    No BM in two weeks?

TMI alert - I am 3 months postop. Earlier on I had real constipation issues like many surgery patients. It got pretty bad and I had to take milk of magnesia (full dose x 2), and Ducolax to get things going. I almost waited too long. Don't let this go. I am straightened out now and go every few days. Even if you aren't eating much your body still has some waste. I take Miralax every morning in my breakfast shake. Miralax keeps thing going better than breaking up a blockage. Hope this info helps. Good luck and talk to your dr.

    Laxatives

I have had similar experiences to all of the posts. I was traveling over the holidays and didn't have a BM for over a week. I was having left side discomfort, which I thought was from the constipipation as that is where your descending colin lies. It took using Ducolax and suppositories followed by a full dose of milk of mag the following morning. I still use a dose of Miralax each morning in my Protein smoothie and milk of mag about once a week or so. I also get some fruit and vegetables each day and make sure to get at least 64 oz of Water each day. It is easier to prevent than fix. As time goes on you can eat more foods with fiber and that should help.

    Constipation

After the Miralax and Ducolax, I finally took a full 4T of milk of magnesia. Finally got things moving. I am going to take a small dose of MoM every day for a couple nights and then go back to the Miralax daily. Don't ever want to go thru that again. Also I must be sure to drink my water even if circumstances are hard. We are visiting away from home for the holidays with the usual busy schedule of running around. Now carrying a water bottle everywhere. Thanks everyone for your help.

    Constipation

Sorry about the TMI nature of this post, but I am away from home and don't know what to do next. I am 7 weeks out and starting to eat a regular diet. I have not had a BM for over a week. I have been taking a capful of Miralax each morning for 4 days, and last night took two suppositories and two Ducolax. Nothing! When I was on liquids and puréed foods I would have a small, but soft BM every couple days. I was trying to decide whether to take some milk of magnesia or do an enema. Any ideas?

2 Wks Out Only Down 10 Lbs

All of you who responded have such wisdom. I Really needed to hear that. I have lost 8# In two weeks. That is a good loss for anyone. This is a new lifestyle and I am not In a race.
  6. I was glad to see the responses to Bella's post. I will be 2 wks out tomorrow and have stayed the same weight for 3 days. I try to drink 64 oz of fluids and 50-80 oz protein. While I know this is unrealistic --I wonder if this is really going to work. I have been walking a mile most days this week. I know I just need to keep following my doctor's program and I will see progress.

    Where are the November Sleevers?

My day is Nov 6th! I shopped for things for after and will start my liquid diet Monday. Excited and nervous. Congrats to all of the November sleeves.
  8. I was intrigued to see this topic, as I have been encountering this lately. I just received my surgery date of nov 6th. Several times I have had people say they are surprised that I am having WLS as they don't think I am "fat" enough. I am 5'4" and started at 230 or a BMI of 40. That is fat enough. I have been on so many diets over the last 40 years I can't even remember them all. I have lost >50# several times. I do not have lots of co-morbidities at this point and want to get healthier before I start down that road. My feet hurt, I am short of breath, have high BP, and can't participate in exercise at my former level. I agreed with another post that first you are too fat and then you aren't fat enough! Go figure.

    Any November Sleevers?

November 6th for me! Excited and apprehensive.
  10. I went for my psych eval today. Although I was nervous, it went very well. We visited about my life, family, habits, work etc. she said that I was a good candidate and one of the most prepared patients she had worked with. She said that there was very little she would offer in terms of further advice for me. I was doing all that I needed to do to be successful. That the surgery would give me the help that I needed to not regain, as long as I continued as I was doing now. I also had to take an MMPI, and two other written evals. Whew!! I can only say that I am relieved. One more hurtle down.
  11. I go tomorrow for my psych appointment. I see myself in your comments about being crazy for taking this path. I regularly question my decision and why I don't just diet and eat better, exercise more etc. then I remind myself that if I could have lost and maintained in that way I would have done it in the last gazillion attempts in my past. It is a big decision and I have made a lot of changes so far to make this a successful lifestyle, but that doesn't mean that you don't have apprehension.
