  1. Hey guys! How is everyone doing more than 1 month post op (almost 6 weeks actually!)? I'm down 31 lbs, which I am pretty pleased about. I haven't weighed myself in a week so hopefully it's more!

I was wondering what everyone's menus look like at this stage. My nutritionist cleared me for a normal diet so pretty much I am allowed to eat everything (except the obvious prohibitions). I still supplement with Protein Shakes most days, but on a normal day, I will have an egg for Breakfast with some ketchup, a few wheat crackers with a laughing cow wedge for snack, deli meat (chicken or ham) with avocado for lunch, and then whatever I can get a hold of for dinner (piece of meat, quiche without crust), etc.

How is everyone doing and what is everyone eating?

  2. Hi everyone,

I'm 1 month, 1 day post op and have been doing very well! I didn't really care for the pureed stage so now I'm slowly moving on to regular foods- organic deli meats, yogurts, laughing cow cheeses, etc. I still drink Protein Shakes pretty regularly.

The only issues I've had are with bowel movements (as in, I don't have any), a "stuck" feeling in my throat (upped my omeprazole and it went away), and just general tiredness. But I'm cleared to go to the gym now so hopefully that will help me out.

I hope this is the right place to post this- I want to keep a log of my progress. I can't wait to see how I do over the next couple of months!

In this pic, I'm 242 on the left (day before surgery) and 212 on the right. I will be 25 next Saturday! :)

  3. Thanks for all the responses!! Glad to know I'm not alone!! @@Jersrose43 did someone burp you post-surgery or pre-surgery?

While I have your attention, I have another question that seems too silly to start a new thread over- If I was sleeved on 10/14/14, how many "weeks" post op am I? I want to say I'll be 3 weeks post op tomorrow but technically it will only be the start of my 3rd week. Anyone know?

    Thanks again everyone!!

  4. @@old_rn no I didn't have a hernia repair- my doctor said my surgery was textbook and I've been doing really well other than the burping thing. I do walk a lot if it gets uncomfortable and it does help a bit, but I'm just wondering where the burp goes?! (Does that question make sense?)

@@MommyMeghan I'll see if I can find someone to burp me haha! There's probably someone on craigslist who would be interested LOL

  5. Hi everyone! I was sleeved on 10/14 and I have not burped since then even though I feel like I should be able to. I can get small little burps out but they feel forced- they're not like the burps I used to have before surgery.

I'm still mostly on liquids even though I'm cleared for pureed food (I'm so scared I'm going to get a leak) but I have had pureed beef, Greek yogurt, and some creamed Soups (not real cream). Will I start burping if I eat more pureed food?? It's getting kind of uncomfortable and I'm getting scared I will never burp again lol!!

Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!!

  6. I had mine Tuesday and I'm still in the hospital. I am completely fine (no nausea, pain, etc) but the doctor wasn't around today to sign his orders which is why I'm still here. In fact, I have not seen him once since the surgery, which is extremely disappointing. I want to know how everything went!

Anyway, I'm kind of sitting here like "what did I just do to myself?!" But I know that feeling will pass and I'm happy the surgery is over.

Hope everyone else is doing well!!!

  7. Hi Brian! I am 24 and getting the surgery on October 14th! I had the same exact fears as you so I did a lot of research. Partial gastrectomies have been performed for many decades prior to the introduction of the "sleeve gastrectomy" as a weight loss technique (also it began as the first part to gastric bypass I believe). Many people have to get part of their stomach removed due to ulcers, stomach cancer, etc.

This thread gave me solace: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/212148-this-is-why-i-trust-the-sleeve-long-story/?hl=%2Bgrandpa+%2Byears+%2Bold

I found some other great stories of people who had partial gastrectomies living into their 80s/90s, so it's not something I'm worried about anymore!

Maybe we can keep in touch and be surgery buddies!

    Best of luck :)

  8. I just got approved by Cigna! My Dr. opened my case last Weds (10/1) and submitted the paperwork that day. I guess an automatic letter was sent saying they needed more information (I received it on Saturday) but everything worked out and I was approved today! Very impressed by the turnaround time (3-4 business days).

Thanks to a cancellation, I will be sleeved next Tuesday, 10/14. Ahhhh!!!

  9. So I just got the call that I have been approved by Cigna for the sleeve!! My Dr.'s office submitted everything last Weds. and I heard today that I was approved. On Saturday I got a letter in the mail requesting more information which made me a little nervous, but it was just an automatic letter that was sent on the day my case was opened.

I was originally scheduled for 10/21 but they had a cancellation so I am now going to be sleeved on 10/14. I am so so nervous- I probably will not sleep for the next week! I have an irrational (or maybe rational) fear that I will have a heart attack while under anesthesia or something like that, but my age (24) and good health (for now) should work in my favor.

I have read on here that most people's "one regret" is that they didn't do this procedure sooner. Even though I am in good health now, I don't want future complications and I don't want to look back in 10 years and wish I had gotten it sooner.

Just wanted to share my good news with you all and I'll see you on the losers' bench! :) :)

  10. I've heard that if you're doing an inpatient procedure, Cigna's policy is that they have to make a decision within 5 business days. If you're doing outpatient, it is 30 days. That is just what i've read on this message board, so it could be incorrect! If I were you, I would be calling them every day to see what the status is!

PS Good luck! I feel like Cigna has gotten better at approving these surgeries, so I think you will be fine! I submit my stuff to Cigna on Thursday so fingers crossed for both of us! :)

  11. Hi everyone!

I was just wondering what you all thought of this- I am looking to have surgery with Dr. Jeffrey Strain in Englewood, NJ. He is covered under my insurance. I just recently discovered that he and his team of doctors have performed 500 bariatric surgeries to date. Is that too little? I just saw someone else post about how their doctor has done over 3,000 surgeries.

Is this normal? I'm getting close to the end of my 3 month diet and my anxiety is working in overdrive! I am so worried about the complications! I am in my early 20s so I know I'm not terribly at risk, but it's starting to really freak me out! Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
