an drink! I was another several wks i think i was 3 or 4 wk stall but i just "let it go"! Dont beat yourself trust your plan stick to it an it'll follow..
  23. Protein is my main course an at 8 months out i still only get about 4 or 5 bites..i stay away from salads period. No lettuce here. Protein first an since i dont eat much at all at one time i do snack or eat smaller about 2 or 3 hrs thruout day. It has worked for me an i do not use fat free or low fat. I use the real stuff. If your eating alot of salads its no substance .
