  1. When I know my family will be having cake, I make myself a mug cake. 1 scoop Protein powder (I've used banana, chocolate and blueberry), 1 scoop Carbquik (can also use a nut flour plus baking soda), an egg, a scoop of cottage cheese, ricotta, or greek yogurt, and add milk until it looks like batter. Microwave in a bowl or larg mug for 1-1.5 minutes. When I say scoop, it's the same scoop as the Protein Powder so all equal parts.
  2. Sorry to hear this happened, and glad that you kept seeking help. I hope it all improves for you from here.
  3. I lost 35lbs before surgery, and did not experience a very fast weight loss after. It would be half a lb for several weeks, then 5 and once, then nothing.... It was frustrating but the weight did come off. And I didn't lose hair or look so dramatically different so quickly that people thought I was ill. Follow your plan and try not to compare yourself too much, it will drive you nuts.

    Alcohol

Just another data point, I can tolerate beer. I'm a Guinness drinker, which has different carbonation, but as long as I don't try to drink too fast it has never given me a problem. I had my first at probably 6 months out and could only finish half. I have tried wine, it gives me acid belly. I'm sure health and weight wise I would be better off not drinking, but my husband and I enjoy a drink with friends or on the back porch in the summer and I want to keep that. Something that I have to watch out for is the increased desire to eat at night, and the dampening of my conscience that keeps me in line.

    Post Op Diarrhea

A good probiotic helps with this, both too much and too little.
  6. I had the same thing. I was getting air in with every sip and it killed. As the swelling went down and I learned to sip without swallowing air, it got better quickly. Less than a week, with big improvements every day.

Wow, glad you are on the mend.

    help with posture

I've started a core conditioning class at the Y. It has made a big difference in how I sit, comfort riding a bike, walking.... everything. My core muscles were not strong enough to hold my big body comfortably. One of the first things I noticed as the weight started to drop was my tailbone hurting. Sitting up straight stopped that pain, and it only happened as I built the muscle to sit properly.
  9. I used unjury unflavroed in soups and coffee. It does have a taste, almost like a powdered coffee creamer taste, so it works in things that are stronger. Just out of surgery, I added it to broths and about lived on it (couldn't stand sweets or cold after a few days).
  10. I hope they get the problem(s) resolved quickly, and totally agree to leave the evil scale alone. It's meaningless at this point.
  11. I was diagnosed with diabetes, my liver was fatty and blood pressure creeping up. I worked like crazy to lose 28lbs, and my numbers did not improve. I was trying to help my daughter get healthier, and I was getting sicker. I now feel like I am being a better example with my eating and activity.

What do YOUR nerves make you do?

Walk it off if you can. I did crochet myself crazy this winter. My husband said I needed an intervention. Hats, scarves and slippers (not enough concentration for anything bigger) but it kept my hands too busy to put food in my face so all is good. Do you have a tablet? Puzzle games were a good distraction for me too. I wish you well with your husband.

    WLS and IBS

I have had far less bowel issues since surgery. I have mixed IBS, and do still sometimes go between too frequent and too infrequent, but nowhere near as often. If I let myself get dehydrated, I can count on a few days constipation. Pushing Water, sometimes adding Fiber or colace, will fix that. I have not had dumping, but haven't really challenged that fully with sugar at least (I don't restrict fat).

    Drains?

I had a drain, it was annoying but think it saved me from a lot of hassle. You see, they could see and measure the output and this is what tipped them off that I had a small bleed. They went back in and all was well. I kind of suspect that whatever is your surgeon's best practice, that's what you will get. They're a bit stubborn like that. Tracy

    Confession

One think I would suggest is finding a new treat for infusion days. Sometimes it is less of a struggle to replace a habit than to just eliminate it. Either a non-food reward (manicure, new lipstick), or a reward that fits in your plan (I have Muscle Milk "Cookies and Cream" and make a milkshake as a treat).

    Abdominal Pain

My first thought is gallstones, but that should have showed up on a scan. I hope it mysteriously disappears and never comes back. Nice work, btw!

Weight Loss Attention -- how to handle

I completely understand. I think generally people trying to complement you. I floated the rumor at work that I was having hernia repair, and they had witnessed me on a restrictive diet for 10 months prior to surgery. A few people outside of work have really pushed on the why and what, and for those who are asking due to their own health, I've told them I'm working with the local hospital weight program, a dietitian and trainer. One friend was loudly pressing me in a bar for the exact number of pounds that I lost and I finally told her a metric shitload. Final answer. LOL! I would suggesting doing what you are, finding some answers that you are comfortable with and having them handy to use. Because you will get some attention, and it does take some getting used to. Good luck! Remember to take it easy and sip your water; you are still healing.
  19. I remember wanting to eat something that smelled good, but physical urge to eat at that point was excess stomach acid. Being careful about taking my acid inhibitor helped that a lot.
  20. I have no revision experience, but I do know anxiety. It doesn't even have to have a rational base, it just is. You have had health concerns and surgery, so there's rational basis for your vigilance. Is there a counselor attached to your surgeon's team? It may be worth exploring treatment for anxiety as separate from the physical stuff. Keep your team informed of anything new or worrisome. You're going to be ok.

    Call the Bariatrics police!

Mind you, this information is for people with whole functioning stomachs. Not fresh surgical lines, staples, and a stomach reduced to the point where a small ulcer could be major.: Put simply, alcohol irritates your digestive system. Drinking – even a little – makes your stomach produce more acid than usual, which can in turn cause gastritis (the inflammation of the stomach lining). This triggers tummy pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and, in heavy drinkers, even bleeding. On the less serious end of the scale, drinking can make it more difficult to digest food and absorb vital nutrients. That’s because alcohol reduces the amount of digestive enzymes which the pancreas produces to help us to break down the fats and carbohydrates we eat (1). unflavored powders question

Add me to the unjury list. I agree that it kind of has a vague coffee creamer-ish taste. I've added it to soups, pudding mixes and even coffee. It mixes very smooth.

    Doc says no vitamins?

My surgeon first said I didn't need any Vitamins, then the nutritionist said same as a bypass. Next appointment surgeon said vitamins. Since they don't do a lot of sleeves in their practice, I read up on the current recommendations by the American Bariatric Society. I take a chewable multi, calcium and every few days a b12 and D. I dropped the ironand reduced the D and B12 after my 3 month bloodword (that I ordered through PCP) said my numbers were good. I'm going to continue following current medical advice and my blood work results.

    november sleevers.

My loss has slowed down as well, but I have lost half of my excess weight so am feeling good. the weather has finally broken, i am able to get outside and do more excercise (and yard work). I have to get back into the habit of daily, scheduled, excercise. I slacked off in March due to family schedule and lousy weather, but it needs to go back on the agenda. T
  25. My nutritionist said children's gummies, my surgeon once gave me the same extensive list as bypass, and the next visit said nothing - just eat right. So I researched best practices (American Bariatric Society I think) and take 1 multi, 1 calcium a day, b12 1x per week, Probiotics if I feel constipated. I will adjust according to bloodwork results, and keep reading the literature.
