  1. I am so excited leave tomorrow for surgery Tuesday morning! You guys I feel like such a jerk Thursday when I had my consult with my surgeon I kept rambling on about all sorts of nonsense all of the legitimate questions I had I never asked... I am such an idiot! I guess I was so nervous and excited I couldn't even think. Anyone else had that problem? Do you think that I will have a chance to speak with him the morning of the procedure?

Don't feel bad about asking questions. We're having a major procedure completed. I was very nervous when I saw my surgeon last week and I knew I would be so I wrote down my questions the night before. When I saw him I asked him 3 of 6 questions lol. Lucky for me he covered all the areas I questioned. I hope you get the answers you need before your procedure. Wishing you the best!!!

  2. Hey Peekaboo, if your surgeon doesn't require you to stay overnight make sure you feel totally comfortable before leaving. Whether you're on a liquid or pureed diet you should be able to get your Protein down comfortably. And you should request to be evaluated after a couple of hours of intaking your diet.

You will be fine but you have to make sure you advocate for your needs. My doctor will be performing a series of test the day after my surgery and making sure I'm able to keep my liquid diet down without any trouble.

    Remember to Advocate For You!!!

  3. Hey Nikki, congratulations to you. I have the same emotions, I'm ready though. I'm nervous about how much my life is going to change. I'm trying to stay occupied by planning my 4 week liquid diet, pureed meals, and triple checking the things needed for aftercare. The only thing I'm focused on 24/7 is October 7th. I wish you best, we will do awesome!

  4. Thanks, it went great. Everything happened very quickly and the staff were just awesome at Atlantic Gastroenterology! At this point I'm waiting for insurance approval from BCBS NC. Once approved I'll meet with my surgeon and schedule procedure date :)! I'm very excited, all I think about is having surgery. Best wishes to all!

  5. Hey, I'm not on the post-op side yet but I like reading how people are doing on this side. I'm sorry you are not feeling well and I hope you are feeling better soon. I saw that you are thinking of taking Tylenol. My practice has informed me to avoid pills unless chewable after surgery. But I know medical advice differs for everyone. Did your surgeon give you a list of medications you should not take after surgery? If your fever persist you should consider seeking medical attention. There has to be a reason for the temperature if it continues.

  6. Hey, we've had a discussion before. I'm looking to have surgery in November or December. So I would definitely like us to continue communicating with each other and we're both NC coastal girls lol! I'm very excited as well. But I must admit that when I think about the wait it's a little frustrating. Like you I'm educating myself everyday. My surgical practice is awesome, I'm getting much information from them. I'm competing my psych endoscopy next month. Those are the only appointments I have besides the supervised diet appts of course.

This app is very informative and I enjoy having the support of individuals that are pre & post op. Please stay in touch & I'll do the same. I wish you the best on your journey!

  7. During my bariatric appt today I learned that the 6 month supervised diet may be no longer after July 1, 2014 for BCBS NC policy holders. The Bariatric Association has been arguing that the 6 month supervised diet requirement has shown no benefit for many individuals seeking insurance approval and it prolongs on-going medical issues of many.

As we all know some individuals benefit from having to wait 6 months before surgery (more education, planning, etc.). However some individuals are dangerously obese and want to start their journey to becoming healthier.

I did not want to wait, I've been educating myself over the past 3 months (everyday) because I'm ready for a change. I've always been overweight. I have 2 pages of past diets and I can't count how many times I've tried to starve myself so I wouldn't put calories in my body (hoping my body would burn the fat). I know some may say that was stupid, it was but I've always wanted to look healthier. I have a very nonexistent metabolism. I have to work out 7 days a week, 30 days a month to see results. Realistically I don't have the time with career, 3 children, husband and household.

I learned this morning that I only have to complete my endoscopy and psychological. Then I can see my surgeon and get scheduled for surgery!!

Anyway I didn't mean to get off topic but I'm really excited :)!! I will definitely keep you posted if i hear more regarding BSBC NC decision. Hope this helps someone.

  8. Heads up to BCBS NC policy holders. Insurance company and Biatric Association will meet to discuss changes for 6 month supervised diet requirement. There is a great possibility that as of July 1, 2014 BCBS NC will no longer require policy holders to complete 6 month supervised diet. The argument is that the supervised diet has no added benefits to individuals and the 6 months prolongs on-going medical issues associated with obesity.

There is suppose to be more information on this matter on BCBS website.
