    Reviews of protein powders?

What do you mean by protein side effects? I'm having my surgery on 12/4 and just curious. Thanks,
  2. I hope I'm not breaking any rules but I was wondering if we could have a place for those having the sleeve procedure to post. I was going to have the lap band but after attending the seminar and talking with the doctor I decided the sleeve would be better for me. Are there any sleeve preop or postop people out there that would like to talk? :help::help:

    Unsupportive friends

This is why I have chosen not to mention to anyone other than my spouse. It seems to me it would be rare to get a postive response - jealousy or genuine worry I don't need to hear either. I don't want to have to explain myself - addiction and all - I know the facts but it is hurtful to me to have to justify my well thought out decision. Several months after surgery I may decide to tell everyone, think it would be almost impossible to tell just one or two.

    Psych eval this afternoon!!!

For Dr. Curry there was a lot of paperwork I would guess 20 pages - where you would check from 1-5 agree or disagree, not too bad but lots of questions to answer. Then I spoke with the counselor/doctor. It was more like a conversation - why do you want to have the surgery, what do you hope for after the surgery things like that. All in all it was a pleasant experience as opposed to unpleasant.
  5. I just saw my band doctor for the first time and he is talking about gastric sleeve procedure - it sounds ideal for me. Does anyone know anything at all about it and also I wonder if there are any talk boards like this for the sleeve procedure. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks, Donna :help::help::help:

    Cincinnati Bandsters

I just saw Dr. Curry for the 1st time - he mentioned in the presentation about the gastric sleeve procedure and it sounds pretty good to me. Does anyone have any info about this procedure or know of any talk boards or sites I can visit. I am seriously considering going with this rather than the band. Any advice????PLEASE:help::help::help:
  7. Thanks for all the info - glad to hear about the bracelet. I learn more and more everyday from this site. What a blessing. Donna

    Hello from NewZealand!!

Hi DonHall1, I am also a self pay and looking at 14,900 - did you check on the status of Mexican hospital and doctor and if so - how did you do it. I am going to have to borrow some of this money so I really would like to keep the cost down. But in this part of the country (Ohio) people would absolutely flip to hear someone was going to Mexico to have surgery. Donna
  9. I can't do that because I haven't had my band yet but have been giving it a lot of thought and this is what I'm telling myself. I have a brother and he is naturally thin - has never had much of an appetite and he ate mainly what it sounds like we will be eating after the banding - so (I think) - we are helping ourselves to eat the way naturally thin people usually eat, we just needed a little help. Donna Donna
  10. How are you feeling? Having much pain. I don't have a date yet but am so anxious. Good luck. I'm happy for you. On a scale of 1-10 how much pain did you have? Donna

A place for bandsters in their 60's

One more post from me today - I just went through the entire thread and have a few questions or things to say. I will be 65 in April since I have to borrow a good portion of the money would it be wiser to wait until April. I think I am a 33 or 34 BMI - does Medicare have a certain BMI you must be? A few people mentioned going to Mexico for dental work and glasses - could someone give me some info about this? Have any of you gone to Mexico for the surgery? In my part of the country it is something no one ever even thinks about - Cincinnati Ohio but I did notice on other threads people saying they had gone to Mexico. And last but not least some info that may be helpful to arthritis sufferers. I have had hip replacement and what I consider severe pain in other parts of body since surgery. I was taking 2 aspirin every 4 hours and it was really bothering my stomach so I have tried a few things that really, really help and now only take the aspirin or rare occasions. I drink decaffinated green tea 2-3 times a day and put turmeric in the V8 juice I have in the morning - these have really helped. Donna It is just amazing the things I am learning at this site.

A place for bandsters in their 60's

I'm new to the site and glad to find this area. I am 64 and waiting to see doctor next Tuesday. My insurance won't pay any weight related issues so I am on my own. I plan to take some from savings and borrow the rest. I must say my doctors office has not been helpful with financing info - I was all excited about Care Credit (for medical procedures with 12 months no interest and low interest after that time) but unfortunately they do not take Care Credit. Now I am looking into joining a credit union for the lower interest rate. Very excited and also apprehensive about getting the procedure. My BMI is 33-34 (I believe this is correct) I have high blood pressure, asthma and a hip replacement so the weight definitely needs to come off and I can't do it no matter how hard I try. This site has been so helpful and I've only been visiting it for a few days. Well --"power to the oldies" and good luck to all. Donna Cincinnati BMI 33-34 Possible banding in November????:car:
  15. I would like some opinions and ideas about letting others know about the banding. So far the only person aware of my possible banding is my husband - he is supportive but very leery about the cost. I am wondering about others opinions of keeping it a secret at least until the band is in place. Any input would give me lots to consider - please reply if you have any thoughts on this. Donna

    Newly Banded in Cincy

I'm so glad to hear you haven't had any problems. I attended seminar last week and have appointment with lap band doc next Tuesday the 16th. Insurance does not cover so I am taking some from savings and borrowing some - it's so hard to justify this amount of money at this age but I've already had a hip replacement so I have to do something. Donna
  20. I agree - I'm 64 and want to make 80 but without the banding fear I won't. I attended seminar and have lap doc appointment 10/16 and hope to have surgery early November. My insurance doesn't cover any weight reduction fees so I'm on my own but will come up with the money somehow. Good luck to you.

    Newly Banded in Cincy

So glad to have someone from Synchrony Cincy banded in August - are you having any problems? I hope to be banded early November not sure which doctor I will have. I have become so down on myself mainly due to weight issues and think I have tried every diet and gimick out there. Can't wait to hear your progression and comments along the way. Donna
  22. I found this site today - very informative. Attended a seminar Wednesday evening, have appointment to see Lap Band doc on 10/16. Am very hopeful but after checking around the site I see new people talking about hunger. Does this eventually fade or lessen - it is beginning to concern me. Seminar said the hunger fades and the allowed food is satisfying - is this basically true? Thanks for any responce.
  23. I am so glad you posted this message, seeing surgeon on 10/16 and very, very nervous. I wanted to hear so badly that a new band was happy she had it done. Please keep posting.
